Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl devs: “if Slap City played a bit like old Smash games, All-Star Brawl definitely plays like its own thing”

Ever since Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl had been officially announced last week, and fans got to see the game in action, some people have noticed gameplay similarities to Nintendo‘s Super Smash Bros. series. Well, Ludosity, the studio working on Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, talked about the game to Kotaku.

According to Ludosity’s Elias “sinxtanx” Forslind, the team did get inspiration from Smash, but they also got it from the work they did on another Ludosity game, Slap City. They did this to “imbue the release with aspects that would appeal to those familiar with playing those games at every level”. Forslind also said that “if Slap City played a bit like the old Smash games, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl definitely plays like its own thing”.

    1. Yea I don’t get why devs want to set themselves apart from smash bros.
It’s literally the best in this genre, tried and true formula.

Nobody has done better, and they shoot themselves in the foot a lot of the time trying to be different.

    2. Don’t worry. If it doesn’t play like Melee, I’m sure some miserable souls will begin on a mod to make it play like Melee. Project Nick M…. Or Project Mick? Project Nick@M?

      Either way, don’t worry.

  1. Definitely a little less interested now, but I’ll keep an eye on it. I mean, it’s got wavedashing, so it’ll probably still be fun to move around in. And it’s got rollback netcode, so online will actually work (unlike anything Nintendo does).

  2. I wonder if the smash bros source code has ever been leaked.
Can you imagine everyone else making their own version featuring all the characters that nintendo never made a character out of like waluigi.

    1. You should look at Smash Bros Remix. It’s the 64 version but they are adding characters. Last I recall they added Ganondorf, Wario, Bowser, Lucas, Falco, Dark Samus, Young Link, Dr Mario and I think Conker was going to be the latest.
