If you’ve watched the video for the recently announced Nintendo 2DS price cut then you may have noticed that Nintendo debuted a new slogan at the end of the video. It’s a fairly slick animation that tells players that “There’s No Play Like It.” You can check it out in gif format above.
There’s no grammar correct
Thats so disappointing, they should have aid like “play with mii” or “you, me, and Wii” or whats coming NXt”
The last one would work better for the NX rather than a 2DS commercial…
I like the last one, or something along that line.
NX is just the code name lmao
” What will you play NXt ” would’ve been more appropriate
Who the fuck at Nintendo comes up with these stupid fucking ads? Jesus Christ, save these idiots. You made the Wii name and then sold a Wii U. You added “New” to the end of the 3DS name to make it sound different like Mario Bros. Like, you people need to hire someone new and new staff.
Why?
I think it’s charming and clever.
Plus, it’s a “Play” on words.
I don’t think Jesus really cares about Nintendo’s ad problems. ; )
Are you kidding? Jesus is the king of marketing!

Lol. I’m fucking dead. Jesus!!!!!!! In the name of da lord You’re healed!!!!!!!!!
I agree. As a marketing major, this slogan seems pretty bad for a number of reasons…..but a lot of their naming conventions and such have really missed the mark. Nintendo has its ups and downs, who can really say that what they are doing now is bad.
Anyone can say what Nintendo is doing is bad. Case in point: it’s going to be 10 months before we see any real serious game hit shelves. Dudes are planning to sell amiibo until we get a new game or system.
“There’s no play like it.”
I’m okay with this! The outdo chime can be a wee bit better, but it’s good enough.

I’m liking it.
*i’m loving it
Nah, not on McDonald’s level. It’s pretty good, but it could be better. I like it more than “for the players”, though.
That’s perfect. They can encode the games onto hamburgers. Think about it. Beef patties are so much cheaper than blu-ray discs. It’ll work.
I’m going to try shoving raw ground beef into my Wii U when I get home, just to see what happens.
Nintendo, Capcom, and Domino’s should get back together to resurrect the ultimate marketing god…

Yo! Noid used to scare me to death as a child. My dad would play it, and that evil yo noid or whatever at the pizza round would give me legitimate nightmares.
lol i used to think he was funny as a kid, and when this game was introduced i found it fascinating that there were multi colored noids lol
Wasn’t there a Domino’s Pizza shooting attack where some guy claims to be the Noid and kill a bunch of people?
NX namechange to “Nintendo Play” ?
I like the NX, but they have done the development name to permanent name change before. Possible, but NX would be nice if it stayed. I think it is a good slogan as they look differentiate themselves from the rest of the competition and make it so there is a real need for yet another device.
It doesn’t really have a good ring to it like you’d expect. It’s not bad, but it’s far from incredible.
I like Nintendo’s new slogan. I may not pack the punch like “Now you’re playing with power!”, but it’s truly effective. Greatness will soon arrive on March 2017!
It may not pack the punch… *
PUNCH OUT NX CONFIRMED
Greatness Awaits!
Oh wait, wrong console…
greatness awaits…
in tax heaven!!!

