Lots of Qs about Wii U! But #RareReplay’s exclusive to Xbox One, and we’re hard at work on Sea of Thieves. Appreciate the enthusiasm though!
— Rare Ltd. (@RareLtd) December 14, 2015
Quite a few people got rather excited when the official Microsoft Studios blog suggested that people contact Rare to find out whether they could bring the glorious Rare Replay collection to the Wii U. Today, Rare has put its foot down and has said that the compilation is staying exclusive to the Xbox One along with its next project Sea of Thieves.

I knew it sounded too good to be true.
Well, back to waiting for N64 homebrew to be perfected, a century from now.
Yep. We’ll have Mars colonized before then. :P
I feel like they’re just advertising at this point.
WHY?! I WANT MY BANJO & KAZOOIE DANG IT! I DON’T CARE ABOUT YOOKA-LALEE THEIR JUST TRYING TO STEAL BANJO & KAZOOIE’S THUNDER! GO AWAY YOU LIZARD AND BAT, I WANT MY BEAR AND BIRD BACK!
Hey screw you Yooka-Laylee may actually be awesome. The ones making it are the ones responsible for bear and bird, don’t diss their game based off nothing.
Don’t care, I grew up with the Bear and Bird, and no stupid reptile and bat will change my mind.
So because you grew up with them you are unable to like the new guys in a new game just off that? Lame.
well sorry to hear you say that because its the creators of banjo making the game…
Someone is stuck in the past. You would rather have an old game ported, then a brand new game make by the same guys who made Banjo, somehow your brain is backwards.

Well fucking duh. Nintendo fans act like just because minecraft is on wii u now that you’ll get the whole damn box chocolates of rareware from Microsoft. Like sit the fuck down! We’re not getting anymore shit from them.
You are fun at parties clearly
Sometimes I am the fucking party.
I WANT MY BANJO & KAZOOIE! FOR RARE’S SAKE, THEY’D BETTER BE IN SMASH BROS. TOMORROW OR I’M NOT A BANJO & KAZOOIE FAN ANYMORE! I WAS HOPING THIS WOULD BE MY ONE CHANCE TO PLAY THEM ON MY WII U, GETTING MY CHILDHOOD BACK, TRYING OUT NUTS & BOLTS FOR MY FIRST TIME. BUT NOPE, RARE WENT AND SAID NO. FLIPPING JERKS! THEY BETTER MAKE A 3DS REMAKE OF BANJO-KAZOOIE AT SOME POINT!
Your childhood was an accident :p
Your face was an accident, freak.
Oooo that’s harsh!
Don’t mock my childhood then, freak.
then don’t call him a freak manchild.
I was just joshing :p
“THEY’D BETTER BE IN SMASH BROS. TOMORROW OR I’M NOT A BANJO & KAZOOIE FAN ANYMORE!”
So, are you not a Banjo-Kazooie fan anymore? Better yet, why would this affect your enjoyment of it? There’s still always the N64.
The only thing worth a damn in Rare Replay is Banjo Kazooie, which is a copycat of Donkey Kong 64 anyway.
Rare never did anything noteworthy either before or after they worked for Nintendo, and Microsoft has had them working on making their shitty peripherals suck less for the last 10 years which explains why the newest game in Rare Replay is Viva Piñata.
WHAT?! Banjo Kazooie is very much different than DK, and DEFINITELY NOT a clone! GO BACK TO THE FIERY INFERNO FROM WHENCE YE CAME!!
Not a clone but more like an inspiration.
Banjo came out first.
Technically no. Donkey Kong/Country did. lol
Yea but they are talking about DK64 in specific.
Seriously? Does he not know anything of rare? Batman, stranga, help me out with this fool. In over all, I guess you thought killer instinct, Donkey Kong Country, conker, Agent dark or perfect Dark, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Battle toads, ETC. are all nothing, Yeah Banjo was like a copy but its in the controls, not the game. Rare made its legend on its own games thanks to nintendo as a second party Mr. TheAG (@followtheAG). I suggest you play those games before talking…rare is shit now, but their games in the previous generations are worth it.
Exactly. Thank you.
I still disagree with you, I’m just clarifying what you said.
But…. Banjo Kazooie is from 98 and DK64 is from 99? How is BK the clone?
Also the last Viva Piñata is not as new as Nuts and bolts, which I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) came out a few months apart.
The original Viva Piñata released in 2006, it’s sequel (Trouble In Paradise) released two months prior to the release of Nuts & Bolts.
Really? That close? I was almost certain that N&B was the newer game but I wasn’t aware of how close both of them released from each other.
Copy of DK64? You obviously haven’t played EITHER. And jet force gemini is on that list. You clearly weren’t around for the 64 era, or were a kid at the time.
What about Banjo-Tooie?
False. Perfect Dark is also worth a damn.
And Battletoads. And a few others. You clearly don’t own RReplay, or are a young gamer.
I’m betting on him being young honestly
I can’t hold being young against him, but he certainly shouldn’t judge older games so harshly! :]
Yea, I’m young (mid teens) but I still love the older Rare games. I still love the NES, and SNES even though I started out on N64. Just because you are young doesn’t mean you can’t aprecciate older games. Some young people have this strange mindset like that now that when a new console gen is out, that makes the old one instantly terrible, and the new one way better. That’s not the case. Now the new gen might be better (all opinion based of course) but that doesn’t mean you can’t like the older games as well. Now some older gamers (and I hate using that term “gamers” BTW) are so stuck in the past that they think the newer gens are complete junk, and your only a “real gamer” if you stick to “the classics.” Both of these are extremely wrong. Just because somethings old doesn’t make it better or worse, same with if its newer. Why can’t we just like the games we like, dislike the games we dislike and be more of a gaming community, instead of a gaming Tyranny, with everyone wanting to be the Ruler.
I’m agreeing with Jaded_Drybones here BTW.
I agree with fanboydestroyer. This line says it all: “Rare never did anything noteworthy either before or after they worked for Nintendo…” Pfft. That or he’s just being a hateful little Nintendo fanboy dissing Rare’s games from the past because they are part of Microsoft now. Just because Rare sucks now doesn’t erase the fact their past games before being bought & owned by Microsoft were awesome.
Well fuck you for that one Microsoft/DEAD (Not) Rare

