We know how popular Amiibo have become with stores selling out of select figures within minutes. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed what we all know, that Amiibo have been highly successful. They have been so successful that Nintendo has announced that they’ve sold a staggering 5.7 million Amiibo worldwide. Not bad going for a product that was only launched in November.
Thanks, Kallum and White Eagle

Good news. More money to fund more games.
Yes, also an extremely anti consumer business practice.
All big corporations don’t give two shits about us dude lol
That was not my point, nor did I ever say that was not the case. The problem is that most big corporations get called out on their bullshit while Nintendo just sits back and their fanboys defend them and support their every move.
How is it anti-consumer? Don’t even start with the “physical DLC” bullshit. I buy them for what they are.. collectible figures which happen to have use on some of Nintendo’s games. Seriously, if these things didn’t have an NFC chip on them, people would still be gobbling them up because they’re long awaited figures of Nintendo characters that would never have gotten figures if Amiibo didn’t exist. Also, if you don’t consider yourself a Nintendo fan and you don’t support their every move, what the hell are you doing on a Nintendo related website?
Oh my god, an actual retard. It is not even physical DLC, because it just unlocks the content that is already on disc. Maybe someone with a low IQ such as yourself doesn’t understand that some people don’t care for figurines, but do care for the content locked behind them. Nintendo should’ve just sold them as normal figurines if that is their main purpose.
I don’t support most of their moves because I’m a genius. You’re a moron.
To be honest, you seem to have the lower IQ between the pair of you, avoiding all the points he made bar one and then insulting him. The mark of someone with lower IQ, not a ‘genius’ as you claim to be.
What points did he make? I did address them all in that one post. There is no gray area. They are anti consumer. He went on about how if I’m their fan, why do I hate their decisions. I explained that as well. I’m smart, he is not. He likes everything they do because they are Nintendo, the company he likes and it makes him feel all warm inside to see their moves as good and great.
They’re anti-comsumer because Nintendo is creating a false scarcity to attempt to push sales for products people actually didn’t want in the first place.
Being a Nintendo website it’s safe to assume many of you want to collect a vast number of amiibos. But unless you’re planning on collecting all of them, there must be a few you’ve no interest in.
However this probably changed when Nintendo announced that certain amiibo would have a limited number released initially.
That Wii Fit Trainer basically no one except collectors cared about? Let me guess, some of you didn’t give two sh*ts about her. So why are you so interested now?
Because she’s rare. Because Nintendo has a ‘limited stock’… because reasons. This is the false scarcity of amiibo products at work. Because these figures are rare, it creates a mad dash for these figures, before they’re ‘sold out’.
It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it’s rare, people will go a length to buy it. As we’re seeing these days, wave 3 is sold out at least a month before it hit the shelves. The same is going to happen to wave 4, and every other wave (because they’re ‘rare’) until Nintendo actually keeps them in stock at a reasonable number.
And this is how it’s anti-comsumer. Nintendo has plenty of money to keep amiibo in stock, to keep us from paying scalpers or foreign markets more money then we should have to. But they don’t need to and they don’t want to. Why? Because the false scarcity they’ve created is making the shelves empty, and that’s what matters to them apparently.
Wow, how disappointing I guess…
Why do we have so many Nintendo haters on this website? You are the pathetic ones for being here just to comment shit.
i have 13 amiibo’s
That’s pathetic. 150 dollars for toys. I hope you’re 12.
That’s pathetic. Not spending money on hobbies or entertainment. I hope you’re not severely depressed.
i hope you still have brain cells
lol Another delusional gamer that so happily ignores the fact video games ARE toys, because it apparently makes him/her feel like a man/woman. If you play with it, it’s a fucking toy. Deal with it!
My kid still wants to play with barbies.
He’s probably gay :/
Most definitely
This just in, “My kid” being synonymous with “My son”
We’ll have details on the matter later.
Also, kid’s toys being kid’s toys. If it’s a toy that isn’t meant for adult time, it’s a toy for kids.
So, using your logic you are playing kid’s video games when you play Nintendo games. Grow up you stupid manchild.
AMAZING !
I can feel their butthurt…
just wait for the Pokemon amiibos.
If they even do make Pokemon amiibos, they won’t be in figure form, it will likely be in card form.
Card form would be more practical, but figure form would make them an exponentially greater amount of money.
they’d actually save money and production time if they moved away from the figurines and switched to cards. personally I’d love for them to make pokemon cards, especially if the cards are cheaper to acquire than the figs.
I disagree. People buy the figurines because they like having them on their desks. Cards won’t sell nearly as much.
I didn’t say they would sell better than the figures I said they would be cheaper to manufacture than the figures. I understand your thinking though that the sales could greatly diminish the profit gained if they switch over to cards completely
NFC TCG carda, they would be multipurpose and, assumably strong.