Nintendo needs to bring back and focus on the N like they did with N64. Nintendo, Are you in? or Nintendo, Get N and play. There’s a lot they can do with that. Also am i the only one that thinks NX is the 10th hardware line from Nintendo
1. NES
2. Game Boy series
3. Super NES
4. Virtual Boy
5. N64
6. Game Cube
7. DS series
8. Nintendo Wii
9. Nintendo WiiU
10. NX
Will you get N
The slogan is fine. Relax guys.
It’s not bad, but I definately wouldn’t call it one of their better slogans. It’s not as bad as the DS’s “Touching is good.” If that wasn’t the most suggestive video game slogan ever, I don’t know what was.
I personally liked Nintendo’s wii campaign. “A new way to play” and “Wii would like to play”. The wii may not have struck a chord with the core audience, but Nintendo knew exactly what they were going for and the marketing department hit it out of the park. That’s a major reason why they sold so many systems.
They’ll need something better than this to accompany the nx.
I am glad they are back to the red and not the soulless shitty suicidal clinical grey (not me insulting the color that is the actual name of that shade) and I like the meaning behind this because it’s true, but it is way too kiddy sounding.
*gets sick in the pit of my stomach after reading that new slogan* Oh god no… D: I’m now scared for Nintendo & the NX… Damn it! EA with their “if it makes sense” bullshit jinxed the NX, didn’t it?
Either I’m overreacting or I’m the only one that sees this is a nice slogan for another forced gimmicky innovation from Nintendo. :/ “Tired of standard controls? Tired of using buttons for gaming? Then buy a Nintendo console & enjoy a new way to play video games! There’s no play like it! Seriously! There isn’t because no one else is stupid enough to force their gimmick controls on their consumers! Just us.” <.<
The NX’s possible gimmicks are haptic feedback (but apparently the technology for it to work well is really expensive so you an sort of write that off), NX being a hybrid which either means that the handheld component is separate than the console but plays the same games, or the screen controller/handheld simply streams on the go and you control the console remotely. I think the second theory is most likely after hearing so much about cartridges, might take in 3DS backwards compatibility but it doesn’t really need to. The “gimmick” isn’t really going to be much gameplay wise other than portability and having a screen (while not being a brick like the wii U).
What I find incredibly disturbing is that if the NX is a new beginning and the wii U has no audience, so who are they fucking targeting with these decisions? Censorship is still everywhere so I guess there is no third party support or mature games on NX? Marketing is still kind of kiddy too. But kids do not fucking care about nintendo for the most part and they can’t get casuals with the wii again that was striking lightning I doubt they can do it again, so they need gamers and to compete with playstation and xbox whether they want to or not. I hope it is more of a disconnect with NOA then anything else as far as cesnorship but I doubt it. The NX needs to be radically different marketing wise and I am not seeing any lead into that with anything they are doing.
If they do not change at all with marketing or what they do to games that come over here, I at the very least pray to fucking god they get rid of region lock although I am not holding my breath. If they change nothing it means they are completely pulling for JUST the gimmick itself being a selling point along with JUST what nintendo can crank out, who knows maybe both will be enough for it to be a success but I doubt it. It seems like they are just going to be steadfast with how they normally operate but turning it up a few notches.
“What I find incredibly disturbing is that if the NX is a new beginning and the wii U has no audience, so who are they fucking targeting with these decisions?”
I think that, assuming the console is made for gamers and not casuals, we’ll see something similar to the NES. The NES came during a time when the industry was on the decline. Basically Nintendo had to bring people back to gaming. That’s what they’re gonna have to do this time around too.
“The NX needs to be radically different marketing wise and I am not seeing any lead into that with anything they are doing.”
In terms of the marketing, I’m hoping that this slogan is acting as just a general Nintendo slogan and that they’ll come up with a new strategy for the nx promotion. Give it time though. If they do come up with radically different marketing, chances are you aren’t going to see it until the nx is revealed. If the nx is the core gaming console we all want it to be, then it’s going to be radically different than anything they have now and the marketing won’t be a gradual change since they currently have no products out or coming out that would fit the change. Therefore, changing the marketing strategy now would be pointless. I think it’ll be an overnight change.
As for NoA, I have a feeling that the big boys in Japan are going to leave them be and let them do what they feel is right. If you think about it, Nintendo, being headquartered in Japan, has to assume that the guys at Nintendo of America know more about American culture and therefore know what will sell best in America; just like they would have to assume that Nintendo of Europe knows what’s best for Europe.
I do think that we will have to see exactly what the NX is and it’s branding, and that the slogan is sort of neutral but for me it seems to lean on the kiddy side, I don’t know it’s passable I guess. As for NOA and NOE I completely disagree they have absolutely no clue what the fuck they are doing and are horrible at marketing. Censorship aside they are just horrible at their job in general, if it isn’t a yoshi game with 5 lines of dialog they completely butcher it, after 7 months of waiting for it. I think there is a decent chance they will crack down on NOA at the very least and pay attention to the degenerates they have hired in Seattle, with how horrible NOA is it could only be improved… ..I hope. If the NX comes out with third party open arms, all the M rated games, very neutral/adult marketing, the whole nine yards then awesome I guess the censorship was something they pushed on wii U because they wanted it primarily for kids or something. But I don’t see that happening because making atlus censor one of their last games on their WIi U to absurd amounts is an unbelievably weird precursor to this.
I agree. The slogan is definately on the kiddy side and I don’t think it’ll do for the nx.
As for NoA and NoE, I wasn’t saying that they were doing a good job or that they know what they’re doing. I’m saying that from Kimishima’s and Takeda’s and Miyamoto’s perspective, they probably assume that since NoA is run by Americans, that it would know more about American culture and therefore would be better qualified to make censorship decisions. After all an American would know more about American culture than a Japanese person. So they probably just trust NoA and NoE to make censorship decisions and won’t get in their way.
On a side note, what is a person from Japan called?
By the way, which atlus game are you talking about and what was censored?
their classic button set is clearly part of the slogan though. Although, i will say, the rectangle that forms around it does give me a smartphone or tablet kind of vibe. hmmmm….
That’s not exactly giving me any hope to the contrary since the Gamepad has that button layout, too. :/
there’s always this…