The main reason why I believe that Rare Replay could never come to Wii U involves the way Rare Replay was developed.
Any game released prior to the collection on the Xbox 360 runs an emulator of the Xbox 360 on the Xbox One, similarly to how they work backwards compatibility.
It boots to a direct recreation of the Xbox 360 home screen and actually signs in the user to the Xbox 360 server. This is the case for the HD versions of Banjo and Perfect Dark, as well as all of the retail games too (Both Viva Piñata titles, Perfect Dark Zero, Nuts and Bolts etc.)
I highly doubt Rare had ever intended of releasing the collection elsewhere and used this as a way to test the water for backwards compatibility on the Xbox One.
(I may be the only person on this site that actively uses an Xbox One, which is fine, because I also love my Wii U and 3DS.)
Awww….
Not really surprised, and as a Xbone owner, don’t really care, I have my copy, and love it, even if Rare of nowadays has nothing to do with most of the games present on the collection.
Would be awesome though, a Rare Replay with the DK games, SF Adventures, etc…
Nintendo could do something like that, yes, I am aware of NES Remix, but those games, as great as they are, work like the Snapshot Gallery of Rare Replay, they are not a full compilation of Nintendo’s history, but with the Virtual Console, that collection is likely to happen as Halo on Wii U, again, I like VC, I have a lot of VC games, especially on the Wii, but I would love the “Nintendo Replay” collection! 😃
Anyone who actually thought Rare would be like “Oh…want it on Wii U? Okay coming right up!” Is an idiot.
>>>Good, anymore Xbot tainted filth needs to stay away>>>
Well I’m tainted with xbox and platstation too, should I stay away? :P
Just cover your mouth when you sneeze and we’ll be ok.
>>>Yes…>>>
*sneezes on Quadraxis after days of PS4 corruption* You’re welcome.
>>>I don’t care about Sonyan Third Class dependable slaves that can’t do anything by themselves>>>
>>>Did I mention that the Sonyans are selling themselves to the army corrupted filth of your country? Evil pathetic beings that is now officially as bad as the Xbot infection>>>
What in the world are you going on about?
What what? What do you mean Commander?
>>>The military was testing their machine, I can’t find an English article about it but the military “testing” something indicates another thing doesn’t it>>>
I think they used “Sonyan Third Class” PS3s for a network. Not sure, though.
>>>I was somewhat in error before, it was NASA that apparently tested the PSVR, but since the military has business with NASA then I was still right>>>
Well, they can turn it sideways and shove it up their rotted asses! Along with all of the other crapbox games I’ll never play.
Everyone has their fetishes I guess. I don’t judge you.
Well no complains much here…only one. THIS IS WHAT CAUSES THE FUCKING RIDICULOUS CONSOLE WARS THAT NO ONE SHOULD GIVE TWO FLYING SHITS ABOUT RARE AND MICROSOFT! STOP FEEDING THE TROLLS AND HATERS!!!
It’s hard to tell a good tale without a few trolls! #Tolkien
*sigh* Xbone, here I come… some day. Maybe I’ll get lucky & win a free Xbone from that Game of Life thing the grocery store I’ve been going to for the last few months is doing. We are 1 sticky away from winning it, too! If I can win it for free now, I won’t have to wait til it’s cheap some 10 years from now. Then I’ll just have to buy Rare Replay & boom! Childhood during the N64 playing awesome Rare titles, here I come!
I knew it wasn’t going to anyways. Lol.
