Nintendo has just announced its plans for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con that runs from July 20 through July 23. Not only will Super Mario Odyssey be playable at Nintendo’s booth, but the San Diego ballroom of the Marriott Marquis & Marina will become a “Nintendo paradise”. Those in attendance will get to try out games such as Splatoon 2 and Pokken Tournament DX and, for the first time in North America, Flip Wars. There will also be chances to try out the New Nintendo 2DS XL before its launch and even see the Super NES Classic Edition in person, though it sounds as if it won’t be playable.
Considering the fact that San Diego Comic-Con is taking place during the launch of Splatoon 2 on July 21, there will be themed events and activities inspired by the upcoming title. A Splatoon 2 themed photo booth will be available with replicas of the game’s weapons, and two Splatoon 2 cosplayers, Heidi O’Ferrall and Leo Camacho, will show up at certain times to celebrate with fans and pose for photos. Not only that, the first 20 fans to show up at the photo booth in Splatoon costumes will be treated to “game-themed gifts.”
In addition, the Play Nintendo Challenge will be hosted at the Marriott hotel as well which will allow fans to compete for glory. There will be multiple chances to participate and the challenges begin with an eight-player Turf War match in Splatoon 2. The winning team of four will then battle it out in ARMS, and the champion will finally be crowned with a one-on-one battle in Pokken Tournament DX. Entrance is open to all, but is on a first-come, first-served basis. This Play Nintendo Challenge will be open from 10am-7pm PT on July 20 and 21, and 10am-5pm on July 23.
