British Billionaire Buys 25% Stake In GAME As Retailer Struggles

The British billionaire Mike Ashley has bought a 25% stake in Game Digital, the parent company of UK retailer GAME. With the increasing popularity of digital downloads, GAME has been struggling to maintain its position in the market. This has forced GAME to begin “significant efforts to reduce fixed and variable costs across the group’s UK retail footprint”. However, Ashley’s investment is certainly positive for the retailer. Ashley has also recently bought substantial stakes in Debenhams, French Connection and Findel. Do you still shop at GAME? Tell us below.

  1. Mike Ashley, certainly up there as the most hated British businessman. Won’t do any favours for GAME from a PR perspective! (and honestly think the days of dedicated high street game shops are coming to an end at any rate)

    1. Most have been around the same time as for Sweden then. I guess the Scandinavian market is not big enough for both Gamestop and GAME, Don’t know the situation in Danmark however. Not that i buy any games in stores overall and if i want a physical copy it’s easy to just order it online istead from 1 of the 10+ stores that sell games online.

      1. I’m not going to Gamestop either. Too expensive amd the service is weird and not quite knowledgeable. Used to shop at GAME for their retro games, but other than that nothing much.

    2. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||We drove them out about 3-4 years ago ourselves, we don’t tolerate idiotic expensive prices…||

Shhhhh, we’re not supposed to talk about the overall market for AAA gaming diminishing. Let’s call it a downloads problem.
