The Nintendo Wii U is the worst performing Nintendo console possibly ever, and for the past three financial years, Nintendo have posted an operating loss. However, according to Nikkei, Nintendo are estimated to make an operating profit of 25 billion yen this financial year– so, what has given them a boost? According to Fortune, amiibo have been selling out since their launch in November 2014, and sold over 5.7 million figures worldwide in only two months last year. From 2012 to January 2015, the Wii U has sold 9.2 million units worldwide, and since the release of the amiibo the Wii U has seen a 10% increase in hardware sales and a 29% increase for 2014 overall. And that trend isn’t slowing, with a continuing 20% increase for the first quarter of 2015. It’s estimated that the amiibo figures could add a $200 to $300 million to Nintendo’s annual revenue. The little, cute figures can pack a big punch!

They sell like 10% the likes of Skylands or Disney Infinity, which I believe both already surpassed 1 billion figures sold per year (not sure about Disney). Compare it to Nintendo less than 50 million and you get the picture of how little they’re actually selling

That was a monthly chart on launch, they were like equaly divided into 3 thirds. But Amiibos just released and sold less than 50 million as far as I know, while Skylanders and Disney Infinity have been around for sometime

For Skylanders, it’s actually only been 175 million figures released between Sept 2011 and Feb 2014 (more like… 70-ish million figures sold per year?), I don’t think they’d have managed to make ~that~ much of a jump in the last year…

I don’t know about being betrayed, or if it even fits the bill, but I said it once and I’ll say it again. “If nintendo falls, the WHOLE GAMING COMMUNITY like xbox and playstation will fall”. Without nintendo, the other two won’t stand tall for long.
And not attacking PS4 for waiting so fucking long for an actual “next gen” game that’s not a port from PC or last gen consoles. Also giving the fact that Xbox One is a technical failure with a much higher failure rate to catch fire and shit, people still shitting on Wii U is still a mystery. It’s not a terrible console and it’s amazing in its own ways which no other console can mimic. Off TV, eliminating split screen annoyance, simultaneously streaming picture/sound to a touchscreen Gamepad remote without lag and just using 3 core and 1GB RAM plus it draws less power than the freaking Wii that has more technical inferiority which equals to drawing little power. Wii U can be an incredible if utilized completely and differently but since everyone (including Nintendo) has gone full blown stupid to bash it without even touching it, it’s doomed to suffer an unnecessary bad reputation for now until years later people start looking back and recognize what a great console it could’ve been but too late.
Wii U is not the problem. It’s both Nintendo and those sorry ass liars and cons of Third Parties giving it a horrible rep and time to deal with plus making gamers who appreciate the console’s worth feel even more embarrassed and low to even consider gaming it anymore.

The Wii U is most likely either right at 10 million or close to it by now. The official sales numbers for the Wii U for this month have not been tallied up as of yet but as of March of this year (and although they’re not really dead-on accurate) vgchartz has the Wii U’s sales listed at 9.4 million

Nintendo have never been in the red. Not since launching the Famicom/NES anyways. People are making up bullshit stories to give them bad rep. There’s no doubt the Wii U is behind but on the other hand Xbox ONE isn’t even making a dent in the Japanese market and neither did their previous two consoles, but nobody talks about that. ‘Cause it’s always ‘MURICAN sales that matters even if a console is dong well in Japan and Europe. Oh yeah and yes, the VB is the least sold Nintendo console. It only has 15 games or so. Now that’s shitty.
The only time that Nintendo’s ever been in the red, is when they and others were seeing Red and Black with the Virtual Boy. In all seriousness, Nintendo have a really good track record of gaining profits, a loss here or there will only be a slight dent and nothing else.
Japan sales are talked about cause there are nowhere near as many people in japan as the U.S. so getting a lot of sales over there doesn’t really mean much if you aren’t selling a lot in the bigger markets.
Nintendo never needed saving in the first place. They have ton of money in reserve. Plus, sure, the Wii U isn’t exactly a success, but to my understanding, it is still turning at least a small profit for Nintendo. Besides, even if the Wii U operates at a loss for Nintendo, the 3DS and Amiibo more than make up for it.
In conclusion, Amiibo didn’t save Nintendo, it just made them more money…
