Splatoon Takes Colour-Blindness Into Consideration In Colourful Game

Obviously, Splatoon is a vibrantly coloured game and the colours are a pretty essential part of the game– especially in the Turf War mode. So what about people who are colour-blind? Well, seems like Nintendo got it covered. The new demo released today for Splatoon is available to download now, but not able to play until the set times and dates. But, as reddit user Butter_Is_Life found, if you go into the Menu you can find the in-game manual in which they describe a “Colour Lock” feature. With this feature, you can choose pre-set colour patterns for your gameplay and they specify that it is “for the aid of players who have difficulty distinguishing certain colors.” So, if you’re colour-blind, you don’t have to worry! You can still enjoy this exciting game as much as the next person. It’s a detail that could have been overlooked, and I thought it was quite a nifty feature to have included.

      1. They’ll just have to learn how to use their eyes and the movements of their teammates on screen and pad in order to decide what actions best coordinate with their teammates actions, I guess.
Some of them might be too dumb to coordinate without VC, though.

In all seriousness, though, it would be great to see voice chat added to friend matches.
In public, it could stay gone and I wouldn’t give a crap, since I don’t need team mates ordering me around to figure out how to cooperate well with them.
But it would be nice to be able to just chat about random stuff with friends in friend matches, though.

Hah! Perfect! I guess they felt bad for those that can’t talk so decided against voice chat. God knows we shouldn’t offend the mute gamers of the world! lol

      3. They can all stay on Call of Duty, yelling at each other with racist slurs. Keep those kids outta my Splatoon (which is so easy to coordinate/play in the first place that you don’t even need voice chat. Just get on Skype with your friends, nerd)

  1. From the sound of this, I assume this is only for people who blind to certain colors. Such as red/green blind or something like that. I don’t think they can do much for people who are fully colorblind. But that’s just a guess of course.

    1. I have a friend who can’t tell apart yellow from lime green and such. I can’t imagine anyone can’t tell apart orange from green but then again I’m not a doctor. I’d kill myself if I couldn’t see ANY colours anymore.

What about “light” v “dark?” Color blind people who see no color at all (very few people by the way) can definitely tell dark from light.

  2. If the colour lock thing makes your team always be a certain color, man I would use that feature and choose orange ALL DAY

    1. I’m assuming that it’s just how the players sees certain colours. For example, if you can’t see red properly, the player will just make the red look like blue. They won’t actually be on blue only teams.

  3. HAL lost his GF due to OCD obsessions

Color blind people could chose a color scheme that makes one team bright and the other dark. That way they use the brightness level as differentiation.

  4. Anyone know about that splatoon demo? They are supposely gonna let us have an early taste of it and its gonna be only playable for three days and at a set time.
    Anyone? No?

  6. Even if they do, CoD is not as colorful as Splatoon.

Anyhoo, kudos to Nintendo for doing this.

If fan babies are reading their own posts here, do they really think their bad language is acceptable to many if Nintendo included voice chat? Why? Because you can’t play a game without trash talk? I know it’s a loss but it’ll pass if you really enjoy the game.

  7. This is a little off topic, but can Splatoon be played with the pro controller in single player or do you need to use that GamePad? I’ve tried to Google it but I can’t find the answer anywhere.

    1. I’m preeettty sure that you can only use the Gamepad for single player. If you can use the pro controller I don’t think they’ve talked about it.
