Activision Says They Will Continue To Support Wii U And They Hope To Add To Its Appeal

activision_logo

Activision Publishing chief executive Eric Hirshberg has reassured Nintendo fans that the company will continue to support the Wii U despite the consoles disappointing sales figures. Hirshberg acknowledges that the system is under performing, but says the company will do everything it can do to assure that consumers see the appeal in the platform. However, the company hasn’t announced its big hitters such as Destiny or Diablo 3 for Nintendo’s latest home console, Wii U.

“That’s exactly right, Nintendo has been a great partner for us. It’s a very successful company but obviously having a rough go with the Wii U launch thus far. I’m sure Nintendo and the rest of the industry wanted a different result for the Wii U, but if we can add to the appeal of the platform then we absolutely will. Nintendo is a company that’s had hardware hits and misses in the past, but it has always found ways to remain completely relevant. It has some of the best game-makers in the world, and I wouldn’t count them out.”

        1. Nope I’ve been here for a while, I just think that it’s retarded to post “first” as the entirety of your comment. Nothing better to do than to boast about being the first to comment on a Nintendo News site? Ok, if that floats your boat. It just seems wasteful.

  1. Good news…even if the true title should be: “Treyarch will continue to support Wii U”, IW hates nintendo, Modern warfare reflex, Modern warfare 3 on wii and Ghost on wii u are ported by Treyarch

      1. What hatred? IW should hate Activision for going all dickhead mode and cheat their hard work bonus from MW2 and made half of the company quit to form Respawn.

Whatever IW is left is just half of itself that doesn’t hate Nintendo but just isn’t interested. That possibly explains why MW3 was the worst, broken POS game ever.

    1. no its because treyarch has a dedicated team for nintendo platforms, they only ever work on nintendo ports of cod etc, and so know the hard ware better then one of the other sub-teams, it is not because of some supposed hate!

  2. I hope by continuing to support Nintendo they mean releasing DLC for their future games, on the Wii U. I’m looking forward to the Free Fall map DLC on my Wii U version of Ghosts and all the other perks I get for my preorder of the game. Just got an email from GameStop a couple of days ago stating that I get multiple exclusive DLC items for my preorder of Ghosts on the Wii U, that’s hopeful!

      1. Well according to GS and my correspondence with Activision’s Support line it is still coming to the Wii U. Maybe they just didn’t get the memo yet. Either way I’m looking forward to the game.

    1. I’d be happy for the First part of 2014 When it was released. That way I would have more to play until MK8, SSBU, and X come out in 2014, at least with the Wii U. I hope that they are making it for Wii U, that really would be great!

    2. It will be gimped and if it does come that way, don’t buy it to support the idea of more gimped ports coming to Wii U only for a quick buck and a laugh at Nintendo universe.

      1. Destiny doesn’t do GIMPED games. Bungie are almost all Nintendo fans. Wii U can run Destiny just as well as the Xbox One can. Might not be AS great graphics as the PS4 version. But that’s irrelevant.

  3. ACTIVISION. Destiny cometh :). Loving Activision everyday now. They seem to know what nintendo is capable of, also the see Microsoft leaving the console business this generation, but at best next. With the WiiU selling out Zelda and Pikmin 3, Mario Sonic Donkey Kong and Gang are soon landing. Activision sees the EA blunder of not putting their shooter on the WiiU. Trust me next year we are buying COD seals and dolphins as well.

Nintendo has the best game developers period. Sakurai, Aonuma and the one and only Shigeru Miyamoto :).

  5. Like a promise from ONE FUCKING DEVELOPER will save the Wii U

How did Nintendo let things get this bad?

I WILL COCKSLAP SOME SENSE INTO NINTENDO !!!!

Yamauchi should never have left Nintendo.

