Third Party Games Won’t Automatically Be On Wii U eShop On Release Day

We already know that first party Nintendo games will be available on the Wii U eShop at launch, but Nintendo has now clarified that it’s going to be up to third-party developers to get their games up on the eShop at launch.

“For third parties… One thing that we don’t do is try to force their hand. We don’t want to require them to do it. It’s really a decision that’s up to them, and so it comes down to what their interests are and how they want to offer it.”

      1. especially since they tend to cost the same.. i wouldn’t mind saving a couple bucks for buying a digital version but that’s probably not going to happen.. so retail it is

      1. gamecube games will be on the wii-u eshop but the physical gamecube games will not work on wii-u.but that just one reason why you should keep the wii

      1. Actually, my original Wii broke and had a problem playing any disc games. I sent it to Nintendo for them to fix, but they had to replace it. When I got the Wii it had all the data my old Wii had, even my virtual console purchases and the un-transferable Mario Kart Wii. But if you’re talking about getting the digital games back yourself without Nintendo then never mind.

        1. That’s weired. I went to Best Buy to digitally download NSMB2, but the guy said that it’s a bad idea because he said” If you buy this game on the eshop, and your 3ds breaks or stops working, thats 40 dollars down the drain”. So I ended up getting the physical copy. This happend to me before and I do not want it to happen again. Anyway I greatly prefer physical copies.

  1. So if Wii U game discs are going to be 25gb does that mean that’s how big the eshop games are going to take up?

If so I guess its not that big of a deal since they already confirmed that any external hardrives can serve as memory for the system.

    1. just because the disk are that size doesn’t mean the games will be

they prolly won’t be any bigger than regular PC games

  2. Makes a lot of sense. Just goes to show that Nintendo want their 3rd party support to release their games when their ready.

  3. Fair enough, i was actually hoping Rayman would be on there, seeing as it wont have a large download size, but i can get NSMBU or Nintendoland so thats okay. Im only going to download games that i probably wont play again, or at least not for a long while.

Hooefully you can download and still play a game -.- pisses me off on my ps3 when i have to basically sit and wait, especially with its bullshit download speeds, Borderlands 1 only took an hour if that, at 3.5GB. Borderlands 2 is 5.5GB and its been over 3 hours and its just hit 60%. What the fuck.

      1. Its not even the fact its slow, it just seems to do whatever the fuck it wants. Like i said, it an hour to download the original Borderlands, and now its take 3 hours to download the same amount of GB for the 2nd one. Fuckin PSN…

  4. First time I enter this site and non a single comments coming from a troll. This is a wonderful day. Now I just want to know when GameCube games will be available on Virtual Console.

    1. You came at a good time, but there aren’t many trolls. When there are we all bang on’em and they leave lol. Sometimes the things we say to them are worse they what they are saying about Nintendo.

        1. well they’ve got to earn money with their game.. the most expensive part about a game is not the box, the disk, or the distribution, it’s the development
30$ for a brand new AAA title.. that’s pretty much unheard of on any plattform

  5. Sounds fair enough. It’s all up to the third party publishers if they want to simultaneously release their titles in physical and/or digital purchase. I hope you’re paying close attention, Gabe Newell!!!!!!!

  7. there are two things I hate about digital download one it takes me ages to download as I have a bad internet connection second the price. take the new Mario game on 3ds £39.99 whent onto amazon got a physical copy for £30 includinging postage you may think its only £9.99 saving but you can’t just through money away like that if you can help it.
