Talk of Nintendo releasing a more powerful Nintendo Switch been rife as of late, with multiple rumours cropping up last year all pointing towards the arrival of the ‘Switch Pro‘ model. Well, according to well-known dataminer, SciresM, the latest firmware update for Switch included details surrounding a ‘Switch Pro’ allegedly code named ‘Aula’. According to the data miner’s findings, the next Nintendo Switch will house the same Mariko SoC chip that’s in the current Switch Lite (Tegra X1+) and now in the improved Nintendo Switch model that has improved battery life. SciresM explains that although the Switch Pro has the same chip, it will operate at higher clock speeds and so being capable of some improved visuals and performance.
Apparently, the firmware also points towards support for the Realtek chip, and if true, this is how Nintendo will achieve 4k resolution, but only while the console is docked according to the report. Display wise, it’s looking like the new model could have an OLED screen meaning playing in handheld will look far superior than what we have now.
It goes without saying that until Nintendo announce anything officially (and we’ll be sure to let you know if and when it does), we have to take any information about a rumoured Switch Pro with a big pinch of salt. Still, it’s an exciting prospect to think about what Nintendo could have up its sleeve for us.
An OLED screen? Are you joking? Have you seen how cost effective the Switch is? It’s why it’s so successful for consumers and especially for Nintendo. This is ludicrous, lmao.

There are mixed opinions about using an OLED screen. While this type of screen gives a much cleaner visual of what you’re seeing it is also more expensive (but imo it has been some years that this type of screen is around and technology over the years tend to reduce the price so more consumers can buy it), can break it easily and in some cases you could get some “death pixels”, what I mean for death pixels is having a sort of black spot on the screen that you can’t remove unless you ask for repair it.
Now i get what you mean. I guess it is more expensive to include it in the new Nintendo Switch pro. So, the OLED screen gives the graphics a better visual and great contrast, and nice depth of field? How interesting to see it on the new pro

To be more specific what OLED screen can do is making the visual better, better colors but most important is having text much more cleaner and readable.

I don’t think OLED screen costs much now. OLED screen is used on TVs, but it was also used for the PSVita back then. So I don’t see why Nintendo shouldn’t use this type of screen that makes everything cleaner.
The fact that Oled burns in. My phone and og vita screens look like shit because of it. The deeper blacks aren’t worth it if the screen only last 5 to 10 years. (My phone only lasted 2).
I have a TV that has two little black spots. The only good thing is those black spots are very small and sometimes I don’t even notice but I understand why you’re upset. You’re not the first person who wrote this.
I’m still wondering what will the pro will be like for Nintendo finances. Even after some rumors been popping out of nowhere for a while now, I still believe that the new Nintendo Switch pro will be a bit something else even so adding a OLED screen might be a good thing. But I’m still concerned that the controllers itself will drift overtime and the problem will continue to the new updated system since Nintendo has not yet identified what cause the drift as of yet.
It’s going to be a while until they improve the durability for the controllers.
I wish they would just make it a home console. Make it powerful and stationary. We already have the OG & Lite. I haven’t used their cloud save much – but if they worked to make that seamless it could be a powerful combination.
You know you are correct. I mean I never used there cloud service much too but, that would be great if they do another home console again with more powerful chip and CPU. I mean, Nintendo Switch is a hybrid system and they wanted to try something new for a change to rethink there mistakes on the Wii U and trying to bring back sales from that era.
I mean, the Wii U has been a completely failure and Nintendo has admitted themselves that it did. I really hope that they will make home consoles again with great stationary system just like you said.
I do believe that the Switch PRO isn’t just an upgraded version of the base Switch. I’m sure Nintendo will add something with the new models and not just a cleaner screen and a better processor.
This will always be an issue. That’s why I prefer classic controllers like the PowerA wired controller over the Joycons. While the Joycons are amazing as a concept the problem of the Drift will always appear even if you don’t play
I’m gonna see how this system goes and see how the controllers go well for the new updated system. Because we all know that the drift issue is going to be the same problem on the new pro and will continue it overtime. I wasn’t planning on getting it myself, I just want to see how the controllers and joy-cons goes well for the new pro.
Any device that used some kind of sensor will have the problem of drift and the only way to repear it, imo, is to send the device to the company who made it so they know how to remove the drift and get it back.
Yeah I know that, but everytime people send in there Joy-Cons to Nintendo that develop it, Drift still a issue to people. No matter how many times you get it repair by Nintendo, the Drift still continues for everyone.
Well I hope it has enough enhanced features to warrant an upgrade for me. My launch switch is kinda beat up so I would consider upgrading to hold me off for another two years.
This puts an end to all those stupid Pro rumors once and for all. It has the same chip, therefore it will just be another revision with some added features maybe. You can expect a performance boost of around 10%, which cannot improve graphics. It can only improve performance a bit (framerate, resolution, loading times, battery life).
Yea it’ll probly receive their famed “new” moniker. Since that term is exotic sounding in japan apparently lol so “new” nintendo switch coming soon.
This sounds kinda suspicious. I’m not a hardware expert, but the firmware having so many details about what exact hardware would be included (especially on what kind of screen) sounds kinda unlikely to me. But who knows, as I said, I’m not a hardware expert and it’s entirely possible that the firmware needs to store that information somewhere in order to interface with the hardware correctly.

It seems they just posted a bunch of speculations based on information they found in the datamine, and someone else was like “hey, this guy said the Switch Pro is going to be 4K”, which everyone else then just picked up and repeated without verifying. Typical news site garbage.
Here I thought why some people getting tired of rumors like these. I guess these people on Tiwtter speculated that the 4K chip will be supported for the new updated version. Looks like this rumor have been solved.
Believe it or not but this often happens because when a new model is in development and, in this case, there is also the base Switch model the devs tend to prepare the firmware for the new model, so they don’t have to fix some annoying stuff like controllers etc.

This is also being discovered by Digital Foundry, I think last year or in 2019, where Nintendo started to bring on the market the Switch Mini and the new Switch with better battery

YES! This is something I wanted for a “PRO” edition of the Switch.
What I like about the Switch Pro is it is too different from the base model, in terms for the chip that handles the graphics part, so this means that even if a new model is going to be out we can still play games on the base Switch model.

probably in the minority, but I would personally be fine buying a “screenless” version of the switch intended only for home use. i am not out handheld gaming anymore, even if I had a switch I wouldn’t wanna risk damaging it during travel. its why I was so excited when the PlayStation TV came out as a cheaper version to play Vita games at home
If Aula truly means “room” then this model might be a dedicated home console without any portability. I’m not complaining.
However, I honestly do not care much about having an OLED screen or 4K. I’d rather have better a better chip for performance and perhaps better battery life.
