Wii U First Console To Launch With “Adults Only” Game In Japan

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge is a Wii U launch title. Because of its excessive violence and gore, when the game launches in Japan, it will make the Wii U the first console that launches with a game that has a CERO Z rating, which is the “adults only” rating in the country. CERO Z rated games are meant to be played by adults – ages 18 and up – and adults only.

Thanks, Scott.

      1. Welcome to the internet, you must be new here. Seriously, you’ve never seen some of the tentacle rape Ps2 games those perverted little fuckers came out with?

    1. Rated AO for Adults Only…? Nintendo releasing its FIRST rated AO title on the Wii U. I’M BUYING IT!!!!!!

      1. It’s only rated AO (or CERO Z) in Japan. I’m sure it will be rated M in North America and the equivalent of M in Europe. You have to take cultural differences into account. Hell, I just looked up the ratings of different regions and even though Infamous got a Teen rating in North America, it got a CERO Z rating in Japan.

  1. Okay all the haters and non believers of the Wii U, go ahead and try to use that “Nintendo only caters to children on their systems” not gonna work here! Hahaha!

  2. “…which is the “ADULTS ONLY” rating in the country. CERO Z is meant to be played by ADULTS – ages 18 and up – and ADULTS ONLY.”

So… that means that kids can play, right? lol.

      1. Yeah, it’s kinda sad how clueless parents can be with stuff like this. They’d probably freak if they caught little Timmy watching True Blood or Game of Thrones or something like that with plenty of nudity and violence, but they don’t give a damn when it’s in a game.

  3. Maybe if they changed the name of the rating from M to AO in North America parents wouldn’t always be okay with buying it for their kids… then again that’s assuming those asinine parents have brain cells. For mature audiences? More like immature (talking about our rating system, not Ninja Gaiden).

    1. And then the parents try to blame the companies who made the Mature games for exposing their little snowflakes to something the parents bought for them in the first place XD

    2. There is an AO rating here in NA. Games rarely go to that level anymore though, content-wise, if they want to be sold in stores or on large gaming networks.

It’s kind of like NC-17 and R ratings for films. Few go the NC-17 route because they generally want to be shown in theaters across the nation, but the rating is still exists.

  4. The age and maturity of people playing this is the least important thing that this article brings to light; what’s more important, is that this reinforces the people who have been saying for ages that this version of NGIII will finally bring back the things that drew fans to it in the first place.
It will be the definitive version.
The one that fans WANTED but never got on other systems.
The one with all of the blood, gore, and hopefully difficulty, that makes the series fun.
The fact that this is happening on the WII U, that it is coming on the console of a company that used to be known for its stricter views on ratings for its games, is a very significant indicator that Nintendo has finally loosened up and is more open than ever to third-party developers.

This bodes well for Nintendo’s future, not just for fans of this particular game.

    1. I have incredible doubts the Wii U and the newer versions coming out will make the game any better. NG from the last gen is the only great modern NG game.

    2. It wasn’t the lack of blood and gore that made Ninja Gaiden 3 get so much backlash – it was the fact that they stripped everything else. The blood and gore was definitely there.

Yet, they stripped the weapons, platforming, puzzles, and type of action that NG fans were so familiar with. It wasn’t a bad action game – it just wasn’t a good Ninja Gaiden game.

      1. a better game? you already know that it’s going to be bad or what? Oo
if some of the older NG games are anything to go by this one could turn out to be pretty good

  5. Goodness. Forget about the Nintendo 3DS. That thing would just collect dust in my closet anyways.

    Wii U, Welcome Home! :D
*reserves a space for the Wii U next to his TV*
*starts designing Wii U memorabilia for his gaming space*
*smells his preorder receipt* Mmmm…smells like bananas…though those may have been left there from Iwata-san… o.o
*creates a wishlist of games he wants from launch day and beyond for the Wii U*
*buys a new Samsung 32″ 1080p LED HDTV*
    *admires*
    *stares*
    *breathes*
    *waits*

      1. It’s going in my bedroom, sadly. Only have room for my 32″ inch at the moment (at least when it is on the desk). Though I could mount the TV, it would be better gameplay-wise for me to have it somewhere that I don’t need to be looking up to see the action take place on the screen (I don’t want my neck to ache while I play for long sessions). FORGIVE MEH! 3:

