In a possibly bizarre set of events, Ubisoft has abandoned the Watch Dogs trademark, sparking numerous rumours about the state of the long-awaited game. GameSpot points out that although they’ve canceled the its main Watch Dogs trademark they still have five trademarks for Watch Dogs. The publication says that Ubisoft’s abandonment of the main trademark could possibly mean that they are planning to change the name of the game, though that just sounds odd.
Update: Ubisoft Montreal has stated on Twitter that the game is being polished as we speak.
@griffmeister69 @gooner4life_uk I can assure you that Watch_Dogs is still being polished as we speak. cc. @Ubisoft

That’s really weird… All the strange information coming about the game is starting to worry me…
Yah… there’s a lot of weird and suspicious news about this game… it’s getting me kinda worried too.
Please.. PLEASE don’t cancel this game.
They’re getting hacked.
oh, the irony!
Assassin’s Creed V: Black Hack
0-0
Oh gawd NOOOO!!
lol
I hope its cancelled
The real trademark has an underscore in it – they’re not changing the name.
Also this trademark that has been abandoned has no links to Ubisoft, nothing visible to the public anyway. This could very easily be a trademark from somebody else who has had a letter from Ubisoft…
Oh god. They’re gonna make it an Assassin’s creed game.
Doubt it.
first
so close
Not even…you were four minutes behind the first post…
well a few seconds off of 4 minutes but still no where near close
probably ……new name.
hopefully they don’t cancel it.
This just in: Ubisoft to confirm name change from “Watchdogs: to “Witnessed Cats”
Jehova’s Witnesses
Playing as a Jehova’s witness might be interesting.
Game about dodging Jehova’s witnesses would be educating.
Seen Mammals
So it isn’t just the Wii U version that may be in jeopardy, the whole damn game is. Weird. I was hoping to get this game.
Hopefully the rename it to “Not Another Canceled Third Party Title.”
Well maybe they just got a little too ambitious with the game, but still I was waiting for this game to be released for a while, even more especially so because it was being released on the Wii U, or at least it was supposed to. Hope it doesn’t get cancelled and is still going to see a Wii U release.
Yeah, I can’t imagine how bad the reaction would be from the gaming world if Ubisoft canned the game, especially since they spent so much money into development.
It’s way to far in development to cancel it. Name change or not I still hope it’s the same game and comes out. Ubisoft is like the only 3rd party team that makes great games.
Rockstar Games. That’s it. But too bad GTAV wasn’t released on WiiU.
What the heck is going on with this game? Please no more delays, rumors, etc. I really need this game! Ok! Ugh! There…. I just had to let that out. XD
I agree with that, they made such a marketing into it and after all these years…3-4….. we got tired listen about watch dogs… its old food now and it looks old compared to other games
You mean old DOG food….
Sounds more like the game is going to be canned…. Wouldn’t surprise me because the game is TOO original for Ubisoft.
They spent like 60M$ on it… canceling it would be a big waste of money.
Its a publish campain, cant wait for the game, they had been hacked!
This game is easily going to be one of the best of 2014. Of course Ubisoft isn’t going to cancel it. Especially with how much money they’ve already spent on it.
If this game is Cancelled …
I wouldnt buy any next gen consoles !!!
Sorry but WiiU is a Fail !
PS4 is a PS3 version 2.0 !
And Xbone … Well still have Killer Instinct … So maybe …
But Well see :-)
Theres not been an instance in which this game has been shown that it’s ‘dynamic’ environment wasnt staged or demonstrated by people that knew exactly what to push and exactly where to look. Even now, after delays and polish, nothing is saving a game that has an openworld thats got absolutely nothing going for it but details that stop being appreciated ten minutes in.
Look at thing, play cutscene is not a gameplay mechanic, its a colossal misstep. Goodluck, ubi. Fix splinter cell.
