    1. Because the “super shitty launch titles” are actually just two mediocre ones according to Metacritic, Knack and Contrast.

Killzone Shadow Fall is right at the average (74 vs. 73.4), Resogun is 10 points above (84), and most (if not all) multiplatform games released on PS4 with noticeably better versions than the Xbone ones.

Still a little surprised about PS4 making the top, but that probably has more to do with Nintendo consoles still receiving their fair share of kid-oriented licensed shovelware than anything. Since these are never to be accounted for to me, I’m sure that removing this stuff and getting to the ACTUAL games would make the Wii U’s average score get way above the PS4, where it should be.

And still, we should consider it a miracle that critics who are mostly American and British do recognize the Wii U has way better games in general than both Xboxes.

      1. Well isn’t it like having a little bit of school classes? If you have ,say, only 1 class your chances of getting a high GPA are greater as if you have many classes the chances reverse.

        1. Sure, but let’s not contaminate the actual numbers with poorly informed perception.

The average here for both console does NOT hinge on exclusives only, so it isn’t true that the PS4 had way fewer titles available as some claim.

Also, even distilling it down to exclusives, the Wii U may have more exclusives *now*, but at launch it was pretty much NSMBU, Nintendo Land, ZombiU and Funky Barn, unless I’m forgetting something else. Even if I am, that wouldn’t be a far cry from the four PS4 exclusives.

Not trying to defend Sony here, I don’t even have the PS4. Just saying that some perceptions are colored by the distorted view of the press – sometimes the same press that loves to ‘foresee’ the ‘doom’ of Nintendo. You should take it with a grain of salt when you read ‘but there are few games’.

Heck, some ‘analysts’ are still talking about the Wii U needing a ‘killer’ game. Man, after ZombiU, LEGO, NSMBU, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, the best console versions of Splinter Cell and Rayman, Wind Waker HD and now a GOTY candidate in Mario 3D World, what MORE these guys want? Answer: they don’t. They want headlines, and ‘a console has a bunch of great games, buy it’ is NOT a headline.

Sony is as much a ‘victim’ of this as Nintendo, I’m sure. The company is also Japanese, after all. Don’t doubt it for a second: the press will try to keep Microsoft afloat in this market at all costs, no matter how much shit MS puts out.

      2. it’s not all that surprising considering that during launch companies try to push the consoles and release as much high class software for them as possible

unfortunately nintendo failed to do the same for the launch of the wii u which is reflected in the rather low score of 68.6% for 2012

    1. REVIEW SYSTEMS BE GAMED> TRUST USER SCORE>
USER SCORE CLOSER TO ACTUAL GAME RATING.

LOOK AT DAT 9,9 FIFA and that 6.4 DIFFERENCe!

      FUCK E3

      1. Why would I trust the user score? Most of them are either fanboys or anti-fanboys. just look at DmC: Devil May Cry. It’s a good game but the fanbase are whiny, immature pricks and don’t like it cuz “MUH WHITE HAIR DANTE”.

  1. Not care too much for metacritic to be honest. but is nice to see all the wii u games we had this year. also, on gamerankings (a source i like more) wii u games did pretty good this year.

        1. SherlockWillFightBilbo

That’s just four that we know. Nintendo knows they need to deliver this year, and they had the idea of Wii U back in 2011. They have other titles in development. They can’t just show their whole hand :P

            1. *Shin Megami Tensei*
And Hyrule Warriors and a whole bunch of indies.

All in all there’s way more exclusives already announced for the Wii U in 2014 than for the PS4 or the Xbone.
But you know, lots of people have been brainwashed by the MS-sworn press…

    1. Swap “3rd party games” with “kid-oriented licensed shovelware” and I’m with you. That separates great games like LEGO City Undercover, Splinter Cell: Black List, Rayman Legends and The Wonderful 101 from the ACTUAL crap that drags the Wii U average score down.

    2. if they didn’t include 3rd party games, it would be the same…CAUSE WII U DOESN’T HAVE 3RD PARTY HAHAHAHAH, can i get a high five?can a brother relate?

