Digital Foundry: Rayman Legends Is Fantastic On All Platforms, Wii U Is The Definitive Version

Tech analysis site Digital Foundry has compared the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions of the recently released Rayman Legends. The publication says that the Wii U version of the game is the definitive version as imagined by its creators, and does so by introducing GamePad-exclusive mechanics that are well thought out and that never feel like cheap gimmicks. However, Digital Foundry says that the game is an outstanding release on all platforms, with the modified Wii U gameplay mechanics mostly come off as a complete success on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

“Overall, it’s clear that the Wii U offers up the definitive version of the game as imagined by its creators, and does so by introducing GamePad-exclusive mechanics that are well thought out and that never feel like cheap gimmicks. But at the same time Rayman Legends is an outstanding release on all platforms, and an essential purchase regardless of which format you happen to own. The modified Wii U gameplay mechanics mostly come off as a complete success on the 360, PS3 and PC, and the increased focus on more traditional Rayman gameplay in these sections makes for an equally compelling alternative, if not the preferred choice for the more traditionalist gamer not that keen on touchscreen or motion-based gameplay features.”

  1. No surprise there.. also, it sucks that the game is underselling… Wii U version is selling the best, PS3 is second and 360 is last… Wii U version is only 14th on the list in Europe. :/ 💋

    1. Ubisoft is to blame for Rayman Legends underselling. They release this game in between Splinter Cell, Wonderful 101 and GTA 5. They should have never delayed the Wii U version. Now they are paying for their mistake. But i’m still happy that Wii U’s version is selling better and i’m still gonna buy this game

    2. It is really sad for the people who worked really hard on the game…the stupid “men in suits” that sit at the top of Ubisoft headquarters made a really stupid decision delaying the game so it could sell a few copies on PS3 and Xbox 360…now they’ll make even less money and they’ll blame it on the game.

      Don’t expect a new Rayman game anytime soon… :/

      1. You’re an idiot… They’re making more money regardless if the date they released it because they wouldn’t have near as many copies if they released back when they were supposed to because the Wii U sales are still shit so far. Wii U + PS3 + Xbox sales > Strictly Wii U sales. Do you really profesional businessmen are THAT stupid to just “blame it on the game”?

      2. Is under selling because days ago anyone can download the game for free in xbox ps3 and pc. Just waiting for the wiiu legal game.

    1. Gamespot has shitty opinions like… their opinions are shared by no one else. Sometimes I feel like they “chose” to be different as to create controversy. Which is sad… 💋

      1. If it was Halo and you had to take control of a different character using the Xbox One’s SmartGlass tech while the AI did most of the work, you’d probably see GameSpot praising it and calling it genius.

        1. Chris, probably… I’ve never seen a gaming company so biased before. Even IGN looks like Nintendo fanboys compared to GameSpot.

    1. His only purpose in life is trolling and being the first to post news about game consoles he hates. Nothing but 50 page refreshes a minute (c’mon, you can do better!).

    1. The ones at Gamestop can’t even play games…

“it’s so hard to view the controller and TV…”

      Unevolved apes…

      1. You forget that its currently in fashion to bash Nintendo because they have been succesful. Ps2 was bashed and called as game system which is sold by movies and only because it was succesful, in gamin media everything that does well is bad.

      1. The Vita version has 5 exclusive levels but is missing 28 levels from the other versions of the game, so that’s a 23 level deficit…

  2. I remember Nintendward saying that this game is hardly possible on PS3 or Xbox 360 even 720p30fps would have been hard to do.

    1. Yet they got it working on both those systems at 60fps, however, the games on the PS360 are running in 720p or 1080i while the Wii U version is a native 1080p.
