BioWare Says Mass Effect Andromeda Isn’t Coming To Nintendo Switch For Now, But It’s Possible In The Future

Michael Gamble, a Producer at BioWare, recently commented about the possibility of Mass Effect Andromeda coming to the Nintendo Switch. His answer was blunt, but he also suggests that it could still happen in the future, depending on how significant the fan demand is. He said that “yeah, not right now, no. We’re not planning on it. If the Switch launches and everyone’s just yammering for Mass Effect, who knows. We never want to close doors like that”.

  1. I don’t know, remember what happened last time a developer made a game for a bunch of platforms, released the Wii U version months after every other platform, and then got upset when it didn’t sell?

That dev was Ubisoft, and that game was Watch_Dogs. What if this essentially becomes a repeat of that?

    1. Exactly what i was thinking. That’s the problem with this Devs, they want “support”, and they don’t understand that the Support it’s something you need to EARN from the fans, and the only way is taking RISK’s.
If you plan to release a game 6-12months old in another system your stupid. They only way you’ll grab support is to release this Andromeda shit in the same week as other versions. That’s all Ubisoft, EA’s, etc needs to do to gain confidence, earn respect and “support”.

      1. Or considerably cheaper, 6 months later the game will cost about 20 to 30$, if they try to sell port for 60$ on the side of those, they’re gonna have a bad time. Even Nintendo should realize that is bad juju.
Common consumers would only see that games costs more on their system.

      2. Well my first thought in a situation like this will be. “Hey i have a ps4 and i have this game already, hmm… what if i expend those $50-60 in a new game i Don’t have in my PS4 system, well… please Sir give a COD Modern Warfare 10”.

I just hope this time, they don’t Wait to see if the console sell well, it’s the most stupid decision, if you don’t support at the beggining the console will be only a 1st party games console. I know this is their job but if Devs have a truly gamer heart they’ll understand that they need to help roll the ball.
        (sorry my grammar)

      3. Ridley 4 Smash Switch X3 (Dragon Ball Super & the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z Kai both air 1/7/17 on ! Yay!) says:

There is one way to help a game sell better on another system after it’s been out on others for a couple of months or even years: add something to that late port that the other versions on other systems DON’T have and market the HELL out of that new feature! If Ubisoft had kept their word & released Watch Dogs on Wii U with exclusive Gamepad features, and not as just something to have a quick look at the world’s map, it might have sold better than it did.

Hell! If Mass Effect had been released as a trilogy set on Wii U BEFORE other consoles had the Mass Effect Trilogy, the game definitely would have done a lot better. Who knows. Maybe the Wii U wouldn’t have ended up as it did if every launch title came with unique Gamepad features, an extended story, more playable characters, etc. The only games I can think of that released on Wii U it’s first 3 months with any of those things was Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper with new characters and a longer story and Assassin’s Creed 3 with it’s usage of the Gamepad for being able to quickly change weapons. Oh & even Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge had something other versions didn’t have: uncensored blood & gore!

  2. I feel like this is the Wii U, Wii, and even the Gamecube all over again. Third party devs won’t make games for system because system is known primarily for first party games. System is known primarily for first party games because third parties won’t develop for it. Nintendo needs to try aggressively to break this cycle.

  3. Release all games or none. Don’t even bother to bring a single Mass Effect game to the Switch and then complain that it didn’t sell!

    1. Source article say no plans for project Scorpio too. You never know in these situations. It’s not up to Bioware but up to EA to make the decision. Interviewers need to ask these questions to the publisher. Only if the developer is also publishing the game they can give an answer.

      1. I can see why you said that, but Mass Effect is amazing in gameplay, story and graphics.

I didn’t know the new one was a reboot, but if you played ME3, you’d see they did kinda paint themselves into a corner, what with the end of the universe and all. XD

I don’t mind thinks skipping switch, I’ll just pick it up on my 3rd party console.

  4. It begins…can’t wait to hear more excuses from third parties as to why they won’t even give the switch a chance with third party support. Bethesda’s games (and other third parties’ games) better sell like hotcakes (if the switch is even getting them at all) otherwise these clowns will continue making up excuses as to why it’s just too much to develop for the switch.

      1. You can buy ME3U for $20 New. It will catch you up on the entire series with an interactive comic book and you’ll experience an amazing RPG shooter. Think what you will of EA, but you guys really are missing out on an amazing game.

      2. That was not the point.
The point was, that if Skyrim releases considerably more expensive than the current price of other console versions (definitive, or what ever they are calling it), it will be marketing suicide.
“ME3U” launched 60$ new, had really no incentive to it, had Trilogy edition on other platforms for same price, and the same game ME3, was around 20$ on other platforms.
        Catching the drift now?

And btw, I’ve played through whole trilogy, loved the first one for its story, that department got weaker on every iteration, though gameplay mechanics got a tad better. And no, not that excited about andromeda, and I can pick that up when its around 20$.
I have been “missing out” on amazing games since 2009, but that’s what happens when you’re full time employed family guy, so that argument doesn’t really mean shit to me when my backlog is atrocious

  5. Well, they will BE retarded enough to port it for the console year later, call it a “special edition” which means directors cut but not in the traditional sense of added content but cut content, replaced with a digital comic. And ask 60 squids for that shit, while vigorously selling it on other platforms for 20$. And then cry that ME on the go just doesn’t sell…

Well, what ever the outcome is, I do not pay full price for EA shit on any platform.

  6. i would like to see the game on switch but they do have to wait to see if the switch sells or not before making the plunge, mass effect 3 on wii u was not a bad port but it did sold poorly and i do not regret buying the game though i did pay $15 (about) for a used copy.

  7. One thing I’m really hoping for is if you bought a game on the Wii U (SSB, MK8, Splatoon), you’re easily able to transfer your data over and/or get a discounted price on the switch version…thoughts?