  2. GTA didn’t deserve the praise it got. Its good game, but does it deserve the praise that Oot, majora, mario 64, batman, portal ect. A game should only get 10 or perfect score and game of the year if they did something that people will remember. GTA is fad, what ever happen gta 5 gameplay and story will be forgotten when gta6 comes

    1. Ok, here, I feel I must defend GTA, because to say it’s a fad is unfair and incorrect to say the least. GTA started on the PS1 with 3 titles, the original, the London in the past spin-off, and it’s sequal. GTA III is what gave it it’s fame, to be sure, and the 2 sequals on the PS2/Xbox solidified it with a great story and tons to do in order to get 100%. GTA IV kind of veered away from what made it (the series) great, true, but it did so in order to add realism to the series. GTA has spanned 3 console generations, and saying that it’s a fad is the KING of inaccuracies. Guitar Hero was a fad. Big hair was a fad. (And seriously, what were we THINKING?) GTA is the preeminent third-party AAA franchise of the modern era. It is to the 2000’s and beyond what Mega Man was to the 80’s and 90’s.

(Typed from my Wii U, name is my NNID.)

  3. All I can say is that the Wiiu has just been growing on me more and more. I like my PS4 and I can see the potential in it as a core console for the future. That being said, My WIiu an 3DS are providing me hundreds of times more thrills than PS4 is atm.

    1. Same here man! I got a vita for Christmas and I like the remote play feature, but it is still lacking in games, the ps4 that is. I like the vita and the free games from ps+, but the ps4 needs some more games to tear me from my Wii U and 3DS.

  4. Just goes to show that Nintendo have pumped some good titles at the times they needed them and people are realising the Nintendo’s legendary talent is still there.

I think of all the years I’ve played some quality titles from the big N and makes me smile that I bought the right hardware.

  5. That is great for Nintendo in terms of them making’ money, but take a closer look and you’ll see that was a Japan-only spike, a place where the the Xbox One isn’t even available. It’s still behind the Xbone and the PS4 in NA and Europe.

But I’ll still be rooting to see it surpass at least the Xbone. I’m throwing a party for everyone the day Microsoft gets out of the gaming business. I want competition, but not one capable of brute-forcing its way through sheer spending power while promoting the worst trends in gaming since it came along. Let the market become a knife fight between Sony, Nintendo and Valve. It’d be ideal.

              1. hehe true :) my drawing skills aren’t super amazing compared to my photoshop skills. However i acquired a wacom tablet for christmas and i plan to do some drawing with that :)

        1. I’ve stated numerous times that we don’t publish data from VG Chartz as it isn’t accurate. We only use official sources such as NPD, Media Create and GFK Chart Track.

          1. Uh Sickr… that what I was just telling him… its in the actual comment that you replied to, the first line

“its because VGChartz isn’t very accurate”

I think you replied to the wrong dood

  6. ps4 dominating as it should. wiiu’s not doing too bad though. hopefully this year will be nothing but great games. none of those horseshit titles that brought down the wii should see light of day on the wiiu. probably will unfortunately.

  7. Since 7/10 is the new 5/10, this makes sense. I think Nintendo can keep their average up since no third parties are developing games for the system.

  8. This only proves one thing. Game reviews are BS. The average game is around 7 when it should be 4-5. This is why fans get angry when their favourite gets 8 or less. The critics have to redefine their standards. 8´s should be rare, like the best game of the month, 9´s should be super rare, only few games a year and 10´s should be something we don´t see every year.

  9. If the Wii U didn’t have SHIT weighing it down like Wii Party U, Adventure Time Explore the Dungeon and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games, then Wii U would have a better score. Wii U had the most highly rated titles out of the next gen systems, but this publication expresses otherwise to the casual market who pay not attention…

    Nintendo really can never win…

  10. These ratings are not completely fair IMO.. as Kinect exclusive games tend to suck (Fighter Within), and the fact that there are less shovel ware titles released on PS4…but PS4 also has a lack of games (good or bad, for that matter)…with some games bringing up the score (Flower)…really Flower gets a 90%?!..that is like cheating…Injustice released again on PS4 (but not on Xbox One to help the score)…cheating again…these scores are skewed. Regardless, Wii U currently has the highest rated next gen title..
