Pokemon VGC 2016 Ruleset Announced Up To Two Legendaries Allowed per team

The Pokemon Company has announced the ruleset for this year’s Pokemon Video Game Championships. Players will now be able to use up to two legendaries per team which should make things extremely interesting. However, it should be noted that Legendary Pokemon don’t include Mythical Pokemon. If you’re interested you can find out more about the rules and regulations of the 2016 competition here and here.

  • All battles will be Double Battles played in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.
  • Time limits for battles will vary by event. At major events (Regional Championships and above), battles will have a 15-minute time limit, 45-second move timer, and a 90-second Team Preview.
  • Pokémon brought in via Poké Transporter will not be permitted (the blue pentagon is required).
  • All discovered Pokémon will be allowed except the following Mythical Pokémon: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie, and Hoopa.
  • Teams may have no more than two of the following Pokémon: Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde.
  • All items will be allowed except Soul Dew. Each Pokémon must hold a different item.

Uhm… Why is Deoxys not allowed? It’s not a Mythical Pokemon anymore because of the fact we can actually catch him without an event in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, so there is no reason to use it’s rarity as an excuse since I doubt it’s as rare in the competitive scene these days as it was in the past. Oh well. I don’t really care for the competitive scene of Pokemon, anyway. Sucks for those that might have actually wanted to use Deoxys, though.

  2. Not all too pleased about this. Everyone is going to have Mega Ray on their team.

But I’ve been out of the competitive scene for awhile so I don’t know if things changed.
