Two Indie RPGs Arriving For Wii U This Fall

Two new indie titles, both RPGs, have been officially confirmed for Wii U. BetaDwarf Entertainment will release their “tactical RPG” called Forced on the Wii U eShop this fall, according to the many press items on their home page. The developer also assures gamers can expect new features for the Wii U version of the game, including gamepad integration as well as the possibility of a new multiplayer mode. Described by their website as a “1 to 4 player co-op arcade adventure with puzzle and tactical elements,” Forced places gamers in the role of enslaved gladiators who must win their freedom.

Additionally, developers The Game Bakers have announced that their underwater RPG, Squids Odyssey, will soon arrive on both Wii U and 3DS. A Pikmin-like game featuring squids, Squids Odyssey finds the player directing groups of squids with different tactical abilities to help save their underwater habitat from an evil black ooze.

In a bid to sustain gamer interest in the Wii U until popular first-party titles are released, Nintendo has recently enlisted a wealth of indie developers with a wide variety of titles geared for the console’s eShop. Can Nintendo use this diverse lineup of unique games to guide the Wii U to a successful second year, just like they did with the 3DS? Or has the Wii U’s fate already been sealed by its abysmal sales figures? 2014 is sure to be a make or break year for Nintendo’s next-gen console.

      1. ^^Agree what’s wrong with indie games? the more the merrier..seems like ninty is emerging where we expected them the least : providing the most versatile platform for indie developers. Not sure they are as doomed as people make them be..

  1. Whoa, what’s this about 2014 make-or-break already? It’s only mid-August, and for the Wii U, 2013 is only just beginning! XD

That aside, this is great news. The Wii U will be fine. Even without indie games, though, Nintendo has proven that they are capable of sustaining a console on their own.

    1. @asecretgeek..I agree. This make it or break it articles are getting on my nerves. The Vita has been out FAR longer than the Wii U, and you rarely see any articles discussing it’s demise. PS3 did horror for the first couple of years, and it didn’t receive all this negative press. Anyhow, I welcome Indie support. They like making money, I like playing games, so it’s a win-win situation!

  3. ” Or has the Wii U’s fate already been sealed by its abysmal sales figures?” Click-bait everyday. MNN becoming WiiUDaily officially. Anyone knows a better news source? I’m outta here

  4. all the indie games being put out could have been easily on the original Wii. Why was Wii U make if its just getting simple sidescroller platforms and this simple made RPGs, the Wii you needs stronger titles, none of this shovel wear the games seem to be getting excited about it.

    1. oops, edit.

  5. Keep in mind that some of these indie developers may become future big game devs. Don’t underestimate any of them

  8. Wii U has all the Indie support. Get over it you haters. Wii U has the best 1st and 2nd party game and Indie support. So what if it doesn’t have every 3rd party game. Its unneeded. Most Indie devs are far better then 3rd party like Warner Bros, 505 Games, EA (Publisher but still counts) You don’t like Indie games? Boo hoo don’t buy them it doesn’t effect you. You say you want no more indie games but 3rd party? You should say indie games are nice but I want more 3rd party. Cause what you said was you don’t want indie support and then with lack of 3rd party we would have even less.
