This week’s Media Create sales charts are now in from Japan. The Nintendo 3DS has enjoyed another bumper week, thanks to Pokemon X & Y. Nintendo’s latest handheld sold a respectable 154,578 units, but it wasn’t quite as impressive as the week before when it sold a staggering 213.570 units. The Wii U continues to struggle in Japan. This week saw the console dip below the 3,000 units mark. It should also be noted that Rayman Legends which recently launched in Japan, exclusively on Wii U, failed to enter the top thirty.

Call this damage control if you want but I’m stating facts here. The Wii U in Japan needs the price cut the rest of the world got as well as the games that are coming for the holidays and beyond. The former helped the system get some ground in the states and UK. I’m even starting to think that Japanese consumers heard about the cuts and are holding their cash until the same thing happens at home.
These are all valid reasons why the system isn’t selling over there. So all this, Nintendo sucks, they are doomed (even though the system hasn’t been out a year yet and the 3DS is keeping the company profitable) talk is just getting annoying at this point.

This is what happens when Nintendo became the baby games company with Mr. Iwata in charge. Back in the day when Mr. Yamauchi was in charge Nintendo was more diversified, they used to make a variety of different types of games for gamers who aren’t interested in all the baby Mario and whatnot games. They had Rare, Silicon Knights, Left Field, the good relationship with Factor 5. Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Conker, Eternal Darkness, all the Star Wars games, they had Wave Race, 1080°. The bright ones in charge decided to sell Rare and the rest of their 2nd party studios years ago. The only one they kept was Retro (and now they put them to work on another baby game, great idea!). Only the fanboy babies will say selling Rare wasn’t a mistake. Nintendo decided to go baby years ago when Mr. Iwata got in charge. Now all they do are baby games. Bring on the baby games, there must be a baby game that will save this underpowered running on 7 year old hardware excuse of a baby console.

Resident Evil 2 is a Capcom tittle and it sold extremely well. I think you meant the Resident Evil remake that was for the Gamecube. That bombed because Japan is not huge on remakes but it sold decent in the west. The Resident Evil remake is one of my favorite games with Resident Evil 2 being my number 1 favorite game ever. (Super Mario World being a close second contender for that spot)
For the record I cancelled my pre order for the delay station 4. I’m good till maybe next year until Destiny and The Evil Within come out. Buying all my third party games for the Wii U. I find the tablet controller more appealing then a tiny little pad so I can slash at random crap. Sony has NEVER been that great at offering something revolutionary. They just upgrade there crap and call it NEW. Other then the share button that’s about it. I prefer the Mii Verse community over the retards that get on there mic’s and bash my mother and family and sling the N word around because they can hide behind there screen name. Resident Evil 2 N64, Global sales 0.56m.
By the time Resident Evil 2 hit the N64 people had already bought it for the Playstation there for buying it for the N64 would of been a waste of money. (Not that I feel that way cause I bought it myself lol) I know what your trying to say but I think Capcom and Shinji REALLY felt the effects of things when they did a remake (exclusively) for the Nintendo Gamecube and it flopped on them. Still an amazing game that everyone should play through at least ONCE in there life time.
Nintendo just needs to recapture 3RD party and offer them something they can’t refuse like any sort of lifting fee’s or letting some third partys handle some of there 1st party games like back when Nintendo let Square Soft (now know as Square Enix) do Super Mario RPG Legend Of The Seven Stars. Look how EPIC that turned out for them. To this day Super Nintendo is my favorite console EVER. People can buy the delay station 4 or the X bot 1 but in the end I feel we already have the Ultimate system. The Super Nintendo! (Just my opinion lol)
Pikmin 3 is the latest entry in a cult franchise. It is not that popular and is not an instant system mover. It was a momentum starter.
101 is a new IP that was panned by lazy reviewers and as such, money watching consumers didn’t buy many copies. The game has been selling better as of late though.
Windwaker HD is not moving consoles (in JAPAN) because Zelda doesn’t sell systems there as well as other parts of the world… guess what? Sales of the Wii U are up over 200% after WWHD came out. You know what else happened outside of Japan? A price drop! Yes, that combined with WWHD caused that sales increase. The Wii U is still struggling in JAPAN because *gasp* they didn’t freaking get the price drop yet!!!!!!!!!!
The bad relationship with third parties started in DURING the N64 days. Those 3rd party games you mentioned were all on the N64 but developers went to the PS1 which was easier to work with. Nintendo hasn’t recovered since. Guess when Yamauchi stepped down? During the Gamecube era. Your point is invalid.
Rare was bought from Nintendo in a deal that was disadvantageous to Nintendo. They were not intending to lose the developer as there were some games planned that had to be either cancelled or changed completely afterwards. NOBODY I have seen on the internet has ever remotely said that selling Rare was a good idea so I have no clue where that came from. As for the other 2nd parties… I didn’t even know there were other second parties besides rare at that point. I’ll do some research but I think you’re talking BS here.
Baby games are rated eC for Early Childhood. I have never ever seen a game rated eC in my life but I’m told there was a Sesame Street game rated as such. Nintendo first party games are rated from E for Everyone (6 years to adulthood) to T for Teen (13 years to adulthood) cause they are easy to pick up and play for the kids and difficult to master for the adults. I swear it’s like haters ignore this info everytime they are told this.

