The Splatoon version 2.6.0 update is finally destined to go live this evening. However, users should be aware that the servers will undergo maintenance from 4:50 PM – 6:30 PM PT. The update was announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct presentation and you can check out the many changes set to be implemented into the game, below
Version 2.6.0
Stage Adjustments:
- Arowana Mall – [The Arowana Mall Turf War layout will be similar to the layout in Splat Zones, but the grates that connect between the high platforms in each team’s area in the central area will be removed.]
- Moray Towers – Changes to the layout in Turf War to match the layout in Splat Zones.
Matchmaking and Team Assignment Adjustments:
- Until now, team assignments in Ranked Battle were completely random, but some consideration will now be given to equipped weapons when assigning teams.
- Ranked Battle Matchmaking will be changed so that players of the following ranks are not matched together.
- S+ and S
- S and A+
- A- and B+
- B- and C+
- This change may be subject to further adjustment depending on changes to matchmaking times that occur as a result.
Changes to Rank Points:
- During Ranked Battles, when a team plays at a disadvantage due to unavoidable issues such as teammates being disconnected, and then loses, the winning team’s points will be decreased by an amount proportional to the time they benefited from the above conditions.
Gear Ability Adjustments:
- Adjustments have been made to the efficacy of certain Gear Abilities.
Splatfest Changes:
- During Splatfests what was previously the Vibe Meter will now display your Splatfest Power.
- Initial Splatfest Power level depends upon your current Ranked Battle rank.
- Splatfest Power level will change depending on wins or losses during Splatfest Battles.
- The player with the highest Splatfest Power on the winning team will receive a slightly larger boost to their Splatfest Power than their teammates after the match.
- Until now, Splatfest matchmaking favored grouping players with similar play styles. Players will now be more likely to play with those of similar Splatfest Power level.
- The higher a team’s average Splatfest Power level, the more Splatfest Points they will earn after winning.

I wish when losing in ranked it was more forgiving due to how many kills you gave versus how many deaths you had. Losing one match and getting -12 and then winning the next one gaining +8 isn’t a good system they have in place
Seriously? Wow. Talk about imbalanced.
“During Ranked Battles, when a team plays at a disadvantage due to unavoidable issues such as teammates being disconnected, and then loses, the winning team’s points will be decreased by an amount proportional to the time they benefited from the above conditions.”
But THAT’S NOT THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM IS WHEN YOU DC, YOU LOSE 10 POINTS! That’s the problem…whatever your trying to do nintendo, your not seeing the main thing.
I’ve lost 100+ points due to that, it really kept me in B+/A- limbo for a while
same for me you shouldn’t lose points for the server disconnecting you period
Then people would dc on purpose if there going to lose.
Bingo. They did this on Mario Kart too. It’s nothing new. Otherwise, people would disconnect for easy points and the ranking would be moot.
And what about normal turf wars? Matchmaking needs to be like ranked, where you team up with the same skill level… at least divide online into segments of 10’s, where you join a party that only consists of players that are within 10 levels. ( example: Levels 1 through 10 will only be matched, same with 11-20, 21-30 etc.)
I’m so tired of stupid idiot, useless noobs bringing the teams down by acting like a bunch of morons…
like when they keep looking up constantly and shooting aimlessly, or walking like a jackass on their own ink when they can swim in it. Or simply sucking major donkey dink.
The ranked dc problem is probably unfixable to the Splatoon devs because they think that if they opt to have the loosing team not loosing any points due to a DC, it would be abused by a player simply DCing on purpose so they wont lose any points.
Seems weird to me that they opted to punish the winners for something that wasn’t their fault, when they really should have just decreased or completely negated the amount of points lost by the team with the disadvantage.
I can understand punishing players who DC, even though it’s not fair to those don’t do it intentionally. If you didn’t punish it, you’d have people ruining the rankings by disconnecting whenever they’re going to lose.
I also think that this problem could be addressed by making it so that if you win with more players on your team, you win less points, and if you win when you are at the disadvantage, you gain more points than usual. If you lose with the disadvantage, you lose considerably less points than usual. Or halfway through the game the computer drops a huge bomb on the board which covers 25% of the map in the color of the disadvantaged team. Or everyone on the disadvantaged team has the power where they can see the enemy players while standing on their base, or everyone on the disadvantaged team runs faster or hits harder or possibly a combination of these ideas…
However, I find that far more often than actually being short a player and starting the game with only three people happens MUCH less often than playing an entire game and having a teammate who somehow manages to get ZERO points. I have noticed that these people usually die during the match at some point, so they must have stepped off of the starting point, but I guess they never once even pulled the trigger. I feel that that is a much bigger concern, simply because it happens much more. What is the difference between having three players on a team and having a team of 4 with one player that contributes absolutely nothing to your team? I guess the only good side to that equation is that if they are running around not shooting at anything then at least they occupy 2 seconds of the opposing team and help to boost their kill score…
Plus, how hard would it be to have better stats? I’d like to know how many kills I’ve made and how many times I’ve died. On top of a total Kill/Death ratio, what about having that stat added to each gun in our menu? I have killed x amount of times with x gun and have been killed x amount of times by that same gun…I like that each gun shows how much I have inked individually, but what about a total score?
And why can’t I choose the color? Seriously? I think that about 8 times out of 10 when I play one of us is pink.

Loosing points merely sets back people. The ones who really want to exploit the system save scum.
