Zelda: Breath of the Wild Allows Link To Freely Jump, Climb Trees & Rock Faces

Nintendo has revealed that Link will be able to jump freely for the first time ever in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Among the many changes to the series over the years, one feature has remained the same; Link has never been able to freely jump. But in the new title for Wii U and NX, Link won’t just have the ability to jump, he’ll also be able to scale rock faces, climb trees and chop them down too.

In a similar fashion to how characters in Monster Hunter are able to scale rocks and walls, we also saw a snippet in the new trailer that he’d be able to cook food, as well as clothe himself in different shirts and trousers. Breath of the Wild will recreate a much bigger sense of survival and exploration than any other previous Zelda game.

  1. I see what they are trying to do now, it’s like a reimagining of the original Zelda

    I am really digging that, but I hope they also integrate modern Zelda elements and don’t make the world feel too alone like in Shadow of the Colossus. I hope there’s towns and villages you can visit

    1. If this is after Skyward Sword like I hope it is, I don’t expect too many towns & villages. If anything, we’ll come across settlements across the land so the world sticks to the theme of the title: breathe of the wild. After all, before we built cities in America, we built settlements and villages instead of cities & towns.

  2. Let me just start by saying, I’m scared….. I know it’s early in the game, but:

    -There are NO Rupees! The iconic currency of the LOZ series.
    -The hearts seem to be replaced by replenishable foodstuff.
    -Where are the hub towns (Hyrule Castle Town, Clock Town, Windfall Village, Skyloft), much less the markets/bazaar?
    -Where are the other NPCs and side-quests (the fun stuff)?
    -Are all your weapons and equip items just perishable throwaways. Do you get ANY permanent weapons (aside from the Master Sword, because discarding that is crossing the line)?

    For a game like this to be so drastically different from past titles, someone must’ve took all those flash animation parodies online that mocked all these concepts (Link’s infinite inventory, the value of rupees, Ittle Dew’s take on how hearts work, “pointless” NPCs, and “pointless” sidequests) as serious criticism, and removed everything.

    1. You will be able to get rupees by selling items, rather than just finding them in patches of grass.

      Consuming food and potions to replenish hearts actually does make more sense than finding hearts.

      I’m kind of worried about towns too. I haven’t heard any news about them.

      I’m sure there are NPCs and side quests. Remember, the demo that’s being shown only contains 1% of the entire world.

      Weapons and gear will be upgradable, but it seems like you’re going to have to maintain/ repair the weapons and armor you find if you want to keep them. I hope the Master Sword will be the exception to this mechanic.

  3. I’ve always wanted to be able to make Link jump at will. I know some Zelda traditionalists will hate all of these drastic changes but I’ve honestly been wanting some of these for awhile now.

    1. As long as it still feels like Zelda which the trailer gave me a feeling of the Zelda vibe, bring them on!
