The official Pokemon GO blog has informed users of the popular augmented reality application that they will soon be dropping support for Apple devices not capable of upgrading to iOS 11, such as iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models. They have explained their decision below.
In an upcoming update to Pokémon GO, we will end support for Apple devices not capable of upgrading to iOS 11, such as iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models. This change is a result of improvements to Pokémon GO that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices. This change will take effect on 02/28/2018. After that date, Trainers using affected devices may no longer be able to access their Pokémon GO accounts from that device, or use their PokéCoins or other items in their Bags. They will need to switch to a supported device to continue playing Pokémon GO. You can see the full list of impacted devices and learn more by visiting our Help Center.
Yet another reason to ditch this wasted piece of shit game.
Why? Because they need 64-bit processors to make the game functional with all the new stuff they’re adding? With a little more research, you’d know they’re not pushing iOS 11, they’re pushing iOS 11 capable devices, i.e. iPhone 5S and further.
He won’t listen to anything.
Why do I keep trying lmao
More like leaving the already capable devices in the dust. This app has always been a waste and now this shit is making it worse than it already is. Now the already miniscule fanbase..pfft, whatever is left, is about to shrink once more, closer to Oblivion.
Not a very good decision.
They’ve already said the older model phones will now run slower. And they want £1000 for the latest one and now this as well.
Looks like they’re going backwards, not forward
They don’t want the latest and greatest phones for the game to work. They want a capable phone to support. The iPhone 5 is practically 5 years old at this point. I’m not insinuating that people should be upgrading every year, but you can’t expect a piece of tech from 5 years ago to keep supporting software more than 5 years later, especially at the pace that technology’s moving.
True, but look at the prices.
Still £450 for an iphone6
Yeah I agree. Here in America, you can buy a used iPhone 6 for no more than $200. An iPhone 5S is probably less than that. And a “more capable for price” phone like an Android can be purchased for less. I can’t speak for other countries though.
You can get them cheaper refurbished, but I use iPhones and I had a couple just start doing things like turning off when still 40% battery and screens freezing sometimes.
So I would always get new on contract and then replace every couple years, but then I do use mine at work and it gets subject to dust etc.
For anyone that buys one outright tis expensive.
If that happens to your phone you might wanna get it checked out because your battery might need to be replaced.
Those iPhones were never up to date when they were first released anyway.
Hahahahahahahaha… Sucks.
I wonder why we never hear horror stories anymore about stupid people doing dangerous things while playing Pokemon Go. Did people finally grow some common sense?
People stopped playing the game
On an unrelated but related note , for anyone who might care, Pokemon shuffle on 3ds updated today and adds rewards for caching certain amounts of Pokemon and adds more daily login rewards. Has a trainer level for caching Pokemon . Don’t know if anyone plays but I’ve been playing lately ;)
iOS version still same as of now though.
That’s why I bought a brand new iPhone SE earlier this week
