Adventure_Thru_8-Bit_Land

R & P Studios has announced Adventure Thru 8-Bit Land exclusively for the Nintendo eShop on Wii U. Described as a retro side-scroller, the title tells the story of a princess who was taken to the land of 8-Bit as a result of a continuing war between 8-Bit Land and 16-Bit World. The game’s protagonist is tasked with saving the princess and putting an end to the “war on graphics.” The release of Adventure Thru 8-Bit Land is scheduled for this year.

    1. I wonder how these guys get a license to develop for Nintendo. Never heard of r&p studios and there is no background info on their site. The reason I bring this up is because a buddy of mine is working on a game and steam charges $100 to put it up on greenlight. We figured if it gets greenlighted then maybe Nintendo would let him bring it to wiiU.

      1. If you use an engine compatible with HTML5 or one of Nintendo’s other supported engines, you can easily port it onto Wii U and it can get onto the eshop easily through that. I’ve done a lot of research on this, your friend might want to look up these engines and he should request a dev kit if his engine is compatible! :)

      2. We’re using Unity. I say we because I’ve helped him code quiet a bit from enemy behavior, to camera behavior, etc. It’s easy to port with Unity but you can’t just decide to put it on wiiU. Nintendo needs to give you a license to develop for their consoles. The game’s turning out pretty cool too. Still has a long ways to go though.

      3. If it gets greenlighted then it’s already a lot better than some Wii U games (I really don’t think Funky Barn or Sports Connection would get greenlighted…) But yeah, Nintendo has emphasized that, with the Wii U, they are making it easier for indie developers to publish on the Wii U. Plus, due to a clear lack of Wii U games, indie games are proving to be very popular on the Wii U. So, yeah, he should definitely try to get in contact with Nintendo!

      4. Yea those games wouldn’t stand a chance on greenlight but there’s money behind those games. Indie dev’s don’t have such luxuries. He hasn’t tried contacting Nintendo as it seems that you need to have some projects to show off before they consider giving you a license. Getting greenlighted would probably open a lot of doors.

  1. The more the merrier. People praise Sony for having indie support on the PS4 and I have to say Wii U is getting a substantial amount of indie support as well. Some exclusives, some multiplaftorm. If Sony is praised, then Nintendo should be as well.

  2. Well, this is…
um…well…if not for that picture I’d think this was interesting.
I’ll hold off on further judgements until I see actual gameplay footage I guess. Never know. *shrugs*

      1. Don’t get me wrong, there is TONS of good indie games, I playing helluva a lot of them on PC.
But this is.. free website, super cheaply made poster (hello standard photoshop gradients), “8 bit” style.. It’s really looks like shovelware to me.
There are great pixelart games like ShovelKnight out there. But this thing really doesn’t seem be any close.
We will see, of course. But it is my first impression.

      2. For sure I agree 100% that this poster looks extremely amateurish and it worries me if the same people that made this poster are coding the game lol. If they are as talented coding as they are with digital imaging then were getting flappy bird on wiiU.

  3. Yup, it’s great to see lots of indie developers showing the Wii U some love. Personally, I’m intrigued by this game’s plot. It’s quirky and should be interesting. Maybe some levels will have 8-bit and 16-bit graphics mixed together. Maybe some levels will have NES style music while others will have more advanced Genesis or SNES music and sound effects. I hope it ends up being good!

  4. The poster is awful, but the plot is interesting. Maybe it will be decent once some footage is shown, though I’m glad we’re getting more attention from devs – even if the games are not the best.

  5. the images of this and mad men (american) football AE thing seem like competing for the ugliest game art of the year, or really bad trolling

  6. i dont play and like indie games.
okay limbo and journey was great but usueal its crap.
this games sounds funny from the idea.
    war between 8bit and 16 bit :-)

  7. If it wasn’t for that picture I probably wouldn’t think this game is would be lackluster like the other inde games on wii u.

Can some explain to me why all of a sudden these studios are producing indie games like crazy for the wii u
