GameStop President Tony Bartel says that despite poor sales, people shouldn’t count the Wii U out of the console race. Bartel reiterated that there’s a host of high-profile first party games coming to the system this holiday season and beyond. Games such as Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 and a new Super Smash Bros, should all revitalise interest in the ailing console. Bartel says that he expects to see a lot of interest in the platform later this year.

The original article mentions that the WiiU is more for “dedicated fans” so it may not reach the widespread appeal of the Wii. I think that’s good enough as long as we support the games we love.

As much as I respect your opinion but we ( Nintendo fans ) really need to change the way we are thinking , we can’t just stick to Nintendo ips only , we need third party support , we need Nintendo to make better games , we need them to make new games , when you put some pressure on them they will actually try to please us with whatever they can , I mean really compare GameCube games to the ones from the wii , you will find the gamecube ones ard better , with the exception of Mario galaxy , they were under pressure in the gamecube era and we got those fantastic games , another example is Activision , they keep bringing the same shitty game over and over and they won’t make it any better unless they feel that the gamers don’t want it anymore , the point is the more pressure you put on Nintendo the better games you will get ,
I always get another platforms to go with my Nintendo console… And I personally don’t mind that. It’s the NIntendo console that provides most of the different and unique experiences.
I agree it would be better if Nintendo had all the other games I crave like your GTA , Borderlands , Racing sims etc etc. But what I look for in My Nintendo platforms is completely different experiences like Pikmin like Animal Crossing like Pokemon like Zelda etc…

No, Nintendo will lose. Each GB cost almost $1 (well last year i think it was, now it’s probably cheaper). But that is still a lot, maybe about $70-80 for 120GB flash.

Nah, Starting August with Pikmin 3 it’ll pick up a bit, then September will be W101, and then Windwaker in October, then DKC TF and Watch Dogs and AC4 and COD Ghosts in November, then Super Mario 3D World in December. Thing will pick up starting in 2 months with Pikmin 3.

All you have to do is look at the sales of the 3DS and its software worldwide. It’s evident that people want and love Nintendo games. The UK charts has about 8 3DS games in top 20 lol. It’s not a coincedence , those games sell. And when those types of games come to Wiiu (which they haven’t yet except a small handfull like MH3U , Lego City , NSMBU..) the Wiiu will sell just like the 3DS is now. Maybe not as big but it will.
Look at the UK charts , Games like Super Mario 3D world , Mario Kart 8 , Mario and Sonic , Smash bros are all going to be chart toppers. Why wouldn’t they be ?

My only problems with Nintendo are the lack of ads (which will probably be dealt with in the Fall) and the absence of Metroid – That would have really showed off the Gamepad.
Even with these glaring cons, Nintendo has more pros than the competition. Unless you really looove shooters and 6 hour games that cost $10 an hour, I think you won’t be disappointed with Wii U.

If the battery dies in any system, it shuts off. That’s why every console has something that will tell you how much battery is left.

Wii U has mostly 2010 tech in it with some 2011 bits. It was still in prototype design in 2008.

Many tablets these days have sleep mode. My Acer Tabler and smart phone has that feature. Hell even the 3DS has it. Why not the Wii U? I dont need it on when watching Netflix.

It’s pretty much guaranteed the Wii U will start selling well. I’m firmly of the belief that most people do still assume it’s just a Wii with Nintendo’s version of the U draw tablet for Wii packaged in.. just one more reason why the name is horrible and confusing for those consumers.
Say what you will about the differences between handhelds and home consoles, but they simply won’t sell well without games, no matter how amazing the technology is. The Vita is proof of that. Both the DS and 3DS had very slow starts. One system had a make over, and a game that blew up the charts, and the other had a price cut and also a game that blew up the charts, and bliss followed each console after that. The Wii U doesn’t need a design make over, or even a price cut necessarily, but it needs that spark of a game… if it doesn’t happen before MK8/SSB4, it will be one of those games for sure, especially if the online aspect works well.
Bayonetta 2/Watch Dogs/Assassin’s Creed 4/Wonderful 101/Sonic Lost World/DK:TF/Rayman Legends/Mario 3D World/”X” all have potential to be system sellers as well. We could end up seeing a current 3DS situation on Wii U.. it’s crazy the amount of quality games hitting, or that have just hit the 3DS recently. Hopefully it’ll be enough to entice more 3rd party developers. The Wii U can keep up with PS4/Xbone much much better than Wii did with PS3/360.
