Game Informer: Developers We Think Should Work On Nintendo Franchises

Game Informer has put together an interesting list of developers that they would like to see tackle key Nintendo franchises. Of course, it’s unlikely that any of these will come into fruition, but we can dream. Team Ninja developed Metroid: Other M, so who knows what may happen. What do you think to the developer choices?

  • Firaxis on Pikmin
  • WayForward on Metroid (sidescroller)
  • From Software on The Legend of Zelda
  • Ubisoft Montpellier on Super Mario Bros.
  • Konami on 3D Metroid
  • Criterion on F-Zero

        1. Origins/Legends destroy NSMBWii/U. Someone get this to Ubisoft to make a 2D Mario game that could potentially stack up to the likes of World.

                1. I would love a 2D Mario even more if Ubisoft took over the 2D Mario platformer. Rayman Legends kicks ass. You Nintendo fans are just not sticking to NSMBU being better only because it went multiplat.

          1. What I liked better on Legends than NSMBU was you could pick any character you wanted, it used more GamePad function than 2D Mario and it was sort of funny and lastly, but not most important, the graphics looked better. Agree, Rayman Legends is better than NSMBU.

        2. “Mario platformers are fine as is, why ruin a good thing by bringing in an foreign party?”

What’s really special about NSMBU? All it is is the Wii version with just toe ability to play off tv mode. Rayman Legends you had to open doors and cages while a character was running with the swipe of a finger. Plus, some bad guys you had to tickle them inorder to get pass them. That’s next gen capability right there.

          1. Talking about next gen capabilities.. I see that no developer has used the Wii U gamepad to it’s advantage. The Wii U is basically a high-def Nintendo DS snapped in half. I’m pretty sure anyone can come up with an innovate way to use the gamepad. I mean.. They did it with the DS.

  1. Montpellier NO. They make a great platformer, sure. But they excell at tightness of controls, and charm of design. Mario is all about level design, though, and in that regard it destroys Rayman. I would hate to see Mario with Montpellier’s kind of level design.

      1. I agree with you marthfaceguy. I think Rayman Legends was better than 2D Mario. Rayman Legends was closer to using NFC technology than 2D Mario and used more of the GamePad. And you can race others online. Player one isn’t just stuck with one character neither. It was funny, The graphics loooked better. The music was better.

  2. The best 3rd party developer to work on any of Nitnendo’s franchises was Rareware back in the N64 days. RIP Rare. RIP Banjo. Starfox Assult wasn’t like Starfox 64 or Starfox Adventures. RIP all you games that were developed for Nintendo. How I will miss you alll. Banjo-Kazooie, I so miss you and wish you were with Retro.

    1. Wait, I got to take that back Platium has done a hell of a job with W101 though. Sorry. But that is one hell of a game one hell of a game indeed. I love it.

    1. Yeah Ubisoft works on 2D Mario game using functions on the Gamepad and Nintendo focuses on making it difficult because ubisoft sucked in that area.

  3. Yes to all except for Konami. Fuck Konami.

Give 3D Metroid to Shinji Mikami, i’d love to see what he’d do with it, seeing as he made Resident Evil, and also directed the best 3rd person shooter ever, Vanquish.

  4. ubiart metroid would be my preference + retro 3d metroid

I mean rayman legends is one of the best looking games ever with some very metroidy locations. I would love it I’m sure.

  5. Rayman and his gang would make interesting Smash Bros Characters. Also. Ubisoft stages from Legends would have been great too.

  6. Rayman Legends 2D side looks better than Tropical Freeze. .And Tropical Freeze doesn’t even use the GamePad’s potential like Raymand Legends.

  7. First of all, none if these will ever happen…

Second, Mario games are good as they are, just stop with the NSMB series…

Third, I don’t want any Electron base defiling our sacred games!

        1. Ignoring the comments that brought up NSMBU vs Raykan Legends and you responded when some brought Ubisoft should work on 2D Mario games. Therfore you didnt have to bring up Legends.

  8. I will not mind that they give the Mario franchise to work to someone else, I’m kinda fed up of the art style Mario seem to adopt forever after Sunshine. I miss those time in which Mario was the one that was always changing art style which every game before it became a Zelda thing.

  9. Shin’en Fzero
    Retro the best for Metroid
    Miyamoto please stay at pikmin
    Nintendo EAD please stay Mario
    Anumo please stay at Zelda

So the only one i think is right, shin’en cause those guys are waaaay better then the most developers, and they are not that big like the most.