Once I can get it out to my living room, it’s gonna get a nice 50-60″, you bet. ;3

        1. Thats wierd , I just bought a 32” LG 1080p in preperation for wiiu last week , I have a 42” in living room . But I want to be able to transport wiiu from living room to bedroom . But I am slowly turning my bedroom into the Wiiultimate man cave of gaming glory …

            1. I saw the prices of those last year, and they were CHEAP!

Too bad the Best Buy near where I live was COMPLTELY sold out of them. If I can’t get a Samsung, I always go with LG when it comes to TVs. Both offfer a similar quality with viewing experience, though Samsung is albeit a LOT more pricey than the LG models.

            2. Sweet dude !!! LG are Amazing for tv’s!!! Here in England , I always notice sony and samsung are offering the same TV but it cost’s £100 extra for exactly the same thing!!

              32” LG 1080 + wiiu FTW!!!! . Such a sleek TV ^_^

      1. Epic! lol XD

My NES/SNES/N64 games are basically unplayable on all of my HDTVs in the house. They look much better when played on Virtual Console, but VC only has HALF the library of games I have for those consoles. The N64 lineup of games being the weakest on VC.

Let’s hope we get Turok (with fixed Rage Wars…not the black cartridge of death), Extreme-G, Star Fox (SNES), and some Nintendo 64 classics like Donkey Kong 64 soon. If Nintendo could ever buy out all of Rare’s old gems, I would love to also see Killer Instinct (and Gold) make its way, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye…well…I think I made my point. XD

        1. THIS!!!!! all those games!!!! my bedroom is turning into the ultimate gaming mancave now , I want my bed next to my wiiu becuase I’m gunna play the shit out of it !!!

Its funny how bad the wii looks on a HDTV unless of course you use a composite cable and set it to 480p which makes it nice and colorful and a little less ugly!

            1. Are you playing from a good distance away from the TV?

I play about 4-5 feet away, so the display looks horrid on fast-moving action games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Sonic (all Sonics), Mario Kart Wii, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess just looks really darn messy.

Skyward Sword, admittedly, looks a TON better on the HD-widescreen display though (lack of anti-aliasing was still a pain in the butt though when trying to admire the beautiful artwork). I had to do a lot of switching with the Wii from living room TV (HDTV) to my old CRT I had in my bedroom throughout the Wii’s generation. Very annoying to do so, but I’m glad I won’t be doing so with my Wii U any longer!

Heck, my office (for school and work) is on the same desk as my Wii U. Can you imagine waking up, turning on the Wii U and having Miiverse display while working from the comfort of your own bedroom in the morning? It’s absolute bliss just thinking about it. :3

              1. I play about the same distance as you. Guess I’m just lucky, I use the cable that came in the box and it looks pretty much the same as my old TV.

            2. So do I bro , and yes !! some games like mario galaxy’s and skyward sword have graphics that make some 360 games look like over rated shit . no doubt .

But the wii seems to need the right TV to peform the best . Right now I have it set to 480p on my LG 1080p and if you sit to close it looks bad . But the color is bright , vivid and amazing.
It seems to work better on my old 720p bush TV for some reason , don’t know why that is :S.

I have this thing now , where I have to sit twice as far away from TV to play wii than I do when playing 360 or ps3 . It makes it look better , lol .

Not knocking the wii , one of my favorite consoles of all time . But for us Nintendo fans , the wiiu is a god send with its True HD resoloutions glory!

            3. I’m using RBG cables and the 480p setting on my Wii, and the picture just looks hazy when I put Skyward Sword in… Link has fucking X X over his eyes. Looked damn sweet in my SD 32inch, but on my HD… Not so great.

OMG, LG HDTV are amazing for the money.

I’ve broke in the TV, and It’s ready for my WiiU!

