Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch will allow users to choose between the remastered soundtrack or the original soundtrack when playing through the excellent JRPG. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch is currently scheduled to launch on 29th May.
But can you switch back and forth at will, or is the choice locked to a save file or something like that?
I’m not sure I’m getting this since I have the 3DS version and am fine with it, but I’m sure they’ll never be able to top the original compositions for An Obstacle in Our Path or Mechonis Field.
Don’t forget “Engage the Enemy.” (The music that plays when Shulk, Dunban, & Reyn face off against Metal Face for the first time at Colony 9 (in case you don’t know the name of the song I’m talking about.)
I absolutely did. I think its remix was used in one of its trailers, actually, and I did like it. Of course I would need to hear the whole tune before I pass fair judgement.
Engage the Enemy is my favorite track from the game followed by Mechonis Field. If I was ever gonna do a video game of my own, I’d love to use remixes of them. I also love the track that plays when you are at the capital of Mechonis’s head. That one would be my 3rd favorite. Oh who am I kidding! I love nearly every night time track, too!
I would make the case that Satorl Marsh has the best night theme. One night before I moved out of the house I grew up in, I went alone to a clearing in a nearby forest preserve that had a pond and a small gazebo/deck on part of the shoreline and played it aloud. The tune, paired with the croaking of the frogs, the chirping of crickets, and occasional fish breaking the pond’s surface, made for quite an evocative experience.
I honestly can’t pick a favorite night time theme. They are all sooo good. If Mechonis Field had been a night time theme, my favorite would have gone to it for sure, though.
Now that I think bout it, I’m pretty sure the Mechonis capital had a night & day time track. *looks it up* Yep! All the night time tracks, Mechonis Field, & Engage the Enemy always hit me and I love it when they do! lol
Oh & Agniratha’s day time theme. In fact, the one who composed the music for Chrono Trigger composed the tracks for Xenoblade Chronicles. Maybe that’s why most of the tracks hit so hard.
Why would the choice be locked to a save file? That makes no sense.
It’s going to be hard to top the original tbh

This game easily has one of the best soundtracks of any piece of media I’ve come across. Not exaggerating one bit.
