Nintendo has yet to reveal the price point for the eagerly awaited The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for the Nintendo Switch 2, but PlayAsia seems to have revealed how much it will cost. The retailer has copies listed at $59.99 and you can pre-order the game now at the video game retailer. Nintendo has yet to announce pricing, but $60 sounds like a safe bet.
PlayAsia lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake at $60

If this is true im honestly surprsied it wasnt more expensive given what series its from.
If its true thats disappointing, knowing Nintendo this price means it just a remake with almost no new content Similar to Starfox situation.
Yea I’m pretty sure right since we know nothing about the game at this point since that price tag defintely indicates no new content like uh well I wouldn’t use star fox as an example but other remakes
I hate how people think when a game is a remake it should be cheap. It still requires a huge team (probably 100 or more) who need to be paid wages for years while working on this. It likely does have new stuff but even if it doesn’t, so what? You’re talking about a 27-year-old game which a lot of new gamers probably haven’t played. Not everyone played the original, so this is an entirely new game and experience to a lot of people. Even for those of us who played the original, it’ll be a fairly new experience again. Even the 3DS version was 15 years ago. The eShop versions have been a while I think and a lot of people likely passed on those (many gamers won’t play an older game especially if the graphics are outdated, which is just dumb). There’s still value to this game, and that’s how it’s priced. To release it cheaper will imply it’s a rushed, cheap game. You go to Disneyland and you’ll pay the same price each time even if there’s now new attractions. You go to McDonald’s and get the same thing, they don’t charge you less for the same burger you’ve eaten for years. New cars and phones cost as much as the previous year or more even if they didn’t add anything or at least anything too significant—aren’t those basically remakes every time and you’ve driven and used a phone for years and years and years but it still costs the same. ‘Cause it still costs them a lot to make these things and they still have value.
Even a port requires a team of programmers, managers, producers, leads, QA analysts, marketing, etc. to make it all happen. It doesn’t just magically work on whatever device they port it to. So there’s still a cost to do it, and that’s why ports sometimes are still the same price or higher than you’d prefer. If they’re still a great game, they’re still worth the price.
It’s disappointing but good for those that only played through the original or the 3DS remake once or twice. I would say definitely not worth it for those that have played it multiple times, the game would be far too easy if you already know your way around.
What’s disappointing with Star fox is that they screwed up the voice acting a bit.. other than that it’s a faithful, but too safe remake. It wouldn’t surprise me if we get some kind of prequel DLC or sequel for it.
I would be surprised if this is true. That would put this at the same price point as StarFox (assuming this is the physical price and the digital is $50), which is a much shorter and less popular game. The digital version of this would be even cheaper than the digital version of Link’s Awakening remake, which came out before a lot of the price increases we have seen since then.
Question for those disappointed that there will likely be little new content: How much new content would you need to see to NOT be disappointed? For example, would a few additional heart pieces, QOL additions, and maybe minor game modes at the periphery satisfy you (this would be similar to Link’s Awakening remake)? Or would you want something more substantial, like the Resident Evil 2 remake or even the FFVII remake? I ask because, from my perspective, there is not much precedent for really revolutionary Zelda remakes. We usually just get graphical overhalls, QOL stuff, Hero Mode, etc., so I’m not sure why more is expected from this one. Is it just because it has already been remade once (for 3DS)?
I’ll be satisfied by a more by the numbers remake but I was really hoping that it would be more substantial like RE2 or whatever. I think two reasons more is expected are:
1) Nintendo declined to show us almost anything of the game, indicating they might be hiding a surprise (like that the game is quite different to the original)
2) This appears to the be the traditional “big holiday title”. I know this big holiday title is more of a construct by fans than a rule Nintendo actually follow but we do generally expect Nintendo to have a marquee title at the back end of each year and a Nintendo 64 HD remaster feels like it’s a bit unambiguous to be that.
They also omitted HD from the title (unlike Wind Waker and Twilight Princess) which might imply a reboot but Link’s Awakening is a counter-example to that
OK, that’s reasonable. I agree that a remake of a game from the late 90s should not be positioned as the “big game” in the second year of a new console’s life cycle; that would be kind of sad. I’m less sold by point 1, but only because of how much Nintendo juiced up Mario Kart World before giving us the dedicated direct, and that was super disappointing. Therefore, I’m not really holding out hope for anything big just because they showed us so little up front.
Ooo, nice. That means I’ll be able to get it for $50 on Amazon
