Iwata Says “Wii U Is Not Over Yet” More Unannounced Titles To Be Announced

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that the Wii U isn’t going anywhere yet despite only managing to shift 9.2 million units since launch in 2012. Iwata told Japanese news publication Sankei that there are many more unannounced titles in development for the platform. So yeah, the Wii U isn’t going anywhere. Hopefully we will see some of these unannounced games at E3 in Los Angeles this June.

“Wii U is not over yet. I want to continue to build on playing on people’s high expectations [for the system].”

Thanks, gamerprince1999

        1. games the Wii U still needs.

pokemon snap 2 (open world, more areas to explore and a more natural feel to photography)

Metroid (games for both 3DS and Wii U, supports amiibo and cross platform DLC/ game saves) 3DS version should be a side scroller with FPS moments. and the Wii U version should just be FPS.

animal crossing (focus on DLC, and online gameplay, bringing in a focus around economy and building a city/town and working with towns that your online friends have created.

eternal darkness (for NEW 3DS and Wii U) focus on second screen and a more traditional FPS, but with touch and motion controls mixed in.

ice climbers (a semi open world game that is a lot like skyrim in scope, but involves treasure hunting and other side quests as well as references to mythology related to mountains.

almost every system has 2 Zelda games (not including remakes) it would be nice to see the new Zelda game get a large scope DLC pack that is basically a whole new game that adds on to the current one.

a pokemon stadium app that links up with X/Y As/Or and basically is just a way to battle/trade online and use pokemon on your game/pokemon bank to fight in HD.

a partnership with wizards, and kunomi to make games for magic the gathering, yu-gi-oh and pokemon trading card game. these games well have support for a second gamepad and be exclusive to the wii U. allowing you to have your hand of cards displayed on your gamepad and then animations happen on the TV. also supports new amiibo cards and possibly a card reader. (save your deck to an amiibo so you can battle at a friends house with all your cards)

lots of new IP that focus on touch and motion controls. as well as either cross buy or 2 versions of the game (mobile and living room)

migrage the “wii” branding to mean family friendly games, and lets non “wii” games be a focus just as much as family friendly content. let the QOL division take over for games that are educational (cooking mama, brain age, art academy wii fit)
let 3 different divisions take over for game development (Wii, QOL, standard) as well as a studio (of new employees) that focus on updating old softwear/games to modern systems (updated look, gameplay, and features such as online or miivers)

that’s what I would lay out as things the Wii U / new 3DS need to say this system had a good run. these things I think can allow the system to at least meet some good standards and goals. in addition more apps would always be nice.

          1. I agree with everything you said except new I.P.’s that focus on motion, and touch controls. I’m a little tired of the gimmicks, and gyro controls has never worked well for any game I can think of. Touch controls should be for tablet games, not triple A blockbusters.

          2. Open world, open world, open world. Is this going to be the fps of the coming gens? I am actually ok with that.

          3. I will agree to everything but two parts. I don’t really want an open world for Pokemon Snap 2. Maybe a track maker and by that I mean you get to make the track before you go into the stage. I would be okay with that but it wouldn’t be the same for me if it changed it that much.

I also do not want FPS in my side scrolling Metroid. So take that out of the 3DS game and I am sold on all these options even if they are not for me.

Also include a F-Zero game even if it isn’t something I want. Even a remake of GX with online play would be good.

          4. Nintendo’s not listening though. We asked for gamecube games on Wii U and give us Wii games on a backwards capable console anyway.

          5. I agree with everything except the DLC parts and your whole Animal Crossing concept. I don’t want Zelda to not come with everything from the start, because not only would that give Nintendo a bad name but would make a lot of fans angry. Fantasy Life for example came with a GREAT DLC pack, but at the same time it should’ve been added from the get go even if that means its price was raised. DLC in Animal Crossing is fine, but by focusing on it you’re basically cutting out tons of content from the game card. And I’m probably the only one against this but I DO NOT want a game that requires me to wait on my friend to do this or can’t do this because I don’t have a friend to help me out. That type of crap can stay on mobile apps.

