Miyamoto Says The Year Of Luigi Has Officially Ended

Legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto has taken to Miiverse to declare that the Year of Luigi has finally come to an end. To commemorate the Year of Luigi, Nintendo also created a special webpage which is filled with Miiverse art and comments. It’s worth checking out and you can view it here.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your warm comments for Luigi!

We selected a few of the comments and placed them on our website. Just select the internet browser icon or the link at the end of this post to go to the page and have a look!

Well, ahem…now, without further ado…

I hereby declare the Year of Luigi closed!

Thank you all so very much for your kind support over the course of the year!

Even though the Year of Luigi has come to a close, I hope you will continue to cheer on Luigi. Thank you!

      1. This was a sad campaign to get Nintendo fans excited about a character nobody really cares about. rehash 101… Deploy marketing
of Ip character and make them care about something they can live without

      1. U like posting this, ya no this is bad for Sony not Nintendo, no one ever talks about Sony development, Microsoft and Nintendo are just fine, and on track, dispute what the media tells you. Its Sony that’s struggling. What Nintendo showed off with its Mario Vs dk game shows off how easy it is to port code over to Wii U. Meaning better stuff for Microsoft means better ports for Nintendo. Mean while Sony is left in the cold

  1. anything but a year of another Mario/Mario related character.

though something tells me Yoshi is next………………………………….
shoulda been year of Zelda/samus imo.

    great year anyway!

  2. They focused more on promoting luigi than the wii u. I hope they dont continue to waste money on a ”year of” character again. Some things like the nslu train in chicago was smart to promote the game atleast. Luigis really popular to begin with. Of you know mario you know luigi

  3. watch how there going to rehash mario more with year of peach or bowser. at this point for wiiu expect rehashes and kiddy games for wiiu.

  4. Hmmm… don’t really notice a difference. It’s almost like there never really was a year of Luigi…

They could have done sooo much more.

    1. Exactly just saying it’s the year of luigi and not releasing anything good about it doesn’t mean shit. The only good thing was Luigis mansion but so what? Albw was good too should it have been the year of link also?

    1. No, you fool! Year of Nintendo! NINTENDO!!!!

Year of 3DS I mean…. cause 3ds sells and stuff u no wut ih meen?

  5. The year of Luigi never really made a whole lot of sense. I mean, if it was just to celebrate his 30th anniversary, then that means it was Mario’s anniversary as well. So, why wasn’t it labeled, “the year of the Super Mario Bros.”?

  6. A Luigi themed Wii U would’ve been cool. Idk just do something cool for Wii U. I’ve been playing my 360 more than my Wii U and that makes me sad. I know SSB4 and MK8 will be all types of fun but I bought a Wii U day one and the first MUST PLAY games are coming almost 2 years later? Smh. Feeling like I should’ve gotten a 3DS XL, or waited and got a PS4/Xbox One first. Especially considering it was $50 more expensive when i bought it, plus i had to pay $60 for NSMBU day one along with other games, but now NSMBU comes bundled…

  7. Finally, I mean I love luigi but this went on for too long. They better not make any more years of (unless it’s the year of samus)