Well, saleswise things haven’t been looking good. Nintendo will still make games for it, but it’s definitely not going to be able to compete with the 3DS, PS4, or the Xbox One. The name was a fatal mistake that can’t be fixed at this point. Nintendo needs to throw in the towel and wait for the next generation. Continue to make Wii U games, but they shouldn’t make any that cost a lot of money, since they won’t make a profit
I agree Nintendo has had many issues with the wii u, but throwing in towel would be stupid they need to show they have that fire that others don’t have. Most of the next gen consoles won’t make much of a profit either(especial Microsoft they’ll lose more money then ps3 for what they are doing)
Well, they’ll still talk a really good game in the articles. Myamoto will probably talk about how the games have been doing well and he’s proud of the Wii U. So they can still talk tough and make some games, but make sure that they don’t cost as much. Having that fire is a good thing, but they should use their energy towards more profitable pursuits, like the 3DS. So, in a sense they would be throwing in the towel, but they can keep up a decent front
Big budget games are stupid in general they can kill a company rather fast if they fail., just Look at industry. They shouldn’t do them every year. I hope Nintendo gives the fans what they wanton wii u so they get what they deserve

i can play the other 3rd party games on other platforms, that’s not really what i bought a wii u for anyway
and the wii u still has an install base of several million.. of course they can make a profit if they sell good games
almost any game that sells a million or more copies (nsmbu actually sold 2 million) is very likely to turn a profit and the install base will continue to grow albeit rather slowly (unless they still manage to turn it around)
Only takes one game to sell a system, I’m not talking Wii numbers here, I mean Nintendo don’t even need to sell 60M consoles to make a profit, 20M+ would be fine and with the big franchises coming soon there’s no reason why they can’t reach that.
I’ll wait till all the big tiles come to make my final opinion on the console. As said I before this next gen will be slow for all three. I’ve seen the upcoming games list there isn’t much coming

We saw a small spike after Pikmin a bigger spike after WWHD, I think that Super Mario 3D World will be an even bigger spike, people will be actively seeking out the system just to play that game.
For the record, I don’t think that the Wii U will do much better in Japan even after the new bundles hit. The market is completely different, you only have to look at the sales charts to see that handheld gaming is king and consoles are dying.. It actually started after the PS2.
PS4 delayed in Japan as US and Europe and the number 1 markets, Xbone isn’t even being released!
It’s true that Japan is mobile crazy and handhelds do better there. However, the Wii U can do much better in Japan if specific exclusive games were made for it that target their likes. So far, no system selling titles have been released, which is why 2014 is such a pivotal year. It’s really all about the games more than it is the price at this point.
As for the PS4, it wasn’t “delayed” in Japan. It just got a later release date to allow for more games targeting that demographic to be developed. If anything, it is being released early in North America because it’s the largest gaming market and the Holiday shopping rush is about to begin. Even EU and other regions get it slightly later (although still before Japan) because they don’t have the same shopping habits that the U.S. has.
This isn’t the first time a system gets a release months after another region.

Wii U still needs to get a better marketing and get those must-have 1st party titles to increase their sales, these numbers right now are very predictable, and is not anything surprising.

Well, it has been a failure there for 6 years. I think all that needed to be said has already been said. lol
However, it has been a large success outside of Japan. The Wii U on the other hand, is struggling everywhere. That’s not to say it can’t improve, this is only year one. It still has a lot of life ahead of it to improve in its library, functions, and sales.

Wiiu is far from finished. It’s on course to be a low selling system, but certainly not finished. Smash bros, Mario kart 8, 3D world, Bayonetta 2 , X etc. Nuff said.

When you think about it 90% of Video game consumers will have a limited budget. The majority of which have just bought Monster hunter and Pokémon. Which takes all the spotlight away from Wiiu.

The MediaCreate shows Wii U hardware following for all the weeks since the Wind Waker HD. Isn’t obvious what’s going on here? People over there are clearly waiting for all those high value Family bundles that release on October 31st. Sheesh. I am surprised you site managers haven’t noted that yet.

I agree, I think it’s pretty safe to assume some people are waiting for the new bundles to get a better deal.
Wii U sales in Japan saw a constant ~5k-ish sales in September and was stagnent on the week of the new Bundle reveal.
Then, WiiU Sales dropped (-30%) considerably by the start of October, which was the week(of sales) after the new bundles were announcement. Sales in Japan continued to drop each week in October.
That look like anticipation to me, demand is being bottled up. It’s simlar to the Vita sales drop weeks before Vita’s new models were released and the 3DS sales drop weeks before the 3DS price cut.
Guess the Wii U is done for.
Yeah the 3ds is on a roll. so many great games have been coming out lately for it. The Wii U needs way more games and from a wide variety too so there is something for everyone. Once the games come rolling in then the Wii U will sell better.