  10. LOL WORST LIST OF DEVS EVER.

WAYFORWARD ON METROID 2D THE SAME PPL WHO MADE THAT SHITAE (SHANTAE) MESS. LMAO

I WANNA KNO WHAT GI ARE SMOKING

  11. All I think is that Shin’en should be on every game polishing graphics, cos they seem to be the only ones understading hardware lol

  12. From Software is one of the worst developers out there. I wouldn’t want them to touch Zelda at all. They will ruin it.

  13. Why would Nintendo even bother out sourcing their own IPs? They would bother doing that. Retro are an exception because they have done very well with DK. If it were to happen then Nintendo would only test the companies as they don’t compromise quality.

    1. Ignoring Rare worked on Starfox and DK tittles. Also ignoring we want nintendo to do a DK64 sequel where Rareware Left off.

  14. That’s a fairly decent list. I mean they all have proven themselves many times by the past, it could be great. New Metroid and F-Zero would be absolutely amazing.

    1. If anything Konami needs to be concentrating on a remake of Mystical Ninja for the Wii U and making a 3D version of Mystical Ninja 64 for the 3DS

  15. Criterion Games – Crusin’ USA, F-Zero
Platinum Games – Starfox, Kid Icarus
Retro Studios – Metroid, new fighting game

That is all for me. No one has any business develop a Mario or Zelda game besides Nintendo. Period.

        1. You said no one has business developing a Zelda game besides Nintendo, but Capcom were the ones who developed both Oracles games, not Nintendo.

          1. The Oracles series was not done by Capcom. It was down by Flagship which was a company funded by Capcom, Nintendo, and Sega.

The entire Oracle series sold less than 4 million copies worldwide. Hardly anything to shout about not really a necessary point of contention. If you loved those GB games then good for you. My stance that no one has any business making a Zelda or Mario game (and this means a regular platform title and not some game outside the norm like Hyrule Warriors or something like that) besides Nintendo. You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine. Leave it a that.

  16. Wayfoward on metroid sidescroller on 3dsYES! If that’s the Ubisoft team that I believe to be the same one that worked on rayman origins/legends I would love to see what they do with the series. I don’t know if we could trust criterion. Other than that I’m not sure about the others.

  17. I think Nintendo EAD does a fine job with Mario. No need to change that. Really. Ubisoft is great, but Nintendo’s working with it wonderfully.

  18. Since Kamiya basically said “Fuck you!” to Star Fox thanks to certain fans on Twitter, Treasure should be up for it now that they are finished with Gaist Crusher. Since it’s been a while since he’s last mention wanting to do a Nazo no Murasame-Jo reboot, I’m betting that would be his next project after Bayonetta 2.

  19. Firaxis on Pikmin
    WayForward on Metroid (sidescroller)
From Software on The Legend of Zelda
Ubisoft Montpellier on Super Mario Bros.
    Konami on 3D Metroid
    Criterion on F-Zero

What a bunch of fucking retards. At least put a developer on Pikmin that makes fucking RTS games. All Firaxis does are turn based games. Morons. Ubisoft on Mario? Fuck that. Konami how about no. Criterion no they make shit games.

  20. I would want co-development to go like this:
2D Mario with the guy that did Full Screen Mario
    The Legend of Zelda (console)-Bethesda
3D Metroid- Treyarch or Bungie (for multiplayer purposes)
    2D Metroid-Wayforward
Zelda Action game with Byrne-Platinum Games
    Zelda (handheld)-Capcom
    Star Fox-Treasure
    F-Zero-Criterion or Shinen
    Startropics III-Atlus
    Mother 4-Mistwalker
    Pokemon-Blizzard
    Pikmin-Firaxis
    Kirby-Sega
    Kid Icarus-Treasure or Platinum Games
    Punch Out!!-EA sports
    3D Donkey Kong-Rare
    Yoshi-Sega

  21. I would love to see the Rayman team make a NSMB game. Have stages where Mario has to walljump, slide and swing on vines while the stage around him crumbles would be great.

  22. Ubisoft on SMB? Criterion on F-Zero? I guess if you wanted those games to be so-so, then yea sure go for that. I’m not sure why the conversation of other developers handling Nintendo IPs should ever even be brought up. If anyone can do games, it’s Nintendo.