          6. Ridley, the Angel of Death

*just reads the Metroid & Eternal Darkness parts* No to FPS moments in Metroid for 3DS. No to FPS Metroid game for Wii U. I want to play another 3D third person Metroid game; an option to play in first person would be fine, though. No to Eternal Darkness becoming a FPS! I’d rather NEVER see a new Eternal Darkness than see it become yet another FPS! Now an option to play in first person would be fine.

          7. Ugh, no Pokemon Snap period. Give us a Jurassic Park Snap game, if you like that idea. Also get Madden games on the Wii U. You know how cool it would be to manage your fave plays, make substitutions, etc on the Gamepad? Wii U hardware has potential, Nintendo is just ignoring it. Also, give us an Earthbound game…Ness could be cool coming back to Nintendo. They could also bring back BanjoKazooie…I’m getting tired of playing Donkey Kong XLVIII and being reminded of that game without actually having it. Stop recycling the same titles over and again when you have so many other amazing franchises out there. No one wants to play Mario World 467 or Luigi Bros 365. Remember you have others.

Plus…please please PLEASE BE A METROID GAME. This needs to happen immediately.

        1. sherlockwillfightbilbo

Yeah honestly. Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Xenoblade… They’re done with everything except Metroid and Kid Icarus, both of which I desperately want.

    1. It is good news…but we have heard this like a dozens times. Enough getting our hopes up, tell us what is coming. How do you expect to sell consoles with this constant beating around the bush…And know I am tired of waiting till E3 to hear a years worth of news and waiting another to to go through it all again!!

    1. I don’t think Golden Sun is gonna be on consoles at all. Hopefully on 3DS. I’d love to see another Golden Sun game! I’m trying not to give up hope on that series but I’m really close

      1. He didn’t say that. He just said they’re trying to come up with the right control scheme for a new F-Zero

        1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

When Lord Miyamoto says that they are trying to come up with ideas, then he means that they’ve already come with ideas and are at alpha stage right now with F-Zero…

          1. Oh I already know he’s trolling us. He did the same thing with Star Fox and look what happened. Miyamoto is just making our anticipation rise, that’s all. He’s a genius

  1. Nintendo Lieutenant Cereza

It worries me that he HAS to announce that the Wii U isn’t over yet. Since I’ve owned the console for 3 years, I would think it’s safe to assume they’ll be making games on it another 3 years. It’s like he reads follows Patcher or something…

        1. It’s certainly unfortunate. I’d actually prefer them to kick Wii U to the curb and release a console equal to or greater than PS4 and XBOne in 2016 or 2017.

          1. If they are going to release another console, it HAS to be more powerful than ps4 and xbone. Nobody will buy it otherwise.

      1. probably because your not listening to them. the head of xbox is always talking about the future of xbox and what their doing to adapt/evolve. in fact he was just at the windows 10 event talking about directX 12, windows 10 on xbox one, gaming with hololense and being able to stream games to windows 10 (pc and phone)

    1. Yea, I agree. He says it like the Wii U has been out for a long time already. Hell, it’s only been two years ffs! And he says, “we are not finished with the Wii U YET”. I didn’t like the word “yet”. Makes it sound like they are almost finished with the Wii U.

  2. It better be over. Ive spent to much damn money on games and accessories for my Wii u. My Wii u is like my first damn child. In till a new comes out I won’t abandon it.

    1. True… But they did not come out with those games until a few months after they released the Mario games that everybody already had. By that time people were already starting to lose interest in the Wii U. they recently started releasing games that are actually really creative and original, like super captain toad, Hyrule warriors, and even bringing back old games Ocarina of Time and super smash brothers. People started losing interest in the system just when it was gaining some steam… It’s too bad. I love Nintendo, and I’m actually going to buy a system next week. I sincerely hope they start listening to customers and stop being so stubborn.

  3. I’ll believe it when I see it. They’ve said this for the past two year and yet there’s a Wii U games drought.

Just saying it like it is.

    1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Not necessarily. Thanks to Fire Emblem Awakening, we now know that Ike left his home continent to explore the world as his descendant is a playable character in Awakening.

      1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Of course, a new Fire Emblem game featuring Ike could still be possible, but it wouldn’t be connected to Path of Radiance & Radiant Dawn since Radiant Dawn made it pretty clear that Ike left the continent.

