As the world reacts to the outbreak of Coronavirus, businesses are implementing plans to amend the way their conferences – and in this case – award ceremonies are hosted. The 2020 BAFTA Game Awards will be live-streamed instead of being a red carpet event as many individuals from the gaming industry worldwide would have travelled to the UK to celebrate the awards.
Taken from their official press release, BAFTA Games had the following to say:
Amid growing concerns over the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and the number of nominees due to travel from overseas, we have made the decision to change the format of next month’s BAFTA Games Awards from a red carpet ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London to an online live stream, which will broadcast globally on the same day as scheduled (Thursday 2 April).
Other notable events have also been cancelled due to the outbreak of Covid-19 with E3 being one of the latest.