Maybe a TCG on the 3DS or Wii U ? It would allow you to have your Pokemon come to life on the big screen using the NFC function. The game would play like any other Pokemon game accept you use your TCG or amiibo cards for Pokemon instead of only catching them. You can still catch pokemon in game like any normal Pokemon game, but you would need blank cards to act as your Poke balls to catch it. Of course Pokemon will still level up and the data would be stored on the card. The World would probably be more linear due to a lack of HMs, and the story would focus on becoming the very best trainer, earning badges, Elite 4, and then Battle Frontier. You could also battle online with anyone, but at the Battle Frontier there would be a tournament style battling as well as other unique forms. Since this game is a DLC heavy Spin Off it should be anywhere from free to $10 at the most. This also would give us our Wii U Pokemon game we’ve all been waiting for. :)
Fuck that shit lol
Dayummmm

Note that 100 of them were bought by the same guy… Cough *rosalina* cough
They need to make more villager and wii fit trainer amiibos!!
I still don’t have a damn pit one.
Ouch. I guess you missed Gamestop having Pit back in stock for preorder a week ago.
I have one of each released thus far and I have Peach Link and Samus opened. I’ll admit they’re not much functional wise but they look “neat” and a pretty good price point.
They’re 13 dollars for a cheap toy.
You’re collecting toys to a failing console. Time to rethink your life…
Your typing in a Nintendo forum, negatively judging Nintendo fans for buying Nintendo products. Maybe it’s time to rethink your life, or at least your spare time.
You’re judging someone else on their life choices. Time to rethink your life…
nobody has to rethink their life people live their life there own way that’s that
Ah, and you are correct. However, when someone interferes with someone else in a way that they cannot live how they’d like to, then we arrive at an issue.
I thought it would be funny to give them a little dose of their own thinking.
I am waiting on my mega man pre order and toon link too :) not sure if I should open toon link for the spinner in HW… I cannOT find regular link anywhere
I’ve collected the spinner in game, as well as Sheiks and Zelda’s weapon, so just continue playing if you really want it. Now I did unlock it first from the Link amiibo so perhaps that’s what made it findable in game, but still look for it a little more if you don’t want to open up Toon Link.
Just keep an eye out. I’m sure you can find regular Link eventually. Just steer clear of Amazon & eBay because it will most likely be nothing but scalpers on those sites.
Can anyone explain the Amiibo hype to me? I don’t get it. They don’t seem that special. Maybe if I was 6 years old, I would have liked these things, but alas, I’m an adult whose marginal utility with toys has greatly diminished.
Except their not toys
You are also obviously not much of a collector. Amiibos appeal to people who have collections, especially those who collect nintendo related merchandise, and Amiibo is probably the first line of Nintendo collectables that isn’t 100% Mario Zelda and Pokemon.
When is anyone going to find Punch-Out!! merchandise again after Little Mac is discontinued? OR F-Zero? Even characters like Kirby who get occasional merchandise never really get anything of the characters like Dedede or Metaknight.
Now that I think about it, Shiek, Zelda, and Ganondorf would never grace the front of a T-shirt either, without link taking center stage.
It would be like trying to explain the hype a football fan gets during the Super Bowl to a Chinese orphan. You wouldn’t understand even if we tried to explain it. You are much too mature for us.
Yet it was a article saying that Amiibo sales were somewhat disappointing……smh. Well I guess that was a far fetched lie LOL. WAY TO GO BIG N!!!!
I guarantee almost all sales are from desperate fanboys like us who need to have every one of them. To be honest, this whole scheme is genius because as long as the commons are on the shelves, little kids and such can get them, while creating hype for the other ones by creating an artificial scarcity. In the end, they only get more money. It’s not fair, but then again when has it ever?
And what was that the same jackass “analysts” (Michael Patcher likely) said about Amiibo sales being a “disappointment”? lol There’s your disappointment fools. Anti-Nintendo stunt shot down once again.
I think most of the sales are coming from older people.
My nephews 6 and 7 don’t seem to care much for them. I took them to toys r us and told them to pick any one they wanted, but they were not interested at all.
Well no offense, but your nephews do not represent the entirety of the 6 and 7 age group. I have personally seen many children quite happy to own Amiibos.
Also, are these young children aware of what they even do or are for? I would think a 6/7 year old would want a actual toy rather than a figurine that has no animation. That’s just me though, kids are nuts these days.
Human infants are often more knowledgeable in technology today than their adult counterparts…
-Scan indicates that human infants have a 58.6% chance of being more intelligent than human adults-
SMAAAAAAAAAASH!
Just gimme Game & Watch!
The amount of hate, rage and arguments in this comment section is just ridiculous and immature. Congratulations Nintendo! The future is promising!
