Japan: Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel coming to Nintendo Switch

Jump Festa 2021 Online has been taking place this weekend and one new title from the popular Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Konami announced that it is Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel, which is a card-based game. Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel will see players battle various characters which appear in the Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime. More information on Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel will be revealed soon.

Players can Normal Summon any number of monsters from their hand in one turn, as well as draw until at least five cards are in their hand.

  1. I wonder what the chances are of this making it to the west. Currently, neither the Anime, nor the Rush Duel card game have made it here. I kinda feel like Konami don’t care about bringing it to the west and only want to market it to Japanese children.

      1. That’s right, what you’re thinking of are Pendulum monsters, and maybe Link monsters. Those have actually be released for quite a while by now (I think Link monsters are from 2017?). However, Rush Duels are not only a different type of card, but actually an entirely different card game. Konami pretty much said “we give up, let’s start from scratch” and redid the entire card game with simplified, more action-oriented rules. That’s what Rush Duels are (or at least as far as I can tell).

So far, the Rush Duel cards haven’t been released outside of Japan, though even in Japan they’re only being sold since early 2020. I think the anime started airing in April 2020. It’s entirely possible they will still bring these cards to the west later (maybe they already planned on doing that and put their plans on ice due to the pandemic, who knows). However, right now, it kinda just feels like they have no plans of going international with these cards. The international Yu-Gi-Oh! website doesn’t even mention Rush Duels with a single word, so either they will bring it to the west very spontaneously, or they’re keeping them to Japan.

  2. Not a fan of Yugioh Master Duel, Duel Rush seems interesting enough tho. Surprised Master Duel is F2p, not a fan of micro transaction dlc. I liked Link Evolution, unlocking packs from the campaign and purchasing packs with Dp. Not all this pay-2-win stuff. Hate how you need a constant Internet connection even for 1p duels.