    1. Yamauchi is the person that told Iwata to go with dual-screen gaming. Here’s one of the articles relating to it: http://mynintendonews.com/2012/12/20/yamauchi-helped-influence-wii-u-and-nintendo-ds/

There are more all over the internet. Here’s another: http://kotaku.com/5970047/the-wii-u-isnt-just-a-large-scale-ds-in-function-its-one-in-spirit-as-well

His Dual screen gaming and “leadership” don’t seem to be the stuff that dreams are made of as far as the Wii U goes, but I agree with you if you are saying Iwata is a poor leader for the company, because he sure seems to be. Not much but loss for the company since he took leadership.

  6. If you are waiting for call of duty sells to see if you are goin to bring destiny to wiiu you are doing it wrong.

  7. Atleast Activision are supporting the Wii U instead of going EA on the console, lol. I don’t play COD, but I respect Activision for supporting the console regardless.

  8. I’m on CallofDuty.com and I can’t pre order this once I click the Wii U tab. It has the FREE FALL icon removed. One last detail is for the standard game the description says developed by Infinty Ward. I thought Treyarch was building the Wii U from the ground up? I’m glad I’m not confused about how to get my hands on this game with all the cool stuff for supporting Activision.

  9. I always hear bad things about activision about dlc and other stuff but the way they talk about Nintendo is really starting to earn my respect. They really could of skipped the wii or the wii u but taking a chance and continuing to support a company that isn’t doing well… They have my respect. Thanks activision for giving them a chance and sticking with them.

    1. You do know they’re plainly bullshitting in your face to buy their gimped Ghosts at launch right? They did it with BO2 and they’ll happily do it again with Ghosts.

I’m not gonna be suckered into their lies again from Wii U BO2. That’s the final time I’m getting blindly conned by Activision.

  10. Activision has had hits with Nintendo hardware in the past, and while they do own COD, a series I wouldn’t play personally (nor a genre I like, but moving on), the series itself has had success on Wii and Wii U (of course, nowhere near the level as on the Dudebro 360 and PS3, but you know).

Write Nintendo off at your own peril, haters.

    1. I think it’s funny that everyone thinks dlc makes the game. It would be nice to get the option but i can see why they don’t do it. They are trying to be supportive and trying to keep there loss down . If only more people played on the wii u I’m sure we would get dlc.

      1. Activision have been one of the Wii U’s best supporters along with Ubisoft. They complain about not getting DLC, 3-4 Wii U Activision games aren’t even getting released in Australia >_>

  11. When EA stops making games for a console you know it will die soon…

    I miss my Sega Dreamcast

EA may be shit but punters want their new consoles to play FIFA 14, 15, 16, 17, 18,19 ……….

  12. Activision, you’re becoming exactly like EA and Ubisoft combined (publicly spitting lies while making games (gimped BTW) at the same time to fool people that they’re optimistic about Nintendo)

Stop with the bullshit and give us Wii U owners equal support and respect like DLC on COD: BO2 and Ghosts. The only real reason of lacking support is because you’re not giving exactly what Nintendo fans want nor advertising Nintendo’s side of any multiplatform games. And that’s the only real truth behind dickhead 3rd parties trashing Nintendo again over the same dumbass cause: Power, greed and ignorance about gaming.

Either you need to cut bullshitting in Nintendo/fans face and deliver what is expected or do what EA is doing: STFU and stay away from their doorstep.

    1. The butthurt in you is so damn funny. Activision and Ubisoft have been the best supporters for Wii U. By the way, want a tin foil hat? It would suit you well ;)

    1. Yeah by not providing all features and DLC in BO2/Ghosts

Also, they falsely advertised BO2 when in the back of its box it says “On-Add Content(DLC)” plus lied about the Nuketown 2025 and now Freefall Pre-order bonuses.

  13. No matter what people say about Activision, I like a lot of their games, Black Ops 1&2, Skylanders, Spider-Man, Transformers, Diablo 3, and I am interested in Destiny. I wish Diablo 3 was on Wii U and I hope Destiny comes to Wii U.

    1. How about porting Destiny without anything being gimped with full support/DLC, and then they’ll win some little respect back.
