If you thought the Yoshi games took place in the Mushroom Kingdom, guess again. According to Nintendo producer Takashi Tezuka, the Yoshi universe is completely separate from the land in which the Mario Brothers embark on most of their adventures. This doesn’t mean that Yoshis don’t exist in the Mushroom Kingdom. A good number of them can be found there and are said to have immigrated into it after Super Mario World, the game that introduces the rideable dinosaurs for the very first time.

Of course it doesn’t… It takes place on Yoshi’s Island…
I never felt like there was an official Super Mario World 2. Since Yoshi’s Island was SO dramatically different. It never made sense to me why the title “Super Mario World 2” was attached to the title of Yoshi’s Island. It also never made sense how (in Yoshi’s Island) they made it appear as if Mario & Luigi knew Yoshi since birth. Yet it SMW, they met Yoshi for the first time. Video game logic.
Also, it’s almost as if Yoshi is hallucinating (or living within his dreams) in his games. Since the art style is always so over-the-top different.
You know, there’s no evidence that Mario met yoshi for the first time in SMW
But when Yoshi first appears in SMW, he introduces himself to Mario. Sure, some could speculate that maybe that Yoshi was a different Yoshi, and he didn’t realize Mario already knew about the Yoshis. BUT…….back then, it was supposed to be the very first time Mario met Yoshi. So that’s what I base it on. I hate when future games (or movies) tries to change something that happened in the previous games (or movies).
I really dont think Mario has canon storyline connecting all the games like Zelda so to me, whatever :/
They did that with the super mario land games on gameboy, also. The first 2 were mario games, but Super Mario Land 3 was Warioland 1. To make matters more confusing, the SML title was dropped for Warioland 2, so technically, is Warioland 2 SML4 or not? It’s a mess.
I always assumed that Mario forgot the events of SMW2 since he was just a baby, and the Yoshis in that game were different from the ones in SMW since you see them hatch.
As for the hallucinations, lol, as if Yoshi games needed more allusions to hallucinogens. Maybe you’re right though, interesting theory.
Not the green Yoshi, He was trapped in that egg. Also, He can carry eggs back In his own Universe unlike other Yoshi’s.
We already know that but ok.
No. No. No. Like the Donkey Kong Country games, they take place on an island & a series of other islands on the same planet that the Mushroom Kingdom is on! It’s a pretty fucking huge planet! Least that’s my head canon! Unlike Legend of Zelda, fuck your official canon for Mario, Nintendo, because it sucks ass! D:<
The Koopalings are Bowser’s children, Bowser Jr is the baby of Bowser’s kids so gets the most love & attention of all 8 of Bowser’s kids, Toads do have genders, Mario & Peach are in a sexual relationship & get it on after the credits roll of every game, Luigi is dating Daisy, all of the villains get tired of being the bad guys at times so they get together with Mario & friends to play sports (like Golf, Tennis, or Kart Racing) or party games, and I could go on but I think this is enough of my head canon for the day.
Oh & like The Collector said, most Yoshi games is just a dream of a particular Yoshi, namely the one that rescued Mario & Luigi from Bowser back when they were all toddlers.
In other words, the main Yoshi is one very old dinosaur!
That’s basically everyone’s canon. :P
That’s what they said and that’s that. Your head canon does not count
No shit Dumbtendo. Everyone knows it takes place at Yoshi’s Island, same for Super Mario World.
They said universe. A Universe is not an island. Super Mario world takes place on Dinosaur Island

does this mean they’re non-canon
