Andy McNamara, Editor-In-Chief of Game Informer, has Tweeted that tomorrow’s Game Informer cover reveal will be for a surprise next-gen only title that will get gamers extremely excited. McNamara also went on to say that for those asking for the definition of Next Gen in that tease, you will find out platforms tomorrow. What do think this reveal will be for?

True, but I won’t lie, that new nvidea K1 chip should be in their next gen mobile device, next home system, and next game pad (or modern equivalent of the chip) it would really cool to have 1 chip/ design for 3 devices, and the cloud could enhance some of the other graphics.
However, Game Informer believes Wii U is a “next gen” (now current gen) console. They have said so on their website.

It’s not a fact. The Wii was released around the same time that the Xbox 360 and PS3 came out, therefore, it’s a last gen system. The Wii U is a successor to the Wii in the same way that the Xbox One and PS4 are the successors to their previous consoles. Because of this, by definition, the Wii U is indeed a current gen system. (Or “next-gen” if you wanna be that way). Anyone that disagree with this does not know proper English.

I figured that. I am curious if the follow-up to the Wii U will be backwards compatible with Wii U (and likely Wii) games. I guess we will find out in the next 5-6 (Hopefully) years.
I’m banking on the next Nintendo console to be a tablet device that has an HDMI out to be able to play games on TV if you want to.
I am hoping Nintendo releases an adapter for the Wii U Game Pad that allows the Game Pad to function over WiFi (almost typed WiiFi), which would allow players to play Off-TV from anywhere with a wireless connection.
As for your prediction about the next system being a tablet device, that would make backwards compatibility, one of Nintendo’s strong suits, impossible. I would rather they made a higher-end system that uses a traditional controller that has a peripheral that can be bought that can function as an auxillary system and screen.
Nintendo only goes back a generation with backwards compatibility i.e. you cannot play Gamecube games on the Wii U. Also, as far as home consoles only the Wii and Wii U have had backwards compatibility.
Since you can already download Wii U games anyway it would be just as well to download Wii U games to the new console and still be able to do everything you could before with the Wii U being it a tablet device
Nintendo has already said that they also are looking into cloud technology. I think that the port on the bottom of the Wii U GamePad is there for a future attachment that could make the GamePad a fully functional portable device.
Iwata’s strength is in the portable market and I think he has been trying to slowly but surely transition Nintendo away from a traditional console into a console/portable device. The Wii U is a test on what the 9th gen console will be IMO.
Finally, making it a tablet wouldn’t make it any less powerful and people really need to get off “power” nonsense. It’s not about horsepower, it’s about optimization and efficiency. When broken down the Wii U actually is on-par with the PS4 and XBOX One yet the console is much smaller. Not only that, the CPU and GPU of the PS4 and XBOX1 are tablet-based CPU’s and GPUs. So the precedent has already been set.
It’s not about what you are I want. It’s about what makes money. Kids, teenagres, adults, and senior-citizens are all using tablets now. There first of the big 3 that jumps on that will be the smartest. Microsoft already has the infrastructure in place with Windows Tablets, phone and SmartGlass. All they got to do is make XBOX One games available on all their mobile devices that are powerful enough to handle them and most tablets available now definitely can.
Hmmm. I wonder if this would be able to bridge the gap between video game console and legitimate PC. I would be all over a tablet that could be used as a video game console as well as a PC. At least one that would play Nintendo games legally.
Probably not because even though you can upgrade a tablet somewhat, you don’t have as much freedom to jury-rig it like a desktop. However if what Microsoft “claims” is true about what they plan on doing with the cloud then they would never need to upgrade the hardware.

I alays said what that port does. When N 64 first came out, it took a little more than a year to know the port for the N64 controller did more than justa rumble pak. Thats how Vita TV was introduced.
Also you know at the top of theGamePad? You can transfer the number of your walking steps to the GamePad when playing Wii Fit U. There’s no telling what unknown features Wii U or the GamePad can do. A little over a year ago Iwata said he wasn’t going to show any new features of the GamePad until the competition arrived. After all we have the NFC technology, an unknown port at the bottom and a wireless transmitter at the top. There’s no telling what else GamePad can do. Also 30% of still unknown data on the gpgpu. Its been a year and people still dn’t know. Hell 7 weeks ago we didnt even know Wii U was carrying 6 cores. How can an IT professional miss 2 additional CPUs and 3 more cores 11 months later?
the gamepad already does work using WLAN (or WIFI.. god how i hate that name)
however if you stream it over your local router (which you would have to do as per your suggestion) the gamepad will be subjected to huge lag
Why would they need an HDMI out? It would likely use wireless, sorta like chromecast. I HIGHLY doubt they would go tablet, controller ftw!!! I also highly doubt tablet bc then games would be hacked and played for free across all tablet devices.

Next gen has nothing to do with hardware or power just means next generation of that developers console duh! Besides the ps3 was a ps3 for like 2 years as the ps4 well be a ps3 far awhile takes time for developers to get seto the hardware. My dual core processor laptop cam smoke the ps3 becuz the processor is new and made by intel not phony. So it all comes down to how the hardware is used ive never been a graphics whore I love gameplay more. Im enjoying classics way more at this time and those are not graphical but they are still damn fun. Now as for value I prefer nintendo due to quality and their classic stuff holds a higher value in collectors eyes. My friends had to return their ps4s due to bad quality they would play a game for 10 minutes then shut ffgf like they over heated. Still a kong ways to go b4 they improve so ill still wait there are tonss of ps4s in our stores and louds of ones as well. The wii u sold out at gamestop around here and our local specailty store bullmoose. Still np games for ps4 I wanna play yet. And I wont huh an xbox anything I never liked microsux.
If it’s not server-side gaming, I will not care. Server-side gaming is the only thing I care about. 100% impossible to hack, 100% best graphics, 100% peace. There are no limits other then frame rates. Loading games will not even exist.

I don’t know man? I don’t trust (or like) GameInformer magazine. Every time I look at an issue, it seems to be mostly nothing but Playstation and Xbox garbage throughout the issues.
