Keiji Inafune Records Special Message For Mighty No.9 Backers

After just two days on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, Mighty No.9 has reached its goal, and what other way to celebrate it than for Keiji Inafune to record a direct message to the fans and backers of the project. In a special recording, the Mega Man creator has thanked the backers (or Beckers, as Comcept says) for supporting this project in such a spectacular fashion. Inafune says that all his fatigue has petered away after working on the project secretly for four months and is incredibly happy that the announcement was received so well.

Mighty No.9, the Japanese side-scrolling action game, is now sitting proudly at $1.28 million – and it’s still growing. The explosion of hype from the media and fans alike have certainly propelled this title to new heights. And with a figure that doesn’t seem to be slowing down its growth spurt, it won’t be long before Mighty No.9 reaches the console stretch goals. Joining Keiji Inafune’s special message is an update from the team at Comcept, which you can see a portion of below.

“One of the things we’re most proud of is the overwhelmingly positive vibe we all share in this mission. There are no losers in our success here, and no bad guys to rail against. We all know that none of the amazing stories and fond memories you’ve all been sharing would’ve ever been possible without the games that came before us, the developers who created them, and the companies who promoted and sold and spread them throughout the world. Yes, we are aiming to revive and reinvent this genre, but we do so with the deepest humility and all due respect to those who came before us, or in many cases worked alongside us — our ex-coworkers and ex-employers, for example; whatever success we achieve here is ultimately a validation of their efforts. So we salute them — as we do all of you — Beck-style, with two fingers! (`_´)ゞ”

    1. Keep an open mind and actually try it when and if it launches on consoles soon. :) You might actually enjoy it as much as Megaman.

  1. Hold on guys! Do you guys realize that they are only halfway to the Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3 version? I hope you guys support it even it is not on Wii U. I kinda hoping for this project to reach Mac / Linux stretch goal for now.

      1. They probably waiting for the Wii U stretch goal to come up soon. Same thing happen to Ghost Song and now people trying to support that game but I think it is too late now.

        1. Capcom knows its suicide because whatever they try to do to kill Mighty, it’ll piss off the Megaman/Capcom fanbase so much that they’ll be lost forever and Megaman will be deader than ever thanks to the next huge dick move plus their stock will decline exponentially.

So its either let this successor (that clearly isn’t infringing anything) happen and learn from their big mistakes done over Megaman or pull another asshole stunt to shoot gamers in the face and risk losing so much more than just one franchise/fanbase but many like Resident Evil. Hell, the whole company will be burned alive.

          1. I gave up and I wish there is a search function. Well there are two bankers took the 10,000 dollars tier and I am not sure it is them.

Just search Capcom give 10,000 to mighty no. 9 in google. It will be one of the top links there.

    1. Im sure there making a new mega man but i think itll be retaliation as well. I bet you that this game would be better than
A new mega man game from capcom.

    2. Wait, I’m not not aware of the gaming laws and copyrights and things of that nature. But if this man was the creator of the game, of the entire seires… then why can’t he make his own game. I mean he should have the ability to make a Mega Man game. I have been longing for a Mega Man X9 or ZX 3, but there;s been a hiatus that seems to be more like placing an incredible franchise in the grave. What is going on that he can’t make the Mega Man game, why this spin off?

I still support him and I will buy it, but I’m just ignorant to what’s going on with the Mega Man franchise, Keiji and Capcom

      1. The thing is since he was an employee of Capcom and created Megaman under their contract, the franchise belongs to Capcom and they decide what to do with it which is more fucked up.

So since Keiji is no longer their bitch and fanbase is growing tired of “Crapcom” treating the Megaman series like dirt, he’s stepping up to make a successor of Megaman to appease the fanbase with a new but familiar Megaman-ish game to fill their void.

Capcom wants to use the whole “copyright” excuse to kill the new project because they clearly see Mighty No. 9 as a killer app threat against whatever fanbase they got left after pissing off so many over the past few years from being won over by Keiji’s latest game. I’ll tell you this: Mighty may look familiar by, what Keiji already described the reason, its chosen art style but the difference is 1. Its a different game with a different story, with different characters and creative universe that doesn’t tie with Megaman in anyway 2. Its created by the creator of Megaman himself so of course his style would look similar because he said he’s comfortable with it that way.

Crapcom can go ahead and try to kill this game but ultimately they will fail in both ways: either succeeding and risk damaging/losing their creditability, money and fanbase forever or fail and try to justify the fanbase to comeback by making a new Megaman game they’ve been begging for and then denied for years as a pathetic attempt to compete against another side that already won the loyal Megaman fans Crapcom selfishly pushed away.

  3. Inafune seems so excited to try to contain his happiness that it’s getting funded. I’m a proud supporter for giving $20 to the Kickstarter.
