Another prominent industry member has expressed praise toward Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s next system could be a “game-changer” that expands gaming’s core audience, according to GameStop CEO Paul Raines. Speaking during an earnings briefing today, the executive revealed that he’s played the Switch before and had a good feeling from it. His recent comment on the upcoming console is as follows:
“The Nintendo Switch, which I played at Nintendo a few weeks ago–we believe could be another game-changer that will expand the audience for gaming.”

I feel like this might be nintendos main console. like how the PlayStation upgrades every 5 years, nintendo will upgrade it every 5 years
If it’s $250, I feel like there would be a new model every 3 years.
im not talking about a new model (though that could be possible because what nintendo likes to do with their handheld when they get old (New 3ds and dsi) but what im talking about is a ps3 to ps4 jump every 5 years. It plays new games not possible withe original switch with better graphics, (more battery life, new design, smaller/bigger screen)
Nintendo was doing the 4-6 year upgrade thing before Sony was ven on the scene, though, and continued it for most of their consoles.

I’m honestly a bit confused how it will be a game changer. Unless it had surprising power. The “on the go” aspect Is a bit underwhelming and almost doesn’t seem practical. The majority of enjoyable gaming is likely done in your house in front of a large screen… Dont get me wrong, I will buy it, I just wonder.
If it will run desktop games, even not on ultra settings, plus good 3 party support and easy to port factor – it will change everything. But not in one day. Like apple is stil worshiped by its fans though most chinese phones could do better.

I still can’t believe Nintendo freaked over that. Any other company would have let it go since it’s just a couple hundred bucks compared to the thousands they make every day. Now if he had made a fake Pokemon game, made it as unfriendly to kids as possible, sold it as a family friendly game, & caused millions of idiots to blame Nintendo and not buy any other Pokemon games for their children, then I could understand suing the bastard. I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about the Switch. Both from fans who watched the trailer, and insiders. It’s looking very positive for the Switch. I’m already more interested in the Switch than I ever was with the Wii U.
Could’ve. No, it should, but I think higher chance the “Wii U portable” is more of a “would’ve”, aka like Wii U, we have a laundry list of if, ands or buts. On paper, Switch is great, but we still don’t the details, and what we do know, many things point to “same old nintendo”.
I mean Switch has just as many “1 little things it can do to make it a bust”, than Wii U had. Like an all in 1 Nintendo device sounds better than segregated 3DS to my non-existent Wii U I never got. But if I don’t think PS4’s exclusives that aren’t on PC, aren’t good enough to get a PS4, then what can Switch do to make me want it in 2017. Breath of the Wild is the 1 reason I hyped for it, and now its delayed, definitely gonna wait til Switch has the catalog, or at least BotW.
I don’t want to buy a bunch of games I already own, and I bet a lot of Wii U owners don’t want to buy a bunch of games they already basically own.
Well, can’t agree with some of what you said, saying that because I do own a wii u and I have several games to it already…fact is, they have been known to shut off services like online to the games that have it. For me, yeah I have to rebuy the games again…sad news but effective. Don’t know about you, but I find it more fun online then by yourself so of course I’ll rebuy it just to keep up in the times. Call me a puppet for that reason, its the games I truly care for besides nintendo’s success. That can be a double edged blade.
They haven’t cut off the Internet services on the Wii/DS. It was a third party company that owned the servers, and that company was bought by another one that didn’t want to keep the servers online anymore. We have yet to see how they will handle the Wii U’s/3DS’s servers.

Gamespy, the owner of Wii/DS servers shut them down. It was baught by another company that made this decision. Nintendo did not want to put money into how much they asked to keep it going on.

Seriously, though, I’m very excited about this platform. I’ll likely wait until the 2017 holidays to pick mine up, but it’ll be nice to try it before then.
