Several hours ago, we reported that after over a month of speculation, Sega had finalized its purchase of Atlus parent company Index Corporation. New details have now emerged about the deal. The first is that the purchase was actually made by Sega Dream Corporation, established September 5th as a “wholly owned subsidiary” of Sega Corporation, itself a subsidiary of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.
According to Sega, Sega Dream Corporation “was established to become the transferee of the transfer of Index operations.” Additionally, the deal is said to be valued at 140 million dollars and will be completed by November 1st, 2013. Here are some other important details from Sega’s official notice regarding the purchase:
“The Company believes that transfer of Index’s operations to Sega will create synergies, on the grounds that the deal will enable the Company to:
- (1) gain access to prominent IPs in the home video game software, through which the Company can expect to achieve steady flows of revenue;
- (2) expect further facilitation of revenue growth for the PC Online Game Business and Content Business for Smart Devices operated by Sega and Sega Networks Co., Ltd. by exploiting acquired prominent IPs and
- (3) maximize the value of acquired IPs by effectively deploying them in the Pachislot and Pachinko Machines segment, Amusement Machine Sales and Amusement Center Operations segments.”
Let’s hope they bring Persona to Nintendo consoles…
Sega has been a rather fair player. I would doubt they would burn Sony fans. Than again, stranger things have happened.
They are making social links by gaining new IPs
Persona 5 confirmed!
it’s not that big of a deal tbh. On terms of Shin Megami Tensei Nintendo has gotten the majority as it is.
http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Games I mean, the series has A LOT of games. XD
No it should stay the way it is Atlus already supports nintendo with other games like Shin Megami Tensei and Etryian Odyssey so it should stay as a sony exclusive.
you sound like someone who only wants it there way, you’ll go far in life
In before Sonic is a demon in Shin Megami Tensei
I wouldn’t mind references like that in future SMT games..
Why does it seems that SEGA wants to fuck SMT up the arse?
I don’t know if that means they will make games for Nintendo systems?
Persona should come to 3DS.
4. When everything is settled with the Sega Kingdom, the Atlusians will gain access to the main facilities in our empire and create games beyond their powers!
Well ok Sega has money to buy Index and Relic, but they dont have money to come back on console business, just WTF? I dont care what people say about Segas financial problems, they seem to be all lies if they have money to throw on different studios. Even failure like Aliens CM costed them much and still they have money. Fuck Sega if you have so much money do the fuckin awesome new console and shake things up in this industry damnit.
What you fail to understand is that they’re tying up all their money expanding business. you can’t make a console just with Sonic alone.
Someone Hugh me, I want to cry :'(
Nintendo news can’t be getting better. !
Aaaaaand what about localisation? Hmm?
So does this mean they bought Atlus? Awwwww maaaaan
Why aren’t we getting any details and Atlus USA in all of this? They’ve always been pretty faithful when it comes to localization, if they’re still in charge of it then maybe things will turn out well.
Though odds are that Atlus won’t be able to publish niche games that would have otherwise never made it to NA otherwise…
This damn website needs an ”edit post” option…