Come down Maria. Breath gurl! Fucking breath!
I’m good… for now. Must keep my expectations in check til later in the year when they finally give us a ton of NX news. Must not lose hope or get too hopeful. @.@
Sure the Wii had the goat marketing with the “Wii would like to play ” and them knocking on doors and doing their traditional greeting and the two i’s doing it too at the end of all the ads but do you want another Wii? Do you want them to think “blue ocean” and try and cater to casual and nongamers again? I mean if NX becomes the next must-have device then great and I’d love that but its funny to me how gamers complain about the Wii era being so disappointing and it being the start of the downfall of Nintendo but often times when people say what they want or like from Nintendo it revolves around or includes the Wii era…
This slogan seems fine to me. Seems young, suggests innovation and could go after a cheesy family game commercial or after a huge, core AAA game trailer. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how well it works and how long it lasts.
(Btw this new marketing would be sooo much more exciting if we had more solid info on what the “next generation of Nintendo” is gonna look like or even just a date for when new info would be revealed. Right now it’s just new marketing on old hardware and games.)
I don’t think anybody wants another wii, but that’s not being argued here. The point is Nintendo knew what kind of audience they were targeting with the wii, and they shaped their marketing to perfectly to suit their targeted audience.
People want that again. They want marketing that will perfectly suit the NX. As some people said, this slogan sounds a bit kiddy. If the NX turns out to be a great console that will bring back the core gamers, they will need a slogan that highlights that. This slogan will make people think of the wii and wii u era.
Who knows, maybe this is marketing that perfectly suits the NX… That’s the issue here, we’re all analyzing the new marketing with next to no concrete info on NX or what it’s all about, yet we assume this marketing is related to NX. And I as stated in my previous comment I could see this appearing after a commercial for a family game just as easily as I can picture it appearing after a “core”/more “Mature” game trailer. Sounds pretty Nintendo to me, I just think all these marketing shifts should’ve been made after the NX reveal at the very least, so we wouldn’t have this awkward period of associating it with 2DS’ and Wii U.
All that said if this messaging does carry over to NX it shows Nintendo is trying to use their button layout as a part of their imagery/branding which is cool cause at least we know that layout well from this gen. Maybe NX input is somewhat similar.
Also I wonder if they’ll swap out the word Play at all in other ads. That might be too PlayStation though.
The slogan is fucking stupid. Like they didn’t even try.
– “What about YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED IT BEFORE”
– “Good! But we can’t copyright that because it’s standard English. Can you change it a bit?”
– “THERE’S NO PLAY LIKE IT”
– “That’s genious! And it only took us 30 seconds. Let’s go eat some sushi”
– “THERE’S NO SUSHI LIKE IT”
– “You got it.”
The aggressive, edgy slogans they made in the 90’s got them in trouble a few times. The American ones at least.
lol which ones are you referring to?
One that comes to mind is a tattoo of “Play it Loud”, when kids were the target audience. I also remember reading about NoC advertising “N” as an addictive drug that casues “Too much fun”.
Get N or get out
Touching is Good
Whilst thou get the girl, or play like one.
Who ever was in charge of those 90’s advert campaigns back then was crazy.
I am seriously having visions of Mcdonalds when I see this. Maybe the movement, or the cheesy tagline? I hope that is just for the 2DS.
I think they need to think about this some more. I LOVED “Get N or get out” because it was just, just perfect. To me anyway.
Well, it’s not great, but it’s not awful either.
Also, am I the only one who thinks this might be a reference to Nintendo’s earliest days as a Hanafuda card maker with the 4 buttons appearing as though they’re on a card?
“There’s No Play Like It”?
Makes as little sense as “Play It Loud” did.
“Get N Or Get Out” made the most sense.
lol are you kidding its GANGSTER AS FUCK
to the point its NINTENDO
I miss slogans like “Get N or get OUT!” And “Now you’re playing with POWER!”.
“There’s no play like it” is okay i guess… it’s just rather tame and not very in your face…
I prefer in your face slogans.
