Here’s Why Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate For Nintendo 3DS Doesn’t Have Online Play

Capcom has explained exactly why the Nintendo 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate doesn’t include online play. Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto revealed that the development team were having problems implementing a robust multiplayer experience on the Nintendo 3DS, so they decided that they shouldn’t release something that didn’t work well.

“To put it frankly, when we were developing the game we were looking into it but there were some places we were unsure about. We didn’t have the correct techniques to get it to work. We decided we probably shouldn’t release something that didn’t work well. We didn’t want to lower the quality of the game.”

    1. Though they worked on MH3G and 4 side by side, MH4 didn’t have something to be based on. It was made from the ground up as appose to being based on Tri.

    1. Monster hunter 4 has better graphics and full online , lol .
Its blatently because of a limited budget and porting schedule .

I really really love the 3ds to wiiu connectivity they have included , its absoloutly amazing to say the least .
Way round problem = buy a wiiu and a 3ds and both versions of the game !

  1. Thanks MNN !!! I understand , maybe they have pushed the graphics so hard on the 3ds with rich 3d that its hard to run online !!! Who knows , maybe capcom decided to invest a possibly limited budget into 3ds to wiiu conectivity instead of online !!! .

Not a problem though unles you will never buy a wiiu . i will buy monster hunter ultimate on both platforms

    1. ok people are being upright stupid its not that there pushing the graphics or are lazy the game MH 3G in japan has no online due to it being handheld and everyone plays it in japan
so no problem MH3U is a translation of MH3G so there not going to add online the HD version is online because they did that in japan anyways point being capcom us just translates the game nothing more however MH4 has online and is being delayed to improve the quality of the game because it looks rushed but sence they put online for the first time on a handheld game they put localization in mind when making MH4 due to needing online in the west to be a success.. so just leave them alone and let them do there job and look forward to MH4
      in 2 years

  2. I am not really sure why everyone is bitching about no online play for MH3U 3DS. None of the previous, portable MH titles have had built-in online play, the title didn’t have online for its Japanese launch, and both MH3U WiiU and MH4 will both have online play.

It’s been two years since we received a new MonHun title, and the success of MH3U 3DS plays a huge role in the franchise’s future. Online or not, I truly encourage all 3DS owners that enjoy action rpg titles to buy it; I truly doubt that you’ll be disappointed (though I’m certain Americans can find a way).

    1. You obviously know nothing. MHP3rd was a recent title with online capabilities, MHFU also had online capabilities, MH Frontier is an MMO version of the MH franchise. Just because you are limiting your spectrum to US/EU releases, doesn’t make your statement true.

      1. No, they didn’t have online, they had a program called adhoc party on ps3, that allowed you to use the local multiplayer mode (myseriously dubbed “online”) as though it were true online.
It still required the ps3 to be on, and in wireless range, and was very laggy, in no way true online.
In fact, MH3U is much more elegant a solution, and I applaude it.

  3. The way you’ve worded the article makes it sound like the problem was with the 3DS, when in reality they had a problem themselves…

Which they’ve obviously fixed in time for MH4.

  4. By the way, did any of the previous Monter hunter portable games support online? I thought that only home consoles versions of it had…. anyway, the funcionality of local play using a combination of WiiU and 3DS seems great

  5. i don’t like the thought of buying the same game twice, but being able to play my character in the home version of Monster Hunter at work might make it worth the money

    depends on when/if MH4 is getting released/localized

    1. “depends on when/if MH4 is getting released/localized”

Ha ha, It’s safe to say that Capcom are considering MH4 for the west. But It could easily get scrapped if they do not sell enough copies of 3G/3U.
I guess what I’m saying is. Those who decide to wait for 4 and not buy 3U. Are indeed contributing to the abortion of a western MH4. I’m not too fussed about MH4 (I will be interested when a MH4G/U is in the works though)

  6. It’s simple.
If you wanna play online, get the Wii U. (Because its just not happening on the 3DS)
If you don’t care about online, get either or both.

To be honest I don’t think I will use the online much (unless people start using mics and we dont have to use that dumbass speaker phone the Wii had), but I will be getting both copies.
I can work on my hunter at home on my 52″ HDTv with the option to play with others, and then take my game with me while I commute (I rack up over 10 hours a week, just travelling to work)

I haven’t had many nice things to say about Capcom lately. But I can see they are making an effort for us in the west, and I think the format in which they are releasing this game is reasonable and convenient for me personally.
