New Skylanders Game To Be Called Skylanders Superchargers And Feature Vehicles

skylanders_superchargers_database_listing

We know that there’s a new Skylanders game coming out this year, but other than that, not a lot has been confirmed. However, there are a lot of rumours swirling around about the new game. The first of which was that it will apparently feature vehicles, this is backed up by the fact that American motorsports competitor, Travis Pastrana, wrote an Instagram post saying: “Was filming some cool stuff for a new Activision game called Skylanders Superchargers this weekend.” Notice the name Skylanders Superchargers? It was deleted very shortly after, indicating that it’s probably the name of the new game. Another rumour emerged more recently, the image above is from Danish retailer Fætter BR’s database, and clearly lists the game on a number of platforms. Nothing has been confirmed still, but it’s looking very likely!

  1. Don’t really care about Skylanders to be honest but hey it’s ok for the people who like it

      1. That’s what I mean. Like Gamecube and Xbox pretty much died off while the 3DS was still new, but PS2 had it’s last new game in 2013 and they still sell left over PS2 games in Walmart to this day!

I just thought the Wii wouldn’t be getting anymore major games because of the Wii U. But then again, current-Gen consoles aren’t doing well enough to completely leave last-Gen, with Wii U doing the worst of them all.

  2. I admit i love Skylanders but the prices on these Toys to Life games are getting too steap. Lego Dimensions is the most expensive so i will stick to that. I’m surprised they are still supporting Wii and 3DS even though Wii U is the far superior port

      1. Actually, ALL of them aren’t even memorable for a whole minute. One killed Spyro and the other who voiced Invader Zim tried to impersonate Zim’s voice in a Smurf villain ripoff character in a sad attempt to appeal to Zim fans to buy there garbage just like Advanced Warfare featuring Kevin Spacey.

          1. He’s an actor. lol He’s recently playing in House of Cards, he also starred in Negotiator with Samuel Jackson and Lex Luthor in that fucked up and utterly boring Superman Returns. lol

              1. Oh my god. EVERYBODY knew he was gonna be the villain even from its very first reveal trailer that gave it away which is why many reviews criticize the story to be painfully predictable and clichéd all over.

Spacey plays Irons who is CEO of Atlas Corporation, a worldwide PMC company who turns on the world after being accepted by the UN. He’s just another bad guy pretending he’s the good guy by doing something extreme towards the world in his sick way of “saving it” or “bringing order”. BORING!

  3. Damn it, does this mean they will make yet another new portal? If that is the case, forget this shit. Lego, here I come =D

  4. You know, I would never actually buy one of the starter sets or the individual figures brand new, but over the past few months I have started to pick up at least the first three games preowned for Wii along with a couple of the really cheap figures (which at least for the first game they tend to be the “main” Skylander characters), and while I do agree they do go overboard with the damn things, I have to say that the series isn’t really that bad, I think most of the haters just have a knee-jerk reaction to it (which I must admit I too as first kind of did, but I was always intrigued by the games).

First of all, one can not say that amiibos are any better then Skylander figures in their basic purpose, both unlock content that is already in the game. Yes, Amiibos work across multiple games while the Skylanders only work with a specific series, but I have to say that of the two, I think the Skylanders (as well as the original use of the Amiibos for Smash Bros) do toys-to-life the best way, not as a way to unlock content already in a game, but as more or less detailed memory cards to hold character stats and data and transfer those stats between games, THAT is what all of these damn figures should be focused on, not unlocking bits and pieces of games. Unless these figures were actually designed in such a way that they literally contained game data the base game does not have and would copy from them into the game, I dont see why everyone thinks they are that great, they literally are the physical embodiment of on-disc-DLC, Amiibos just have the edge of being really popular characters that people recognize and have grown up with, while Skylanders outside of Spyro, Sparx and Cynder are all original characters no one has any form of attachment to.

But anyway that’s not really the point of my rant. I just think Skylanders get a lot of hate by people who have never actually played the games. Yes they go overboard with different versions of past characters, but at least (just like amiibos), if you have an older version of a character you have no need to get the new or variant ones unless you are a collector. The game play itself however is actually not that bad, the first two games can be very easy, but at least the third adds a “Nightmare” difficulty, which really isn’t that bad either. It would be nice if in each version they up the ante with harder difficulties for max level characters and veterans of the games. The games could really be described as sort of Diablo-lite in game play, repeated play through of the same stages with harder challenges (more so bonus objectives in Skylanders case then difficulties) with the same basic style of game play (at least when compared to Diablo 3). There is “gear” for characters, but could really only be described as about 1 or two pieces, it would be nice if they added more as it would make better use of the figures stats saving abilities. Also the characters abilities are for the most part fun, maybe not as tactical in game play and some “feel” the same between characters, but they all are fun to play. My main dislike are for areas that require a “specific” character to enter into, those are the only places that feel like they are really forcing you to buy more figures (along with a few achievements). There are a lot of changes I would make to the basic game play (especially co-op), but for the most part they are generally solid titles and most reviews of those who have played them reflected that.

Furthermore I too was skeptical about the “Spyro” part of the series, and like many just viewed it as a hype and marketing ploy to pull people in, but honestly at their core the games actually do feel like they could have been a new Spyro series, in fact that is exactly what it started as so he wasn’t just thrown in there to sell the games. The actual “lore” and world of the games fits the original series well along with the fact that the creators of the characters actually have set back stories for each character, so at least it appears they had fun with the creation of the games. Interestingly enough, in the one game it almost seems to be hinting that the Skylanders series is aware of the “REAL” Spyro in some way or another, either with the current one being the equivalent of the reincarnation of the Hero of Time in Zelda, or may literally actually be the original Spyro. I think the biggest missed opportunity from the creators is they should have added new versions of ALL of the old Spyro characters like Ripto and Sgt. Byrd, or hell, unless I am mistaken Activision I think owns the rights to Crash Bandicoot, they should have thrown those characters in as well, that would have really sold the games.

So yeah, haters gonna hate I guess, but I would say grab a copy of the original some day preowned with the portal and 1 figure and at least give it a try sometime, they really are not bad games at their core.
