Miyamoto Reconfirms Super Smash Bros Will Be Released By End Of 2014

Shigeru Miyamoto has reconfirmed that Super Smash Bros will arrive before the the end of 2014.  Miyamoto wouldn’t offer any further information, but simply said it will be released before the end of the year. Whether that’s just in Japan remains to be seen.

    1. Someone in Nintendo (in germany) said it would be out in the Spring, but since we already have a Mario Kart release date for the end of May (before we got an ssb release date) I’m guessing it’s safe to say it will be out this summer

    1. @Croxynd, knowing nintendo they would and that would be their best option, summer would weaken the sales and mario kart 8 would last til smash bros comes out so in the end nintendo would say “today was a good day” i really hope they do release it by x-mas 2014 so a) samsh bros would be polished and ahve everything sakurai wanted in it and b) it would be the best x-mas present for us and nintendo (sale-wise).

  1. Well rushed or not (by the time the game comes out) he can compensate lack of content with some dlc so he doesn’t have to worry if he doesn’t finish in time. Dlc for smash will keep the game alive for the whole generation

      1. Neither are a lot of children. But DLC would be great, even if it is just songs, stages, and possibly some characters.

          1. You must be a mindless nintendrone then if you think that. Weather you like it or not it will be a fantastic idea because the game WILL be incomplete when it comes out just like brawl, melee, and 64 were. Dlc for smash can add costumes, stages, MORE characters that are going to be cut due to development time restraints so there’s that, and also you wouldn’t be able to provide a well valid argument as to why he SHOULDN’T add OPTIONAL dlc for those interested so there’s that too

            1. Characters no. Cause we don’t need more then 40 characters. Can’t just let any character in. Very few are worthy.

          2. DLC is something Nintendo does really well. If they charge for it, generally it is at a good price point. It would be the best idea for smash bros. Your comment is suspicious.

  2. Damn I was really hoping more toward April/June.
Or they could do it like two weeks after E3, so they can have an awesome show with Smash Bros., but it still seems a bit late

  3. That’s pretty annoying. Nintendo was so unprepared for this console. They knew they were going to launch a new console…they didn’t think it would be necessary to have a smash title released in a decent time frame!? Seriously, if Smash comes out 2 years after Wii U’s launch that is one of the DUMBEST things Nintendo has ever done.

    1. You talk as if Sakurki wasn’t working on kid Icarus at the time and it has nearly been in 1 and a half years in development….They started in late 2012, 1 year is not enough for a game like this. He Is a GAME DEVELOPER!!! He can’t work on smash all his life. Be lucky, brawl was supposed to be the last one In the series. That’s why he started work on K.I.U instead.

      1. Brawl wasn’t supposed to be the last in the series. Sakurai just said that they did so much and added all they wanted that they “could” make it the last in the series and they’d have no regrets.

Bintendo eon’t let Sakurai make ANY Smash Bros the last of the series. It is too big of a franchise to end. They want the money.

      2. Yeah. Because Sakurai wants the series to end with bad reviews and shit wifi. Your implying Sakurai doesn’t want to improve what he had developed in Brawl.

    2. Anyways. Knowing Nintendos standards as an empire of Video Games. Releasing SSB4 for Wii U to be the consoles savior is very pathetic. They will need to release another game to make the console worth the consider to buy. A relaunch of the Star Fox series would be fantastic.

      1. Good. I can’t wait that long. Hopefully it is released soon. If not soon, they better have a demo available for a good 3-5 months prior to release to tie me over.

  4. wellll here is our answer better late than never… but nintendo needs something besides mk8 to hold wii u owners.. Hope X comes out soon!

  5. Thank god. Last thing we need is a well received series to be rushed by. Retarded fans. I also hope the game gets delayed a lot.

    1. NO! The Wii U NEEDS Smash Bros released in the same year as Mario Kart. Smash Bros has to happen and it has to happen fast. Want someone to blame for having to push production for the game?- Blame Nintendo itself for putting itself in the position where it needs to churn out games faster than the needed time for production.

If Wii U was a success I guarentee Smash Bros would be out in Spring 2015, but Wii U is a bust so Smash development will be done as quickly as possible.

      1. Agreed, any content that was rushed they could fix (or add new characters and stages) using cheap optional DLC after the game’s release

  6. I wish it came out before e3. what else does nintendos first parties on wii u have besides dk and mario kart before that event? i bet a crappy mini game collection

  7. By the end of 2014. Well that pretty much confirms it’s delayed. Great just what the wii u needed, delayed games.

  8. If Nintendo was smart, they would release Smash Bros 4 Wii U this year around E3 or a little after and then PUSH Super Smash Bros 4 3DS to Christmas or even better… Spring 2015.

3DS owners won’t want to wait until next year to play Smash so they’ll be forced to buy the Wii U version earlier which would be better for the home console.

No matter when the 3DS version launches, it will sell well. The same isn’t true for the Wii U version.

    1. I actually wouldn’t mind that. It’s risky to release it during the holiday season since there will be a lot of competition. Their best bet is to release it at around February next year so that there won’t be many other games around.

  9. Sorry, but if the statement isnt coming directly from sakurai then I wont take this as a solid reassurance.

Something tells me, the game wont see the light of day this year.

    1. This guy is freakin hilarious. I seriously can’t tell if he’s for real or not – either case we all should be this M.A.D at Nintendo***

  10. My God who still thinks its not coming this year? It will come everywhere fairly close together. Hell might even be a global launch like Pokemon. Japan wont get it months in advance.

  11. Nintendo is known for games that recieve critical acclaim. I wish all these morons would stop complaining when they need to realize that the longer the wait the better the game. Always think about Sonic 2006 when it comes to waiting, it came out when it did due to a rushed holiday expected launch. I love Sega and apologize for mentioning that game, but it’s the perfect example of what happens when developers try releasing a game before it’s ready. Nintendo never felt that kind of pressure, which is why their games are always awesome.

  12. I guess I’m gonna connect the Wii U to the Xbox One for now then, I mean you never know – a new game could come out sometime, right? Right?

Yeah, let’s hope so at least***

  13. whatever just as long as I get to play it and put crazy hours into it. And just as long as it’s as good as melee was and better than brawl. (Before anyone replies any negative comments nah don’t go make love to your left hand lucie)

  14. By the end…Nintendo usually sticks to that line. I imagined a mid/end of summer, to a Fall release. Now i’m thinking a december release. Of course, that’s if there aren’t any delays.

  15. I am willing to wait that long as long as the game is COMPLETELY WELL MADE. We have watch dogs, bayonetta, mario kart and of course X to deal with.