  5. New games to announce doesnt mean new games to be released.
Fire Emblem X SMT was announced two years ago, and it still remains in purgatory.

  6. Of course the Wii U isn’t done, there’s too many greats games about to be released for it too even think that

    1. Naaaah. I know Nintendo and Namco Bandai have been working together as of late but I don’t think they wanna make that mistake again

  7. Tbh, I wouldn’t be suprised if this generation lasted shorter than the last one before introducing a new console (at least for Nintendo).

    1. I don’t think so. The reason is simple, if Nintendo did release another system so early. They would end up in the same position they are now, when Sony and Microsoft make new consoles later. I’m honestly tired of so many Nintendo systems always being the furthest behind in terms of technology, I don’t know about you people.

The best option for them is to ride the Wii U out, regardless if it never meets their expectations. Next time they should actually wait a little longer instead of trying to beat everyone to the punch (I assume they thought it would be the Wii all over again.) They should also be prepared this time, instead of releasing another system in the same manner they did the Wii U, which when it launched it didn’t have any of the big games it should have launched with.

In my opinion they should take their time, even if Sony or Microsoft releases first. In my opinion it’s always better to release last in a consoles sense, it gives you the upper hand. If need be and you have a set back up plan you could change the hardware accordingly as well.

      1. ” I’m honestly tired of so many Nintendo systems already being the furthest behind in terms of technology, I don’t know about you people. ”

The only underpowered systems that Nintendo has ever produced was the Wii and the Wii U, but the SNES, N64, and Gamecube were either the most powerful or next to the most powerful console of that particular generation.

        1. I didn’t say every one of their system, did I? I really hate when some of you try to put words into my mouth.

That is exactly why I specifically said, so many of them. I already know this and I already knew some Nintendo loyalist, such as yourself would rush to the rescue. So take the time to read what your respond to, I tend to write things this way to avoid such pointless responses that have no relevance to what I actually did say.. Compared to what you thought I said.

You’re also very wrong, those aren’t the only under powered systems Nintendo has made. The DS, the 3DS, The New 3DS, the Wii and the Wii U is many. So you missed a few, die hard loyalist trying so desperately to correct me. The problem is, it seems to be a trend now with Nintendo. So I’ll take a wild guess and assume their next systems will be the most under powered as well but I’m really hoping that isn’t the case.

I am necessarily bitching about it, no.. I obviously own a Wii U and 3DS and I’ve already made up my mind on getting the New 3DS as soon as it releases also.. Will it make me enjoy their games any less, no.. It would just be nice is all. Power is not everything to me, good games are, but power can play a role in making good games even better no matter how much some of you don’t want to admit that.

I’m just saying it would be great if they could go back to their former days of being better or at least equal to what their competitors offer in terms of hardware.

All I want is for them to take their time, review what the market currently has when they do plan to release newer systems or see what is common in many devices that exist during that time to take advantage of what’s available.

          1. In five years “power” will not matter. People are becoming so used to amazing graphics in video games that it will become the statis quo. There will be no need to buy a game because of it’s graphics anymore, because every game will look good. Games will be purchased on their artstyle and gameplay instead. This graphics race, is what I like to call it, will end and it will end soon.

            1. We will never see another huge leap in graphics again. Like the Ps2 – Ps3. That was a huge leap. Ps3 – Ps4, a small leap, but obviously, visibly better. Ps4 – Ps5 will be a very small upgrade. It will have slightly better textures, will run at 60fps more easily, and maybe 4k. Except I think 4k is a fad so probably not 4k. Argueing over power will become obsolete, as every system will be equal in power.

      2. Sony and MS won’t release a new console for at least 6 years, if ever ( I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried cloud-only). If Nintendo manages to release a new console in 2 years, that is clearly superior to the disappointing competition, it might gain popularity. Then again, PS4 is looking to be the first console ever to be the most powerful and most popular of its generation, so going for specs might not be the answer.

      3. Ridley, the Angel of Death

True. One of the reasons the Wii did so well, in my opinion, was because it was actually one of the last consoles to release last gen.

        1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Thanks to the Wii U releasing first, PS4 & XB1 are already making their own versions of the Gamepad. Last gen, it took them awhile to release their own motion controls which by the time they did, the Wii’s was already kicking their asses. This gen, Sony & Microsoft have a chance to do the same to the Wii U if they can get them out & 3rd parties actually support them.

