Dragon Quest Producer Says “[The Series Is] Still Not Where It Needs To Be [In The West]”

Dragon Quest is just one of a number of video gaming franchises that is huge in Japan, however, as we all know, that hasn’t been the case here in the west. While the series is popular with role-playing fans it isn’t on the same scale as something like the Final Fantasy brand. Dragon Quest producer Yuu Miyake has reiterated that and hopes with the release of Dragon Quest XI in September on the PlayStation 4 in the west, this should change. Dragon Quest XI is coming to the Nintendo Switch too at an undisclosed point in time.

“From our point of view, [the series is] still not where it needs to be [in the West],” Miyake says.

    1. Well put! How can the series gain traction if they never release any of the titles? Heck, the last title to get a mainstream release with a big marketing push was DQ9 for the DS and that one did extremely well in the states and even became a fad for a short while…

      1. Marketing wise, I’m sure the games are great! I’m not a fan of them, but love when a good Japanese series or game gets overseas. However I hate it when they do awful marketing, thus killing a series. Or no marketing at all. (Fatal Frame, DQ, First Xenoblade, The whole raindrop collection etc)

  1. How about release it on 3ds square Enix since 3ds does have second largest install base this gen. They talk about wanting to appeal to a wider audience but refused to bring it to 3ds on the west. Square Enix are stupid for doing this
