A panel of IGN editors have released a new Nintendo Voice Chat and video in which they address the concern of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team being left off of their new list of the 25 best 3DS games. At about 7 minutes, they begin to discuss the reasoning behind their choice to exclude the game, saying that they found it “boring” and that the game contained a great deal of text that was condescending at times.
The voice chat also discusses each editor’s choices for the five best games on 3DS, as well as Aonuma’s recent comments about a possible Majora’s Mask remake. Topping IGN’s list of 25 3DS titles were Super Mario 3D Land, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Do you agree with IGN’s comments about Mario & Luigi: Dream Team? Did the whole world unanimously say that it was? I don’t like Fire Emblem and I don’t think it’s the best, IMO. I do agree that it’s a great game… it’s just not for me (and many others, I assume.)
Disagreed, it started becoming a drag after a while, but it’s not necessarily bad. I liked previous ones better though, like Partners in Time. I love Baby Mario’s ”GOO GOOOO!” when a baby battle starts.

Nah, the game is pretty damn great! Their list was stupid and wrongly arranged. NSMB2 listed higher than the like of Revelations, Kid icarus, Mario Kart 7… Colors 3D an art application was on the list *sigh*. Seemed like they hadn’t thought it out very well…

You might want to watch that NVC. They discussed their reasoning and personal lists. It was actually worth watching and they provided some interesting insight to the creation of the lists.
To be honest, I’m not sure Super Mario 3D Land should claim the top spot. To me it was a very easy and dull game. In fact, of the main series games it’s probably one of my least favorites.

I actually liked Sticker Star. FUCK ME RIGHT? On a serious note, my opinion is that the story was bad, I agree, but the boss battles (Gooper Blooper, for example) were really unique. The music also was fantastic, especially the remix of the slider theme from SM64. It’s a handheld game anyways, give it some slack.
lol the soundtrack is the only good thing about Sticker Star

I looked at it, it doesn’t look like that 25 top list is only claiming it’s from there opinion. The way they did it with DT should of been thought about other people mostly. (There article addressed others on some games) If they wanted to do something opinion-personal based, they should of said “Our personal favorite”.

Sorry to say that you are incorrect Nintedward. You’re asking for a non-biased “top 25” list based off of the majority of consumers? Even the consumers are opinionated… IGN didn’t specify by what standard (if it were to be objective) that the list was created; i.e. by total sales, metacritic (gamer score, which is still opinion), release date, etc. Even then, it wouldn’t be up to your standards which goes back to my main point: a top list is impossible to create without being subjective.
Your example of creating even a top 5 is subjective because then it forces the writers to speculate what the majority of gamers prefer over themselves. The best way to deal with writers’ opinions on games and hardware is to not read it. I personally find IGN to be blatantly biased against Nintendo and PC; and blindly supportive of Microsoft and marginally less of Sony. It’s like that in every website.

They actually sat down for hours and argued about how to make the list. It wasn’t just one guy. It was, I believe, four different reviewers with four different tastes and four different individual lists. They argued about how to order the list before they put it online, and made it something they believed in their own opinion.
I don’t even see why you’re upset about this when in two months the whole top 5 portion could be completely different. It’s just their opinion at this point in time.

listened to the pod cast the other day, got the impression it was left off not because was boring as such, but rather their was 25 better games that deserved to be on the list and head of dream team.
I’m actually getting a bit tired of these constant new Mario games. I’d say 3D land was ok, and the New Super Mario Bros. are just no good. Luigi’s Mansion 2 was pretty good though.
I would love to see a proper sequel to the original Super Mario series, along with Super Mario 64. New Super Mario Bros. is pathetic (imo). I miss the Nintendo from the 80’s and 90’s. :(

Thats stupid, because last of us starts really really slow and they gave it a 10. Its an excellent game but the beggining is very slow and has little gameplay to it.

I’m a casual gamer, and this is the first platforming game I’ve actually enjoyed. Easy, yes. Handholding, yes. But I actually like it, and have started playing other games now. Once you get past the tutorials, or you skip them, the game moves nicely along.
I think IGN and a lot of other gaming journalist forget that not everybody is HARD_CORE GMAERZ.
If I made it list, it might be somewhere on it so I don’t completely agree with what they say. But it’s their list, not mine, and I’ll respect the opinions of the people who contributed to the list although it differs to my own opinion.

I didn’t like the story nearly as much as Bowser’s inside Story. Not nearly as interesting as I thought it would be. Although I REALLY enjoyed this game, it is slow paced.
if you want to play an rpg with a good story…. mario and luigi dont really got one. its more of a simple one but more focused on gameplay. super mario rpg is the closest mario rpg your going to get with a story.

Super Mario RPG was a really fun mario game with good humor and a decent story. Disappointing that it’s older and harder to obtain, but something to consider.
Probably my most favorite Mario game of all time. I can think of a few more that are spectacular, but that one takes the cake for me.

I personally think Paper Mario had a better storyline & character connection. While I prefered Mario RPG’s music, strategy, & some towns more. I also liked Mario Tennis for the GBC, great game that also had rpg elements. Too bad they removed them later.
