Resident Evil 2 Remake Could Be Possible With Fan Support

Resident Evil producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi says that Capcom isn’t currently working on a remake of the 1998 survival horror classic Resident Evil 2, but says if the demand is there from the fans then it’s something that Capcom may consider. Would you like to see a remake of Resident Evil 2, or would you rather they left it well alone?

“Just to lay all the cards on the table, that way there’s no rumor-mongering or things like that, no, we are not working on a Resident Evil 2 remake as of now. But if the fans really clamor for it; if there’s a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that’s something Capcom would take under consideration.”

  1. This is asked for every year in the RE Section of their forum….
Fan demand exists, and it is audible across many other forums and locales onliine.

This game is clearly in demand!

    1. Because Capcom is clearly known for listening to their fans. I mean Megaman Legends 3 was shut down because “it didn’t have much support from the fans”… except the 100,000 or so that joined that facebook group.

      1. I honestly find the megaman debate to be a wholly one sided argument, and one lacking the grounding to realise MML3 was never greenlit, and was at the time just a project they’d let fans in on to build hype.

Some games take the hit, it’s just a fact of life – there’s no guarantee that RE2 will get a remake, but the fans have been just as vocal as the MML3 guys for almost as long – neither are above each other.

  2. “But if the fans really clamor for it; if there’s a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that’s something Capcom would take under consideration.”

Sentences like this are getting really overused in recent-time

  3. NO! I just want to see Resident Evil 6 return to what makes the series great, Remakes shouldn’t exist unless the original can either be expanded upon, greatly improved, or was under-appreciated.

      1. Judging by the demo, at least the parts with Leon will be decent. The other two characters played like the game was a shooter…

      1. Also, Resident Evil 1 Remake was clearly better than the PS1 version – there’s no reason that such a remake for 2 wouldn’t turn out to be just as well made if they stick to the rules of thematic Horror rather than the current Hollywood blockbuster style.

      2. I heard the same thing. That’s why I’m more excited for ZombiU. I’m sick of Capcom trying to make Resident Evil like CoD.

Maybe it will make them money, and if so, good for them. I’m done with resident Evil if they insist on moving from survival horror.

        1. Don’t say that man you just made my pre order cry :( . I am going to finish it first before I make any comments . Why caln’t they make a game as staggeringly perfect as resi 4 ???

Resident evil revelations was like an awesome spiritual successor to 4 i thought :)

          1. All i know is when i played it…just..no. I couldnt even make it enjoyabke by kicking enemies in the head over and over, it just doesnt feel right, and i actually enjoyed Resident Evil 5, it was practically the same as 4 but with co-op.

        2. I still intend on buying it, but for those waiting for the next big Survival Horror, it’s time to let go and admit the truth – Resident Evil is no longer the franchise to support for it.

            1. You should definitely get The Last Story. The game is amazing. I haven’t beat it yet, but I’m almost close. The characters have so much personality..

    1. They only cancelled 2 megaman games, bud – and games get canned ALL of the time without being told to the general public – The ONLY reason the MML3 debacle was so high profile should really be obvious at this point…Fans were invited in before the project was even a go.

Other companies themselves have said that projects get cancelled before they ever get off the ground, and we’ve seen it happen many a time…so throwing *all* of the crap at capcom for something that’s literally a common occurence, albeit to a popular franchise under very unpopular circumstances, smacks of not understanding how the industry works at all.

YES, they’re to blame perhaps for the ill judment on cancellation, but the fans are the ones who are blowing it out of proportion – MML3 wasn’t officially ‘announced’ as a greenlit project, and was still susceptible to cancellation regardless of Inafunes status at the time.

I’m not subscribing to the ridiculous fan alarmist theories, because no facts and no information are really FULLY known or disclosed…it’s all speculative at best as to what happened overall.

      1. Overrated because she only been in one game properly. Needs to return >.< wouldnt mind playing as Jill again too.

Why cant Resident Evil just be like the Lost in Nightmares DLC :|

  4. The last great RE I played was 4, with Revelations on 3DS a close second.
After that, I sort of gave up on the series.
I’m now looking forward to Zombie U instead. They seem to have gotten the formula right with that game, from all the preview trailers so far.

  6. A lot of things COULD be possible with fan support… quotes like this are pretty much saying to fans, “If you want this, make noise”. I’d rather not jump through a bunch of hoops. If a studio wants to do it, they will do it. Fan support is important, but if it really did any good in the end ‘Firefly’ would be back on television or ‘Serenity’ would have gotten the sequel it richly deserved.

  7. Hmm….I know where this is going.
    -The fans demand the game.
    -Capcom decides to make it.
-Half way through they cancel it and then BLAMES THE FANS.

  8. It would be great if it would come out for the Wii U, and put 0 and Remake on Wii U as one of those HD “remakes” so people who want it can get it.

  9. Yes, please, do the original RE fans a favour and remake it damn fine game and if, like a friend of mine said, its as good as the RE remake than were defiantly in for a good treat