  9. It’s very important for Nintendo to keep supporting Wii U until its real last day, this will generate credibility for its users to buy the next platform, one of the major issues of Wii U is that Nintendo discontinued Wii support a whole year before releasing the Wii U, people didn’t get a real good reason to migrate because of the abandon feeling, and Nintendoi supported the GameCube until its last day before releasing Wii, and people made the upgrade with more safety and guarantee of support.

  10. Obviously 2016 is the last big year for Wii U software. If there is not a successor in 2017, if not holiday 2016, I’d be utterly shocked.

    1. I agree with 2016 for the most part. I think they will have one more big blockbuster early to mid 2017, and then their new console will drop during the 2017 hoildays. That will make it exactly five years which would be perfectly fine.

  11. What they need is advertise the console. All the time I have to explain that Wii U is not a touch screen controller added to the Wii.

Now they have the best games out there, you say nothing to play? Fuck, you probably only play games all day long, I have a big backlog ogof Wii U games and I try to play as much as I can (I do around 10-13 hours a week).

It is really sad going to the stores and the Nintendo shelves being half the size of others or less and no demo station.

  12. Franchises Nintendo still has to make for the Wii U: 3D Mario title (not SMW3D), FE, Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, Normal Kirby, Metroid, F Zero (possibly), various Mario Sport games, various, random JRPGs, Pokemon, and other random 3rd party casual titles like the Mama series, party/sport/dance games. What Nintendo is really missing are the third parties, if Nintendo had those instead of trying to hold all the games themselves there wouldn’t seem to be such a game drought ever month. Even if you only like 5/20 games from a particular month someone else may not like those 5 games at all, but at least they still have 15 other games to choose from. And if Nintendo doesn’t want 3rd parties (or won’t attract 3rd parties) then they need more teams to produce more titles at a faster rate, even if its just little AAA eshop games.

  13. If they wanna sell WiiU’s they just have to make the 3ds games playable on the WiiU via any mean possible allowing players to progress on both consoles.

They did it for the gameboy and gba

  14. One of these unannounced titles had BETTER be a new F-Zero- Miyamoto-san himself pretty much already teased that one’s on the way, so I expect a follow-up.

  15. Pingback: Iwata diz que “Wii U ainda não acabou” mais títulos sem aviso prévio a ser anunciado | Games Bros – O melhor dos Games e Consoles, notícias, vídeos, reviews e muito mais!

  16. well I hope the Wii U is not dead for several personal and business reasons. On the top of my head, for a wii U owner it will be a disaster and it will certainly damage Nintendo’s reputation.

Xbox1 which is much powerful may have sell 10-11M by now and I don’t hear anything about the XB1 being discountinued so why Nintendo should do it and any sell increase for the XB1 now will mean that people have to buy again another one cause their XB1 failed.

On the top of that amiibo and smash bros with mario kart are selling system. So for the wii U to be attractive, the system needs a good library of games and with the amiibo selling like hot cake Nintenod has plenty games to release with this “capability” so the Wii U is far from being finished yet.

Business wise, it would be better now to get the wii U going for another 5 or 6 years cause by the time Sony and MS will discountinue their current products and it would be wiser to have a new system coming out at the same time as the other but with much more games at launch (let’s say 30 games) and specs will be more likely to match the others 2.

  17. For over 2 years having the Wii U, I’ve been asking myself,Iwata where the hell is

    SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2
    THE LAST STORY 2
    PANDORA’S TOWER 2
    KID ICARUS UPRISING HD
FIRE EMBLEM X SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI

METRIOD OTHER M 2 (developed by platinum games)

STAR FOX U (co developed by Platinum Games)

Announce all these games and release them and I will buy the Wii U again

  19. Wiiu doesn’t need a new console I hate it when people say when is Nintendo going to bring out next gen console dumb fucks it is next gen the wiiu isn’t going away anytime soon so just except it there’s still new games being made that no one knows about

  20. I wish I can tell him that the Wii U is so awesome to me,and I play it everyday it is what I spend most all my free time doing, playing Wii U,and I think the titles for this year are going to be so great!
