Ubisoft’s Unreleased Wii U Game Is Called Know Your Friends

Ubisoft has been sitting on an unreleased Wii U title specifically catered to families and friends for the past year – though has yet to release it for the system. According to Unseen 64, the game in question is named “Know Your Friends”, and we’ve known about it since its ESRB rating cropped up last year. As a party game, Know Your Friends was developed by Ubisoft’s Montreal team in 2013. Yet despite its completion last year, the company made an executive decision to withhold the game’s release due to its poor track record with Wii U sales.

Whether or not Know Your Friends will release on the Wii U is still unknown, though Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has stated in the past that “it will come”. According to various sources, the game took particular advantage of the Wii U GamePad and used it mainly as a pop quiz for social interactions. It also featured the GamePad’s camera – akin to Wii Party U – to take pictures of players and represented them on screen with a quirky paper art style. A video for the off-the-wall title can be viewed, here.

    1. Yeah a Mario Party rip off. That’s not even groundbreaking . We got Miis playing against other Miis since Wii came out. Is that the best they can do? Ubisoft knows damn will you can’t compete with Miis. Then they’ll bitch again that we didn’t buy it.then what?

      1. Sounds boring? Ignoring Mario Gold, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Miro Super strikers Smash bros. Where you from La la Land?

      2. You realize how many times you used the word “Mario?”
TOO MANY. And that’s been my problem with Nintendo. I will NOT buy one. More. Game. With mario in it.

  1. They can keep it. We got a Banjo Spiritual game coming with more faith in Wii U using what little money they have making it compared to rich Ubisoft. So who cares.and besides if I want a party game i’,all get Mario Party.

      1. Ignoring you are forced in America to buy health insurance or you pay a tax penalty. If you don’t pay that you go to jail and risk losing your job for being off work so long. Then you risk losing your house if you don’t have a job to pay your property taxes. You most live on Mars.

    1. I LOVED child of light and AC4. I went ahead and bout it digitally on sale so I can raid ships whenever I feel like it. Oh, I downloaded ZU also. This game could be fun for family gatherings, but I am a little disappointed.

  2. That’s extremely immature of them. “We got this game we made, but our other games didn’t make us millions. Until we get what we want, we won’t give you this new game.” What is this, elementary school?

      1. Business is when a developer releases all versions of a tittle at the same time not hold one for no reason and release it months later expecting it to sell well. That’s stupid. Why didn’t they do the same with Rayman then?

    1. Why would they release a game on a system with a lower install base? It’s risk vs. reward, and they figured they couldn’t make back a profit on the game if not enough people had bought the system. Immature? No – it’s called ensuring you don’t lose money on a game that took years to develop.

      1. Ensuring not to lose money? So why would you hold back a particular version of all games months after releasing it on other platforms.?t

      2. Making a game these days costs lots of money. They developed it, and chose not to release it. They’ve already lost months of potential revenue from that game by choosing to wait and whining how they haven’t made millions on past releases. Yes, I see and understand what you’re saying. But, if they don’t like the Wii U sales and its install base, then why bother making games for it in the first place? Let alone whining to the Nintendo community about how we aren’t shelling money out to them.

  3. Considering how much they have messed around with Wii U owners, despite being one of the system’s more supportive companies, I don’t see very many Wii U owners going for this game to be honest with you, because you never know, they may pull off a Rayman Legends and port it over to other systems anyway

I was expecting little and still got disappointed by it.
A party game? are you fucking serious?
Newsflash Ubisoft. your most sold game on Wii U was Zombi U, not Just dance. Why do you think that Party games are the way to go when they aren’t that much of a success in the system when you try them?
Geez what a retarded company you are.

  5. I would buy this. I can see the second secret screen being really cool for answering questions about each other. Quirky games that the whole family can play together (where’s the new wii sports???) are sorely missing on the WiiU. They are what sold the Wii so I am confused at Nintendo’s decision to abandon them (and before you say it WiisportsU and WiiFitU are just rehashes).

    1. Wii Sport sucked. It was interesting at first but got old real quick. And it was pandering to casuals. Casuals abandoned Nintendo since they aren’t loyal to them. Backlash came from core gamers who felt spurned by the shitty Wii console and have been hesitant to buy the Wii U. They are coming back slowly though. And that is hopefully why there is no new Wii Sports crap; Nintendo may have learned their lesson. Wii was Nintendo’s worst console aside from Virtual Boy if you count that. Financially it was a blockbuster, but game-wise it was full of garbage with good games sprinkled here and there. And thus long-term it hurt them. This Know Yourself game is more garbage that most core gamers could care less about. I’d rather play Trivial Pursuit or something than spend 40-60 dollars on this “video game.”

  6. to be honest they should just leave it and never release it. Unless the quizz have million questions which can compete with buzz. I really don’t see any sell on the game. Even if one disregards the history of Ubisoft, the concept itself is not appealing at all even a casual gamers would not want this game. I think Ubisoft should just get it on Nintendo’s E-shop and hope for any sell. Going directly digital will cost much less than trying to produce a physical copy.

