Damon Baker, the Senior Manager of Marketing at Nintendo’s of America’s Licensing department, has told Siliconera at this year’s GDC event that they are looking at bringing the Unity game engine to the Nintendo 3DS. The Unity engine has made it easier for independent developers to bring their titles to Wii U, so Baker was asked whether the engine will come to the Nintendo 3DS.
“We’ve had those discussions and we are definitely looking at that,” Baker replied.
“Our priority was to get the Wii U build [of Unity] up and done and ready. Because we need a test environment for it, it’s taken a while for Unity to get finalized on Wii U, so that we can actually test against it. So that has been made available now and that is why we’ve got all of these [game] candidates waiting in the wings that are just going through the submission process at this point.”
“Now, we can move on to other platforms and see how we can make those compatible,” he continued, “either with Unity or with additional middleware providers as well.”
“So, 3DS is definitely an exciting platform for us, because we’ve got a huge install base, and we want to take advantage of that. We’ve got a lot of developers that want to take advantage of it. So, we’re working towards that as well. But nothing to announce at this time.”

Ps4 is awesome! Its. A great console and any nintendo fan who thinks it isnt really is a fanboy. The point is, each of the companies are trying to find something to increase their earnings. But both nintendo and sony need to save their dying sections.
A console is only as good as it’s games. So you can’t tell me the PS4 is a good console until you actually play some. For all you know the games will suck.

Have you ever imagined playing an old classic that you loved and wanted it to be online to show off your skills or even play with friends and family that live to far away to play the game with them. Imagine Super Mario World with online and voice chat, Mario kart with online and voice chat or even super smash bros! from N64 with online multiplayer and voice chat the list can go on and on this can be something that I know will be a hit! We together can make this happen if we show nintendo that we really want this! This would be amazing!
WiiU runs at a cooool 30-50 watts. You want a toaster, buy an xBox360. That thing will burn your house down. I’ve yet to see if xB1 will be the fire hazard the 360 was.

Wow, this is great news, especially considering I just downloaded unity and plan on learning to make games using the engine. I would love to make games for 3DS, I hope Unity comes to the system!

Well I was helping a friend out not too long a go with some coding stuff but now I just started on my own project. Problem is I can’t work on it full time like he can. It won’t be anything huge like I would like. Working on some fighting game controls right now. So far so good.
I wonder, is it easy to use?
It’s very easy to use. Do you have any basic knowledge with game development? There’s a common misconception with game engines. For example, you don’t build the game from the ground up in Unity. You have to make your character models in another program then export them into Unity. Same thing with the coding, you write your code in another program and Unity reads that code. Unity is kind of what brings everything together and make’s it work. It also handles lighting, physics, etc.
Cool. Unity3D and the IDE (MonoDev) are pretty awesome, easy to get into while still being powerful.
But you can make simple prototypes or very very simple games with just those two (if you wanted) by using the built-in primitive objects and GUI (except for audio which still has to be imported).
Yea for example right now I am using capsules to represent my characters. A hadouken is being represented by a sphere.
