Nintendo has updated the superb Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. While updates are common place for video games nowadays this particular update removes an offensive gesture from one of Inkling Girl’s animations. The gesture was the “Up Yours” sign, which presumably Nintendo wasn’t aware was a thing over here in Europe. Here’s the rest of the patch notes for the popular karting title.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Update Removes Offensive Gesture

Lol Honestly didnt know that was a thing. Pretty funny it slipped though. Didnt the word spaz or something slip over too in the earler mario parties on N64?
I think it was the word “spastic” appearing in Mario Party 8. There was also “shag” in Super Paper Mario. Apparently those are bad words in Europe.
Not sure about “spastic”, but “shag” is just British for “fucking” (as in, the act of sex). At least according to my British media, not British myself.
Interestingly, I found this person, a Japanese player, on Mario Maker who made some of the best, most insanely hard yet short levels and I got way into his levels (he had a lot on there) and when I finally would beat them, especially the most difficult ones, I started always saying “Up Yours” in a bunch of different ways because I figured two things… 1. That phrase might not be known as an insult in Japan, and 2. I could say it without any repercussions from Nintendo… Whether drawing it or coming up with some silly joke or phrase, it was “Up Yours” for days… but Mario Maker lost its luster for this adult, but that user had the best levels hands down. Almost makes me want to pick the game back up, but… Zelda
Speaking of Mario Maker and Zelda, you should check out Runiya. It’s what Zelda Maker has become. It’s still in alpha, but fun and easy to use.
Oh my god!! I’m literally dying of laughter. I love these videos!
I used to think this was another way of saying F*** You. Ever since I saw Sylvester Stallone do it in the movie, Rhinestone. Not sure why they act as if this was only a thing in Europe though. Man, it’s times like this that makes me hate updates. I want the one where she’s doing that. Nintendo censors FAR too much. Probably why I grew an appreciation for the Playstation.
A character making an offensive gesture like this would make the ESRB mad if they found out, and this is a game directed towards a younger audience, whether you like it or not. Of course they had to patch it out.
And people saying MK8 is not only for kids….:(
I thought it was for Bowser Jr. slapping his ass.
lol

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM….
They are of course different, even if at that moment they look the same.
the woman on the poster is not doing the same gesture
She is getting her sleeves back while the Inkling is directly giving an “up yours” genture

it means “I can do it” or “I did it” in japan
I disagree. When giving the up yours, both fists should be closed. Her fingers are wraped around her bicep. It doesnt look like up yours to me.
Good thing Censorship Gaming covered this.
Meanwhile, I’m glad a certain bloke under the name of “Weaboo Destroyer” is finally going to get banned soon. He was utterly obnoxious on that channel.
i know that guy. how you know he’s being banned?
Wait. The up yours gesture is offensive? *bursts out laughing* Oh my god! Some people really DO get offended by every little thing! xD
Honestly, I’d rather a kid do that gesture then scream out “FUCK YOU!!!” at the top of their lungs. lol