  7. The problem is Ubisoft has pissed off the Wii U user base so bad, they couldn’t sell us a glass of water on a hot day. Ubisoft needs to go under already. The gaming world isn’t big enough for E.A., Activision, and Ubisoft…

  8. Uh I don’t think anyone asked for this Ubisoft. I’ve heard people said you complain about low sales on the Wii U, and just in case you didn’t know, this isn’t helping. You don’t need to create a new IP for the Wii U, just one or two good games that are FULLY optimise for the Wii U is all anyone asks. Giving Wii U owners a new Assassin’s Creed (or something else good and story driven) would be a step in the right direction. It doesn’t have to be an exclusive of course, but as long as it works the way it should, you should start earning at least some respect from Nintendo fans. Actually, you seem to be in hot water with everyone lately with your recent game releases (yikes). Please don’t do anything else stupid, Ubisoft. You seem like a good company, just don’t drive your fanbase in the ground more than you already have.

  9. You’d think that they’d still release every game on Wii U. I mean, it’s still extra money they’d be making. Even if the games don’t sell as good on Wii U. They’re completely missing out on the sales that they COULD BE making.

    1. Ubisoft thinks they don’t need Nintendo anymore. They think Sony and Microsoft will be enough to keep them afloat. Well let me just tell you, good thing Capcom didn’t have that same kind of mentality. Because Capcom had flop after flop on Sony and Microsoft consoles. They were losing money fast. But they still had Nintendo. They never abandoned Nintendo, nor did they insult Nintendo fans, and in turn the Monster Hunter series was selling like hotcakes on the 3ds. That one franchise kept Capcom from going under. Ubisoft has a hard lesson to learn and I hope they learn it soon.

  10. Ubisoft is so stupid they pulled Zombie U off shelves a long time ago. If they left it on the shelves sales would have easily passed a million by now. Ubisoft has horrible management. I hope 2015 is worse than 2014 was for them. I want them gone.

  11. How about offering this game a chance? Could be a fun quirky game for families or parties. Also regarding those who believe they know business, how about questioning why they would A: Delay B: Put little effort C: Expect low sales

If you believe one thing is considered common sense then how about question why they would not do it? What holds them back? Posing they are stupid is just another straw-man argument. A childish and ignorant one at its best.

    1. If they didn’t try to hype up the announcement then there wouldn’t be as many complaints. People were expecting something big, then we got this. But if you like these types of games, good for you, buddy.

  12. Oh look! A game that Nintendo’s hardcore fans hated the Wii for has been made for the Wii U that mostly Nintendo’s hardcore fans bought. Hey, Ubisoft! Go ahead & put this game on smartphones! That’s where a majority of the casual gamers of the Wii ran off to, after all! You have a better shot at selling this game for 15-20 bucks, which is all this game is worth for, on smartphones than you do for 40 bucks on Wii U. Oh & I’m being generous with the 20 bucks price tag because even 20 is too much. lol Oh & go fuck yourself! HAVE A NICE DAY!!! *leaves a yellow smiley face with a Hannibal type mask covering it behind* (Only my fellow WWE fans will get that reference.)

  13. I honestly feel bad for the Ubi Devs. I picture them as Coal-Mine workers with slave drivers above them cracking a whip and making horrible decisions, making sure all their hard work goes to waste. And Watchdogs was probably glitched to hell because the Devs were working in a sweat shop 24/7 being told they had an impossible deadline, all the while the top brass was so proud of themselves for being so smart, then when the game fell apart they wondered what happened.

  14. These people are douches… I swear man this industry is going downhill and they’re a huge part of the blame. They release half assed shit on the Wii U or release it next to the release of big games and expect it to sell well… I fucking have no respect for Ubisoft at all and I hope they go fuck themselves in a ditch for the rest of their lives. Pieces of shit… They released Watch Dogs, a game that nobody liked already, next to Smash Bros. FUCKING SMASH BROS MAN. Who the fuck would buy a game that wasn’t even considered good over Smash Bros? And before that the games they release on the Wii U were fucking half assed ports that came with no DLC at all, and when it didn’t sell they said “We know what Nintendo fans want on the Wii U, they want a bunch of shovel ware shit” then it started getting Just Dance and now this shit game… They literally went out insulted Nintendo fans right in their faces… Fuck these douches. All they care about is how much money they can make. That’s why their games for 2014 fucking sucked and were half assed. They didn’t even try making ACU or Rouge play well and it had 50 trillion glitches all over the damn place. They just released a half assed game and expected it to sell well… In fact that’s what all devs do to the Wii U. They release half assed fucking shit on the system, and take out all the features the other versions of the game have on the other systems. Then when it doesn’t sell they start saying “See? Our games don’t sell on the system” When we all know its there fault. This industry is dying and getting worse and it’s quite sad. All the devs you guys and me loved (I said you guys and me because i wasnt born in the early 90s except ’99) are all dying. SEGA is dying, THQ died and next maybe even Capcom… The industry is… is… dying…

  15. Hmm, don’t generally understand a fans emotional cries because I take things from a business perspective. Morals and values don’t play a part, its a business. Though it seems they need to earn your respect back but honestly you guys sound like a bunch of preschoolers. You can only hold a grudge for so long.

I can’t speak for you guys however I generally let go of these strife’s and just continue on. I see no point in staying angry over a company that is trying to make money, in whatever method they choose to use. Basically my thinking regarding this game is “what will they offer”. That is all.

    1. lol On the contrary, morals & values are just as important as making money when it comes to running a business. Unless you think it’s okay for these businesses to use child & slave labor. Or that it’s okay for a bar business to let their customers get stone cold drunk to the point of alcohol poisoning. Or that it’s okay to let food businesses feed people food that had cockroaches & rats crawling all over it.
