Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass Wave 2 coming 4th August

Mario kart 8 deluxe dlc

Rev up your engines, because eight more courses are making their way to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game with the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass DLC for the Nintendo Switch system on Aug. 4. Wave 2 features the delightfully sweet Sky-High Sundae course, which makes its first appearance in the Mario Kart series! Plus, you can marvel at the neon lights of New York Minute from the Mario Kart Tour mobile game and careen around a giant pinball machine in the DS Waluigi Pinball course, just to name a few. To see all the Wave 2 courses in action, check out an overview trailer here: https://mariokart8.nintendo.com/booster-course-pass/.

Wave 2 includes the Turnip Cup and the Propeller Cup, with fast and familiar courses appearing from the Mario Kart series across the Super NES, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS, Wii and Mario Kart Tour games. Each course can be played locally or online. Cups are divided as follows:

  • Turnip Cup
    • Tour New York Minute – Zip past towering skyscrapers and enjoy a scenic drive through the park in this Big Apple-inspired course originating from the mobile game Mario Kart Tour.
    • SNES Mario Circuit 3 – Drift your way around tight corners and avoid the Warp Pipes in this classic course that originated in Super Mario Kart on Super NES.
    • N64 Kalimari Desert – This desert race features frequent run-ins with an old-fashioned steam locomotive that crosses the course – be careful not to cause any delays!
    • DS Waluigi Pinball – Launch, bump and weave across this course themed after a giant pinball table, complete with colorful lights and sounds. Just try not to tilt!
  • Propeller Cup
    • Tour Sydney Sprint – Soak up the sunshine as you soar above the bay and cruise around the sights in this course that originated in Mario Kart Tour.
    • GBA Snow Land – Try not to slip and slide on this wintry course from Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Just remember: Cooler heads will prevail.
    • Wii Mushroom Gorge – This course features an underground cavern, deep chasms and giant mushrooms to spring off of – make sure you land safely!
    • Sky-High Sundae – The competition may heat up, but that doesn’t mean you can’t chill out in this sweet race, which is filled with larger-than-life desserts at nearly every turn. Prove you’re number one under the sun(dae) in this debut course!

Wave 2 will join Wave 1, which is already available and features eight courses, including Wii Coconut Mall, N64 Choco Mountain, 3DS Toad Circuit, DS Shroom Ridge and GBA Sky Garden, as well as Ninja Hideaway, Paris Promenade and Tokyo Blur from Mario Kart Tour. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass includes six separate waves, with eight courses each, which will all be released by the end of 2023.

  1. Sky-high sundae is the first original track to make it’s debut as dlc for 8, before it makes it’s debut in tour didn’t think they would do this I’m glad Nintendo took feedback from the complaints of the first wave they look more fitting, no wonder why they took so long to mention really hoping for Singapore Speedway next wave

    1. When they announced the booster course pass, they said it would include courses from previous Mario Kart games + Tour, so it’s not strange you thought it would be just that. I did the same.

Interesting thing to do is to keep an eye out for if Nintendo does a stealth update to the previous wave 1 courses. I’m thinking especially about Toad Circuit and Shroom Ridge, which has received some criticism for their use of colors or bland texturing.

      1. I think they might do graphical update wave 1 also tbh I rather have more tour tracks anyway alot of it courses are so creative and
the alternative routes for tracks really make it fresh

    1. It would be more surprising if they didn’t use Tour’s textures tbh. Personally, I prefer Tour’s textures and aesthetics over 8’s (though 8 is still beautiful) because I prefer my Mario Kart to be more cartoony rather than realistic, but I can’t deny that DLC’s artstyle is at odds with 8’s artstyle.

Perhaps when all of the DLC is released we could consider it to be the next Mario Kart entry. Not quite MK9; more like MK8D+ or something. Thinking of the DLC tracks as their own game kinda makes me appreciate them more.

      1. For me, the realistic textures add to the immersiveness. I’ve always loved seeing the details of the world building in the tracks such as the mario world advertisements, seeing other tracks cameo in races (Double Dash), and seeing the environments full of detail. Neo Bowser City is a great example since you get to see the scale of this map as an actual city brimming with life, instead of just another track. It’s the main reason why I love city tracks so much in racing games.

Tour’s simplified textures just…..ruin that immersive feeling and make the tracks feel lifeless and vacant. Plus, I was an art student so I naturally prefer detail, otherwise it just doesn’t look good to me. Still disappointed, but I’m just happy I get to race on more city tracks from Tour lol.

  2. FINALLY!!

This wave looks even better than the last one, love the stage choices. Did not see GBA Snow Land coming, but here we are.

    1. I’ll never forgive wave 1 for butchering Coconut Mall. Wave 2 doesn’t appear to have made any of those mistakes, so yeah I also think it looks better

  3. Well, I got three tracks I wanted in this wave alone (Waluigi Pinball, Kalamari Desert, and Snow Land), so no complaints there. Very surprised to see a brand-new track when they said the cups would contain tracks from previous Mario Kart entries; I wonder if this means that we will be seeing one all new track in each wave.