          1. Haha! And, yes, I absolutely LOVED the N64 era! It had all of my childhood favorites.

Take to note the “little less ugly” part and magnify that by 2x if you used to play it on a 720p and upgrade to the 1080p (nonetheless, LED instead of LCD). It makes the Wii look THAT much worse than it already was on a standard HDTV. XD

        2. what i can recommend is buying a controller for PC (there even are SNES controllers with USB connector for those who want it real oldschool) and play the SNES title on PC with an emulator… some of these emulators have really great picture smootheners.. looks like an all new game and even looks good on full HD :)

      1. I’m not “stuck” on one gaming platform.

I don’t have the time to play games like I used to, so it’s illogical for me to buy a Nintendo 3DS when I know I won’t devote the time into it as I would for the Wii U. Not only that, but the Wii U is also getting a TON of Nintendo 3DS games too.

You can try as you may to prove me wrong, but the fact of the matter is that the Wii U has the most diverse and broad lineup of games than any other Nintendo console/handheld this far. It is also very reasonably priced compared to the Nintendo 3DS’ launch (which bombed in every possible way).

I love the Wii U and everything about it. However, my lifestyle only permits me to have time to play actual home consoles from Nintendo. I don’t see a reason for me to purchase the Nintendo 3DS AGAIN when I already expressed my disgust with having absolutely nothing working from launch. It was an irrefutable mistake on Nintendo’s part and Iwata-San admitted it was wrong for them to do to their loyal fan base.

To me, if something does not hold my interest from launch, then it’s hard for me to seriously devote time towards it.

Another issue I have is that the Wii U IS getting many games also available on the Nintendo 3DS that I’m interested in: Mighty Switch Force, the (albeit) 4th dosing of Cave Story, Shantae, Mutant Mudds Deluxe, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Super Smash Bros. Universe, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and even Kid Icarus: Uprising, supposedly.

There are only a few 3DS exclusives that make me lean towards buying the system, but I ultimately feel like I would gather far more dust in my closet than it would playtime.

The Wii U suits my lifestyle in every possible way because all of my design work is done on my iMac which just so happens to be right next to my TV. The Nintendo 3DS does the exact opposite and places a handicap on me to take it around throughout my daily life for StreetPass and Play Coins and bring myself to play on it.

          1. Uhh,.. what now? Did you really just read what I typed up there? In what way am I a hypocrite to Nintendo for only showing interest in their home consoles since the day I could pick-up a controller and play games at the age of 3-years-old on Star Fox for the SNES? I would think that what I typed would display how loyal I am as a Nintendo fan to the company. I don’t even play games on other devices like my iMac or iPhone because of the fact that it feels like I would be dishonest to my parent company. Let me get something straight here, buddy…

Throughout all of my life, I have ONLY played games on Nintendo systems and on Nintendo’s arcade machines (such as the original Donkey Kong). I was there waiting first in line launch day for each console after the SNES–N64, GC, Wii, and very much soon to be, Wii U. I have over 200 games in my library for both the NES and SNES, over 90 games for N64, exactly 73 games on the GameCube, and (counting Wii VC and WiiWare) 359 Wii games. You are in NO position to call me a hypocrite to the very company I have adored since birth.

In fact, the SNES came out two days shy of my birthday, so I was practically born with the SNES controller in my hands.

How am I being a hypocrite for stating my own personal opinion towards something I don’t like playing on, especially when I display my fiery passion and love for all of Nintendo’s consoles?

            Let me explain…

Throughout all of the years that I have lived on this Earth, I have never been interested in Nintendo’s portables NEARLY as much as their home consoles. I absolutely fall head over heels for each of Nintendo’s main consoles. The NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, and Wii were generation-defining moments for me and my life and have each paved their way into revolutionizing how we play games in their own separate regards, just as the Wii U will. Nintendo is, and will always be, the center of my entertainment. You can always bet that my second life will be on a Nintendo home console.

I just simply can’t get as immersed into the gaming experience on handheld as much I do for home consoles. My eyes strain looking at the small screens, my fingers get cramped, and I find myself unable to fully immerse myself in the games nearly as much I would be with a home console from Nintendo. LIVE WITH IT. There’s a ton of other people out there in the world that are much like myself and don’t play on handhelds. Just because we don’t doesn’t make us any less of a Nintendo fan as the next guy.

