Nintendo can apparently restore the downloaded content of consumers who lost their Nintendo 3DS. A Club Nintendo member who misplaced his handheld contacted the company to see if there was a way to regain his Nintendo eShop downloads. Nintendo responded to the user and offered to help him transfer his data to a new system. Read an excerpt from Nintendo’s response to the user below:
Thanks for contacting us. I’m sorry to hear that your Nintendo 3DS is missing. We can help you transfer your data to a new system. Normally I would refer you to our website, however, the Nintendo 3DS data transfer issue you inquired about can only be addressed by speaking with you directly. We will need to verify some information in order to assist you, and due to that information’s sensitive nature we cannot do so through email. Therefore, once you have a new system we ask that you please give us a call.

From my understanding Nintendo never had a way of giving you back your digital purchases if you lost them say by getting your system stolen or your 3DS dying. I’m more inclined to believe that the post is fake.
Nintendo doesn’t have the right type of account system yet. He said he would’ve normally referred him to Nintendo’s website. This guy only got lucky. Kind of like I did when Nintendo got my Wii U and said they’ll fix it for free when it had issues. (It’s still there btw.. My poor Wii U. :(

Anyway, I see what you were saying. It does look pretty clear, but it would seem that his comment did not mean what it appeared to.
I never claimed Nintendo didn’t do it before. In other words, I was saying that either one of us could have had an experience out of the norm. I know others who have had their items restored and I know others who haven’t been able to or have had difficulty doing so, like myself – more frequently, the latter though.
I’m glad that Nintendo’s policies are changing for the better, but my personal experience shortly after the 3DS came out, was not a good one at all. Until Nintendo learns how to make unified accounts (I know, they’re getting there) where we can redownload items without this whole process, I won’t purchase downloads again. ‘Tis all.
Side note to Jaded – I don’t know why you say I’m an “arrogant a-hole”. Is it because I avoid getting involved in stupid debates with trolls or unreasonable fanboys? I’m not *better* than anyone else on here nor do I think I’m more important, I’m not one of the many people on here who spew filth and insults, but I just wont waste my time on certain things. The douchebag I spoke to never offered anything like that, so I lost hundreds of dollars in downloads from my 3DS and Wii. *reasons why I will never purchase digital downloads on Nintendo systems until they sort this “linked to console” nonsense*
Agreed, they fought me *to death* on restoring the content I lost due to a similar situation as above, so I find this a bit ridiculous and disheartening as a long-time customer going back to the test market launch of the original NES.

Yeah! I am. I haven’t been able to play too much (I think I got to 1-3) because of work and family, but I’m really enjoying it. It feels more like the DK I remember from those SNES days, but with a modern twist.
I’m not sure that I like the gamepad for it though. I’m using the D-pad configuration and sometimes it can be a little uncomfortable. But other than that, it’s a pretty good game. I can’t wait to get into it more when I have the time.
I use the pro control feels like a dream, trust me dude once u get into world 2 game starts feeling like diddy’s kong quest. Plus the music is amazing. bosses are best in the series ( dkc2 had some good ones but nothing mind blowing amazing) this game is worth the price, though I only payed half because I traded NSMBU for it.
Yeah, I would love to get the pro controller but I can’t spend any money on that for now. I guess I’ll get used to using the gamepad for it.

Wait, I always thought as long as you had your username/password you could access your account, and thus, your downloads?
Your purchases are ironically not tied to your account as they should have been, but are tied to the console they were bought on, unless you do a system transfer, which obviously would move the licenses to the new system. But if you lose your 3DS then you are usually out of luck and Nintendo doesn’t have to give you your games back, as they are not really yours, but belong to your 3DS, you see? Really stupid.

Thank you for taking your sweet time Nintendo. My PS Vita was stolen sometime back, but when I recieved a new one…lo and behold, my games and saves were easily procured. I have no idea why my 3DS nessecitates my tying an account to a memory card without security.

Eerrrm…This isnt something new. I have done it before. Of course you need the SN of your lost or stolen 3DS and the SN of the one you want to transfer to.
I got my Ambassador Games like a week ago from my Launch 3DS which I sold like 2 years ago and the eshop games I had on a 3DS XL that I lost on my new 3DS XL.
Maybe they figured out a way after the nintendo IDs were unified to transfer data?

I was in quite a similar situation once. I deleted my NNID not knowing it would erase my games as well (this is when it first came out on the 3DS). I contacted Nintendo Support and within about two days my games were restored to my new NNID.
From my experience the Nintendo’s customer service is pretty good and I was glad that everything went well in the end.
I’m glad they’re willing to do this, especially since systems, especially 3DS, can easily be lost, stolen or broken. If you get someone refusing to fix it, just speak to a supervisor. They’re gonna want those good reviews, all call centers need them to keep their employees employed. Good to know it IS something possible for them to do.
I contacted Nintendo about getting back my eShop games back in February. They got back to me almost 2 weeks later. When I heard back from them, they told me that I had to call them, so I did. After about half an hour on the phone giving them my information, I was told that I would have my eShop games back in 1 to 3 days. A month later, and still nothing. I sent them an email about 2 weeks ago, and they still haven’t replied. Say what you want about MS and Sony, but at least they don’t make you go through a huge, tedious process to get back your digital games. You know what you have to do? Sign into your account on your new Xbox 360 or PS3 and just download the games! Nintendo can learn a few things from their rivals.

Laste year s gang stole My car with My 3ds inside, My gf gave me her 3ds then I call Nintendo and they restore all my data (including eshop) to my new 3ds they just needed the serial of the stolen device, the serial of the new one, my club Nintendo user and two day. Nintendo’s gr8
This is nothing new. Had my 3DS stolen two years ago and they moved everything to a new XL that I bought a few months later, including the Ambassador Program. It’s nice that they do it though! Just not news.

Maybe every once in a while, someone gets unlucky, but as long as you are not trying to screw Nintendo over, most times you can get your shit back.
I lost my 3DS in a car wreck (that nearly killed me.)
Nintendo gave me over $100 in eShop credit to redownload my games. I was very grateful and it boosted my relationship with Nintendo quite a bit.
Nintendo is really late for the account system they mentioned when the Wii u was revealed. I just hope they can get this sort out because I agree with Simply G on digital downloads.
This is new, though. This happened to be about a month ago & it took less than 48hrs to have all my digital downloads restored(unfortunately, my Animal Crossing 3DSXL was stolen). It should probably be noted that what IS required is the seriel # to both your misplaced/lost/stolen 3ds and your NEW 3ds

they never once helped me last year, when my step brother’s son stole my 3ds XL, with all my games on it, and I tried to get my dad to get it back from him but, he was being a punk about it, since I dont know where he live, I took it up with nintendo. then they told me to get a police report, I made one but that cop who was supposed to make it, didn’t, so I tried to reason with nintendo by telling them about my games on my club nintendo account but, they still refused to give me my games. 3 weeks ago I called them up again, but this time, I was asking for questions, and they said I can get my games back, I was overjoyed, now I will never leave my 3ds in my room while bastards are visiting again.
This is already possible since 3DS launch, and it’s possible also for Wii U consoles and games.

They did this for me on my Wii U not too long ago. Sold my old one since there was a lack of games i wanted to play at launch and I recently got my new Zelda Windwaker edition. I phone called them and after a 30 min phone call I got all my games that were digital and even my wallet money back on my new Wii U.
