In a surprise announcement Nintendo and Greece are set to part ways in 2016. The news comes direct from the Nortec Multimedia S.A who are the official distributors of Nintendo products in the country. It seems like the only way you will be able to get your hands on Nintendo games and merchandise is through importing which can be a relatively costly solution. Here’s what they said.

AS YOU ALL KNOW, NORTEC MULTIMEDIA WITHSTOOD THE RELENTLESS ECONOMIC CRISIS WHICH AFFECTS OUR COUNTRY OVER THE LAST SIX YEARS. EVEN TODAY THE COMPANY IS HEALTHY AND OPERATES WITHOUT LOANS.
HOWEVER, A NUMBER OF IMPORTANT TRADE ISSUES WITH NINTENDO OBLIGE TO PUT AN END TO OUR LONG-TERM COOPERATION. THEREFORE, WITH GREAT SADNESS WE INFORM YOU THAT OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH NINTENDO ENDS ON 12/31/2015.
WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE TO ALL OUR PARTNERS FOR THE HEARTY AND CONTINUOUS SUPPORT OVER THE YEARS AND OF COURSE ALL CONSUMERS AND FANS OF OUR PRODUCTS. ALSO, WE WISH NINTENDO THE BEST FOR ITS FUTURE PLANS AND ACTIVITIES IN GREECE, CYPRUS AND THE BALKANS.”

Not a big suprise if you look at the financial problem’s in greece, it’s sad for fans but think about it was going to happen sooner or later and why would you import game’s in a country that has financial problem’s people are not going to buy games and consel’s went they have financial problem’s and also knowing that there almost no Nintendo fans are in Europa stille it’s suck’s for the big Nintendo fan’s in greece
What I don’t understand is why Venezuela is still getting them (Videogames) when other countries have a better economical state like (IMO) Brazil or Greece, unless they’re also having hyper inflation, lack of food and similar stuff…

Because videogames in Brazil are fucking expensive mainly because of taxes. Nintendo really had lackluster sales here and it didn’t help that the prices are high.
Venezuela is still getting them, but not because of Nintendo. It’s just normal people who own a store and they import the games with their own funds.
Still, they are quite expensive for us, given that our currency is worth nothing, and people here don’t make dollars, but Bolivares.

Yea, but the real reason is not because of economic crisis. There are worse off countries who still deal with Nintendo. The real reason is political, maybe a trade gone bad, or a deal couldn’t be reached. Who knows the real reason honestly, but it’s NEVER the reason they give you. That’s always a lie…
I promise you if the Wii U was selling like the original Wii, they would still be partner in Greece..

The title is incorrect. Nintendo lost its distributor. It doesn’t mean they won’t look for another one.
I don’t think they will. Nortec was the distributor here in Turkey too but they withdrew in 2012 and no Nintendo title ever come out here since. Greece is a bigger market for Nintendo but i don’t think they will find any solution to this any time soon.

Greece has bigger problems to deal with anyway. When they get things under control, maybe then they can have the good stuff.
The problem is everybody was getting government hand outs, now the government is broke. You cannot rely on a government, you have to make your own way in life… But this discussion is for another topic…

It is not out of the question that a new distributor may be found, but it is not a problem without a solution for a Greek Nintendo geek. Importing from Germany or UK is easy and most of the times cheaper.
That sucks, I bought my 3DS from Greece :(
Things like warranty issues are the worst part of this broken partnership.

I’ve never experienced anything like that in person. Never even saw a person holding a gun before (except cops). I only hear about that stuff on the news.
Bad crimes happen in every country. People murdered, kidnapped, raped. It’s not just the U.S.. The U.S. just has the bad habit of shinning a light on every occasion. The real problem is our media. You cannot stop crazy people who want to kill, guns or not…

they say they will end their cooperation with Nortec not with greece! Nintendo so far never said they wont sell to greece anymore, they can always find another company!
too late since nortec is the distributor for not only greece but also cyprus and the are out of stock for 2 months now, no nintendo games this christmas for 2 countries, this is a huge loss for nintendo directly
Finding a new distributor is not an easy task. Nortec was responsible for translating manuals, covers, they provided service for the hardware etc. The new candidate should have qualified stuff for all the above, not to mention representatives that speak Japanese.. This will take a while, unless this was known and settled in a past time.
I’m Greek and I don’t worry at all.As long as we are part of EU we can import from amazon UK, fr, it etc, TGC and pretty much every European eshop. Most of the time it’s cheaper to import than buy locally. Situation will be difficult though for parents and children but for us enthusiasts not much changes. And some stores already tend to import on their own.
nortec did not of that, manuals were removed or A´4 black & white prints were used, for pokemon games the pokemon company did, all the games were on english, basically they were useless, most in Greece and Cyprus we were forced to say that we were from UK just to get updates and access the shop because they didn’t want to host one