I don’t play ANY games on PC, smartphones, tablets, handhelds, or consoles other than Nintendo. I have ONLY played games on Nintendo consoles and have been this way since I was a child. My brother even tried getting me to play Sonic Adventure on the Sega Dreamcast when I was 6-years-old, and I cried when he tried to force me to play it because I wanted to play Super Mairo 64. THAT is how much I love Nintendo uncontrollably.

I can’t imagine how my life would ever be without Nintendo, so don’t you DARE come and call me out as being a hypocrite for not playing the 3DS when I already mentioned why I don’t want to and why I would PREFER to play on the Wii U instead. That’s my point there. It’s called having a preference buddy. In fact, by not showing my interest in the Nintendo 3DS, I’m displaying to Nintendo and their figures that my preference has, and will always be, more towards their home consoles than their portable systems. It’s all a matter of preference. You may prefer playing on both (and, heck, you may even have the time to do so which is great for you), but I DON’T share in your ideals. I’m sure I have a completely different lifestyle to you (unless you are somehow a carbon copy of myself) that can fit in both play experiences, which is great for you. I, on the other hand, don’t have the time to do so and even if I did, my preferences would not work in my favor to purchase one of Nintendo’s portables. That would just mean that I would play on Nintendo’s home consoles even more than I already do.

            1. I’m sorry. I was actually around 9-11-years-old when my brother did that. Not 6.

I was 6-years-old when the N64 came out, which is why I got the age mixed up.

    1. how do you know it’s awful? just curious

and may i point you to the earlier NG games some of which received stellar reviews? tecmo are capable of producing high quality games

  6. Wow, this is really surprising! I do recall however reading Nintendo Power years back, and an interviewer asked Shigeru Miyamoto if he’d ever want a mature rated game for the Nintendo consoles, and he said he wouldn’t. So I’m a little shocked that this made it through. Do you think it’s a good idea to do something like this for a Nintendo console? A gaming console that’s usually targeted at children and teenagers? It’s a good subject to discuss.

    1. oh lord for the life of me nintendo is not a kids system were do people get this shit frum oh i forgot haft of u just start playing games when the wii came out

    1. I’ve posted this before, it’s disgusting. As someone in the comments section of that article stated: EA doesn’t stand for Electronic Arts anymore, it stands for Evil Assholes.

  7. Pingback: Nintenderos.com – Wii U, 3DS, Wii, DS, Videojuegos y Consolas Nintendo | Wii U será la primera consola con un juego de lanzamiento “solo para adultos”

  8. Actually; there are two CERO Z titles launching with Wii U: Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge and Assassin’s Creed 3. They are also launching ZombiU (which I thought would also be CERO Z as well), and Mass Effect 3 as CERO D titles (the second harshest rating to CERO Z.). Monster Hunter 3G, Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be CERO C. We might have three CERO Z titles for the system by the end of the year once we know what Call of Duty Black Ops 2 CERO rating is.

I’m still not convinced that this is the first video game console in Japan to launch with a CERO Z title (although it’s believable to have two of them); I’m certain PS3 and XBOX 360 must have had one CERO Z title at their launches; but who knows?

For additional reference; Nintendo DS had one title: Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Stories and Wii had one as well: Madworld. So Wii U has more CERO Z titles already.

    1. Okay; I have safely conclude that Wii U is the first console at have a CERO Z title at launch:

Playstation 3 highest was Resistance: Fall of Man at CERO C. Genji 3 was CERO B or C.
XBOX 360 has Condemned at CERO D and Perfect Dark Zero at CERO B.
Wii has Red Steel and Nerconesia at CERO C.
3DS has no titles harsher than CERO B.
Nintendo DS does have Turama Center at CERO 15 (equal to C).

  9. Just to follow up on the up-date of this mettar on your website and want to let you know just how much I appreciated the time you took to generate this useful post. Within the post, you really spoke of how to actually handle this thing with all convenience. It would be my own pleasure to collect some more thoughts from your blog and come as much as offer others what I learned from you. Thank you for your usual terrific effort.

  11. May I just say what a relief to uncover someone that
truly understands what they are talking about over the internet.
You definitely understand how to bring an issue to light and make it important.
A lot more people must look at this and understand this side of
the story. I was surprised you’re not more popular because you certainly possess the gift.
