SEGA Is Interested In Creating More 3D Classics If Sales Continue To Be Good

SEGA has revealed that it’s keen to create more titles in the 3D Classics range if sales of the next range of titles prove to be strong enough. We’ve had a number of great releases and there’s still more to come with games such as GunStar Heroes 3D and Streets of Rage 3D. Let’s cross our fingers and hope they’re a success.

F: First off, congratulations on your continuation with the [Sega 3D Classics] series. We thought you’d stopped after putting out the super-compilation that was Sega 3D Classics. It came as a pleasant surprise that there was more to come. The three titles we’re talking about today will be making up additions to the second round of games releasing in the series outside of Japan, but do you have any plans for more titles after that?

Yosuke Okunari (Sega Games): These games aren’t the start of a new series [of re-releases; rather, they’re the second wave of games within a series] so we have no plans for the future.

Naoki Horii (M2): None at all!

Okunari: These three titles were put out for download overseas simply as an extension [to the existing series]. This really is the end for the second wave [of Sega 3D Classics]. Of course we want to consider the development of a third wave based on the response to this second wave, but we have no plans at this point in time. We’ll look at the big picture, that is, we’ll look at the sales trends of the physical release of the Sega 3D Classics line that went on sale last year [in Japan] as well as how the upcoming three titles perform in the global market. We’re happy to do this indefinitely if sales are good.

  1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>I want Bio-Hazard Battle, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Golden Axe 2-3 at once>>>

  2. Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Streets of Rage 2, Shining Force, Gunstar Heroes, Target Earth all would be amazing to see in 3D, even though some are not SEGA property. Also, maybe some 32X love and 3D Knuckles Chaotix?

  3. Um hello earth to sega once sonic went 3d it wasnt as speedy it wasnt as fun it wasnt as pure of a challange best sega realease i’ve seen since genisis was everygame on one disk, in its OG form! I cant in good faith recomend anything past the dreamcast era

  4. For me, all I want to see after this year’s round of 3D Classics, is Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I don’t mind if it costs a little more than Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, I just really want it on 3DS.

  5. They need to sell themselves to Nintendo or someone else that has the talent to revive their myriad of IP. Seriously they are just about the worst run gaming company out there. They just don’t have any talent any longer and are wasting away year by year.

      >>>They haven’t had any talent or organisation skills since human year 1996>>>

    1. The 3D releases are made by M2 and are extremely polished and bug-free (except for the bugs the original games had; the screen wrap-around glitch still works in 3D Sonic the Hedgehog, for example).

  7. Ristar 3D would be cool! I played it on Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube and it was really fun! Never finished it though. The game got so fucking hard once you get to the lava level

  8. Ridley, the Angel of Death

As long as I get Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in window 3D for my n3DS, fuck everything else from Sega!

After all, they are just going to be as dead as Konami when & if they ever go fully with mobile, so as long as I get StH23D, I’ll be happy to leave a flower on Sega’s grave.
