Respected analytic firm Nielsen has conducted a survey to find out which next generation consoles consumers are most interested in. The publication found that 30 percent of active gamers in the United States said they plan on purchasing Sony’s PlayStation 4, 22 percent are shopping for the Xbox One and 10 percent are looking to pick up the Wii U. The most wanted game on Wii U was unsurprisingly the recently released Super Mario 3D World closely followed by Wii Fit U.

Actually, this is about what I expected, and honestly, it isn’t so bad. If Nintendo captured even 10% of the market, I would not consider that a failure. I think Sony more or less has the hardcore crowd tucked away, but I still think Nintendo has decent chance of capturing the “everybody else” crowd. I think it’s a good niche for Nintendo and I’ve come to embraced it. People accuse Nintendo of only making kiddie games, but I don’t think the accusation is fair. Nintendo games are quite deceptive in the sense that they are very non-intimidating to newcomers, but provide a surprising level of depth to older players. Kiddie games typically don’t do this, nor do they strive for the same level of quality. In other words, Nintendo hits all the right notes with their games, creating one timeless classic after another, but its like their marketing team has forgotten what makes Nintendo great in the first place. I continue to cross my fingers that Nintendo will beat out Microsoft in the console war (I admit it, I have an irrational hatred of Microsoft and I think the Xbox One is stupid), but if they don’t, I won’t consider it a failure. The war isn’t over yet, and besides, there’s always next generation. Ultimately, I think the audience for the Wii U is there, but the message still isn’t getting across (the recent slew of commercials are godawful).

Yeah, but if you’ve ever taken a statistics class you would know that statistics can be accurate even when you do not survey the ENTIRE population. It’s called a sample size and they can be highly accurate.
By your standards NO statistic on video games could EVER be accurate, because there is no such thing as a statistic that surveyed 60 million people lol!
ON the other hand, where was this survey taken? On some analytics website? Analytics people generally lean towards Smartphones/Tablets and Xboxes/Playstations, because they are usually uncreative, blank people. If this survey was taken on a more creative site, maybe a creative art site, like deviantart.com, the Wii u would definitely win.

Statistics isn’t necessarily a final say due to the possible risk of it being inaccurate in some way. (In fact, all can be, if not done properly. And even then, there’s the possible risk of misinterpreting statistics or taking it out of context.)

Yeah, plus this survey results aren’t even surprising, if more people wanted the wii u, then more people would be buying the wii u. As it stands, that just isn’t the case, and this survey is reflected in the sales.
I will say though, that them avoiding any explicit mention that 38% of active gamers were not interested in getting any of these does make me think they are trying to sway the readers a little bit.

Check out the game list. It is hilarious for all console but strangely sad for the ps4 also the part that shows this survey is inconclusive are actually the console with the highest porcentage. Who wants just dance on xbone and ps4 and is going to pay extra for those games?

If XB1 has 22% and Wii U 10%, that’s actually not bad. IGN ran their own survey and got like 2% for Wii U, and PS4 and XB1 took the rest, unlike this survey.

From what we’ve seen so far that statement should be reversed. While the GamePad has potential to be great, I doubt Nintendo or any other company will ever release a game that makes people say “i absolutely need this controller.”
Part of me thinks that the gamepad should’ve been optional…like an add on or something.
Personal I hate ps4’s controller…kinda its very comfortable, but the battery last 4-6 hours and power cord sucks. Tried it at friends house its cool but nothing great yet, it felt like tye wii u at its beginning, but won’t get library till much later. Infamous is good game series but its something I like but not a huge fan of. I belive 2015 and late 2014 might be a huge year for ps4. I more excited for wii u at this moment nothing against PS i’m just more excited for the wii u at this time

Do you know any other game company that has done something like Wii Fit? I cannot possibly think of a single title. Plus it’s original and there are 2 others. I personally would love to get Wii Fit U! :)
I feel like Nintendo fans should stop eating these stories up. No doubt it sucks to hear Nintendo is struggling to be successful with Wii U. But don’t worry, eventually we will have an amazing line up of triple A games to play and in my mind what will most likely be the best looking and most innovative Zelda ever created. Nintendo knows they have made mistakes and they are taking the right steps. That’s what’s important and the ongoing support of their current and future consumers. So don’t fret. Most casual gamers probably don’t even visit video game related websites to do these surveys, hence the low percentages.
I hardly call just under 4 million consoles a struggle. What is so good about X1 and PS4 anyways? The same controller type, no way to actually interact with the game.

Might sound odd, but their mistake has actually done them some good. It’s shown them where they need to pick up the pieces and work on fixing the issues (obviously I hope they do not do it again), and second of all, because 2 AAA titles are now out, they should help with the sales. It’s Nintendo’s job to advertise the game.
If people are still don’t know what Wii U is and the differences, then they need to get their heads checked out.

I don’t care now. this shows just the actual status with the launches of ps4&xboxone just around the corner. so everything is hyped for that 2 systems. but only time will tell – in 2-3 years who’s really winning this race. just take ps3 – they had very bad sales numbers in the beginning and than 4 years late the console began to sell millions. so everybody should stop speculations and begin playing!

it really isn’t that bad if you look at it, PS4 is 30%, which is really only 20% more than the Wii U and Xbox one is 22% which is only 12% more than Wii U. The thing that is bad is the demand for new Consoles. Only 62% must want new things while the rest are either content with old systems or smartphones, assuming.

PS4 from 1 million in one day to 93k in a week? Wii U sold 52k in the states. IP from 32k last week. And globally Mario did a bigger number than Pikmin. Pikmin never got Wii U to 6 figures globally. Mario was the first to do it. They’ll compare SM64 global sales to 3D Mario World japan only but what about global to global? Why want they do that? Come on media do a global to global 3D Mario game comparison now.
